After 4 yrs I am getting ruffly 28 mi to the galon, I get great power 5 spd manual diff intake and pushing abotu 163 hp:) nothing big yet. runs amazingly great after all its been through. I run 3rd gear till almost 90 after a gear ratio change I had done. great for interstate drivin just a fun truck.

Weakness:

tire's dont last so i went to kelly tires the factory tires are poo. looses a lil power going up long inclines but put it in 3rd and away it goes. headlights seem to blow alot prolly just me.?

hey all, I own a nissan frontier xe single cab 2wd and I have put it through the rops the last 4 yrs I have owned it. meaning I have put it on its side in a pond slamed a guard rail and hit head on into a tennesse clay wall. and Only came out with a few dings. I bought my truck in sept 99 and as of now I have 112,345 and some odd 1/10ths on it. and it still runs like the day I drove it off the lot. I keep my oil changed and all belts and plugs and fuelfilter I just changed first time. I love my lil nissan. could use some more room in cab for a stereo but im working on a ported bed for that so no biggy.

Strength:

Styling is cool - until you realize that the paint will come off if you touch anything -- a door ding, a bumper to a wall, etc. The seat area has been fairly functional, although seats could use some better lumbar support. The area behind the seats is wasted space, but see the weaknesses for that information. Climate control, sound system, etc. all convenienently located and easy to use. Foot controlled parking brake took some getting used to, but I like it now.

Weakness:

Paint quality really needs to be improved. Don't even THINK about getting anything larger than a shoe box into the extended cab area in a King Cab. It takes a contortionist of a person, and even small packages are a problem as the seats don't fold forward very far. When driving, retrieving anything from the back seat can be very tough.

I would not buy this truck again, or recommend it to a friend. I was looking for a light truck that would allow me to carry the occasional oversized item for the house, carry a bicycle, etc. Nothing very heavy, or very arduous. Even with an empty bed, gas mileage leaves something to be desired. Base engine is underpowered, especially in hilly terrain. Truck is one year old (almost), has 15,000 miles, and already encountering EGR/throttle issues and electrical problems in rear lights. None of it falls under the warranty, of course. I kept my last three cars to way past the 100,000 mile mark. I'll be lucky to get past the 36,000 mile warranty period with this one.

Strength:

Style Dependability Gas mileage isn't bad (around 22mpg hwy a little less city, and I definitely don't drive in a way that facilitates good gas mileage) Price

Weakness:

The 2.4 liter 4 cylinder is a little slow in accelerating from a dead stop, but I've done plenty of interstate driving and had no problems passing (and unfortunately, I have the speeding tickets to prove it). In addition, I've driven comparable Ford Rangers and the Frontier has more pickup. In the King Cab (Nissan's 2door with extended cab and rear jump seats) it would also be nice if the front seats moved up further so that additional passengers could more easily enter the rear cab.

This is the best truck you can get for the price. Right now I'm on my second time around researching small sized pickups and there is no other competitor that gives you the same value for the price. In fact, it is one of the best vehicles period. What else gives you the functionality, style, features, and dependability of the Frontier for under 20,000? I leased my Black King Cab in 2001, put 40,000 on it and have had zero problems with it. I am now looking into buying a new 2004 model outright. If I had the money, I'd upgrade to the 6 cylinder, but the 2.4 liter 4 is just fine for a poor college student. I've towed small boats, hulled tons of scuba tanks and equipment, helped friends move, and taken it off road with no problems. I sometimes wonder how many people out there who have much larger trucks (like F-150's,250's, etc) really need anything that big? The Frontier seems to do everything that 99.9% of the people out there need.

Nice interior design and good space for a little truck.

Weakness:

build quality Gas mileage lack of power sloppy transmission

Lousy truck. Poor build quality, bad gas mileage, many problems. Don't buy one! I drove this truck for 2 years and had many problems with it. First the rear passenger side leaf springs were defective and the truck would squat to one side with any load at all. The blower motor failed at 30000 miles. The brakes warped, which isn't surprising seeing as how it only has front disk's. The transmission produced terribly sloppy shifts and didn't work well with the supercharged engine. Oh yeah and did I mention 10 mpg if you were on the highway, honestly if your going to buy a little truck aren't you trying to get better gas mileage in trade for reduced capabilities? Anyway I traded it in for a F-350 crew cab with a deisel, this is about the biggest truck on the road and it gets much better feul economy! Go figure. Also the build wuality is vastly superior to the Nissan. Isn't Nissan supposed to have great build quality, that's what I thought and that's why I bought that little truck. What a mistake. I'm trying to help anyone thinking about buying one, if you need a truck, get a real truck instead of the Nissan Frontier, I drove the new Titan and it seems like a much better choice, but I hear mpg are poor iin that truck to, so shop around.

Smooth car like ride, nice controls, decent interior.

Weakness:

Serious reliability problems, mystery fuel injection problems. Under powered, poor gas mileage (again, fuel injection).

I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone. Bought the 4 cylinder, 5 speed, and put 38,000 miles on it the first year, no towing or off-road. The fuel injection was defective, and Nissan wouldn't acknowledge it. I couldn't accellerate from a stop without slipping the clutch and keeping the RPMs above 3500. Naturally, the clutch was replaced 3 times in one year from this abuse. Nissan's solution was to keep replacing clutches (under warranty thankfully). The heater died at 5,000 miles (used maybe 4 times total here in Texas). The front suspension had to be replaced at 20,000 miles. After the 36,000 warranty expired, the transmission gave up at 38,000 miles, and so did I. Bought a Toyota Tacoma Prerunner, and I've put 58,000 miles on it without so much as a hiccup. Ya get what you pay for.

Handles very well in mud. Could use more power, but for a truck this size, I was suprised.

Weakness:

The gas milage is not very good. Also, the mud flaps have to come off to put bigger tires on.

This truck handles very well on road and off. It is four wheel drive, but I hardly ever have to use it and I spend as much time in the mud and off road as I do on the highway. It is also a very good looking truck.

I went by to look at a truck in which I liked & I told them I would be back tomorrow to get the truck get it cleaned up. Dennis said it wouldn't be a problem to get it cleaned when I showed up the next day. I told him I had to be somewhere by 6pm. The next day I show up and the truck is not clean but they started on it. I had to have them quit so I could be at my appointment which I was fifteen minutes late because of the empty promises of it is almost done. Dennis told me to bring it back on Sunday and he would have it cleaned and fill my truck up with gas because I drove off the car lot on fumes. I show up on Sunday Dennis was with a customer so I dealt with Mike (who I had been talking to for a couple of weeks on the internet), Mike sent the truck in back to be cleaned and the guy who was detailing refused to clean it because he was mad that I rushed the detailing on Tuesday and none of the men in new or used sales departments made him clean it. I was not giving my tank of gas. They had the attitude that they did not need to do anything for me because I had already bought the truck. The customer service was terrible, this is just the short story it was worse than this. I do not suggest for any one to buy from them, you will not be treated properly and they will lie to you.

The truck is great, I don't think any one can beat it. I have owned 2 previous nissan automobiles and loved them too.

Everything from the hood emblem to the tailgate latch.

Weakness:

Bags aren't fast enough, but that's not Nissan's fault, just need more air pressure.

Perfect! I am a Mini Trucker, so I have bagged it, slammed it, chopped it up and it still runs like new. In most mini trucks the exhaust, motor mounts, transmission, clutch and underbody go to crap after being lowered or bagged, not the Nissan. No problems and it looks great.
