Strength:

Looks, power (don't let the Dodge commercials fool you. In every test I have seen the Titan out accelerates the entire field), space, handling/ride, towing, stability control, navigation system, off-road capability, bed utility/versatility, about $2,500 less than a similar equipped F-150.

Weakness:

Lack of model availability. They are only making 100,000 Titans this year. They should add a rear view camera to the models equipped with the navigation system. While they are at it why not have a front camera as well to aid in rock hopping.

My guess is that the previous reviewer just bought a competitor to the Titan and is tired of seeing his truck lose to the Titan in every comparison by professional automotive publications. He compares the Titan to larger diesel powered trucks only because they are the only ones that can out tow the Titan (the 9900lb tow rating of the F-150 is only for a 2wd regular cab model which make up a small percentage of sales. The Titan is not offered in regular cab. The crew cab and king cab Titans can tow more than similar F-150s. In fact, the Titan is faster towing 1000lbs than an unloaded F-150.). I just ordered a red crew cab which will be here in about a month. I have taken several test drives and a friend of mine just purchased one (along with reading all those reviews from the professional publications) so I have feel I am making the best choice. After a bit of experience with it I will post another review to give more comments. From what I can tell so far the Titan is the run away best truck in its class.

I have owned trucks from Ford, Chevy, and Dodge. Recently, I have taken extensive test drives of all the Titan's competitors.

Strength:

Torque (7 more than the hemi and more at a lower rpm)(By the way, hp is for show, but torque is for go), ride, looks, warranty (3/30000 plus 5/50000 powertrain standard), towing feature

Weakness:

My radio is fine, but the fit and finish is less that the new f-150, but I think 90% of new cars less that 50000 are probaly below the new f-150, I do not like the fact that their is a knob for the 4x4 engage instead of a great feeling lever ike my previous 1999 F-150 4x4

What a great truck. The power, the ride, the storage, the looks, and the ground clearence are all aspects that reinforce all of the awards that the Titan won this year. I have had a Nissan hardbody. That truck was industructable. It is yet to be seen if the Titan will be the same. I must also give recognition to Mr. Perry at the dealership. He did not have to work hard to sell me on the titan. I had done alot of research and had no brand loyalty. I wanted the best truck for my money. He did work hard at the sales price. I also love the looks I get. I can read their lips. Normally it is "hey, their is that new nissan" or less often "what kind of truck is that?" The true five speed trans takes some getting used to. In 5th at 50-55mph the truck is barley more than idleing, but with so much torque, so early, it is OK. The towing feature and the manual shift feature is great.

I loved my 1999 F-150 supercab 4x4, Interco trxus tires. I will probably never love a truck like I did this truck. It was a better all around truck that the Titan, except for one thing. My 4.6 V8 sucked hard. And the Titan blows away even the new 5.4V8

Model Reviewed: Nissan Titan Se king Cab

Strength:

powerful powertrain, large cabin, big back seat

Weakness:

fit and finish are below average. In a rainstorm or water from a heavy dew, the water from the roof will drain down the windows instead of the windshield and the power window and door controls will get wet when the doors or windows are opened. My Nissan Dealership personnel did not like to disclose quality control weaknesses unless confronted with the facts. The mid grade am/fm/6 disc cd stereo system sounds very low grade. the seat fabric stains very easily. with the air conditioner on and in city driving get about 13 miles a gallon.

After looking for 3 months for a replacement for my tried and true 1997 F150, The Titan was the only vehicle that I found that had bucketseats with armrests like my F150. I liked the floor shifter in the Titan (only the top of the line 2004 F150 had the same setup). Since I purchased this racing machine, I noticed the suspension is tight, the torque under 2500 RPM is great and it is fast off the line. But the FM radio and the 3 watt speakers really suck. There is no depth to the paint. The paint on my 8 year F150 puts it too shame. The chrome on the bumpers look cheap. One day I bought a new lawnmower (still inside the packing box) and placed in the bed of the Titan. When I got home and the bed was scratched like hell. When I show the damage to the Nissan Service dealer at my 1000 mile checkup, he said that I should have purchased a bedliner if was going to haul anything in the back of the Titan. I grabbed my salesman and he played ignorant, then walked away. The backs of the bucket seats are formed that you have to place a small pillow behind your neck to be comfortable (if you are tall).

Model Reviewed: Nissan Titan SE Crew Cab

Strength:

Best value, most truck for the buck, excellent handling, performance and styling. Great Nissan name.

Weakness:

Loud exhaust, doesn't always fit into a parking space!

I can't say enough good things about my new Titan. I just upgraded from a Pathfinder (my third). The Titan is deceptively bigger than it seems at first glance... you can literally throw a party in the back seat! That was the biggest suprise, the roominess. I am 6'3 and I have at least 5" above my head, and actually have to stretch to reach the passenger seat. The engine is very responsive and smooth, and the truck really sticks to roads. My truck had the off-road package, which I thought would make the truck a little less responsive due to an increase in height. However, the truck is very easy to manage, even for my smaller and shorter wife! Finally, a car manufacturer listened to the desires of truck owners and made a factory-sprayed-in liner an option (actually available on nearly every Titan I looked at). Nissan is the first to do this, I believe. The outside storage compartment behind the rear wheel is small yet very practical, another well thought-out idea. The decisiion came down between the F150 and the Titan, and both looked and felt quite similar. However, the Titan boasted more options, smarter styling, and a better track record (in my opinion), and the price for the exact same F150 was $2500 more than the Titan... not a small amount! The Nissan has tons of well thought out details, like locating the front seat fold down lever on the top of the seat instead of the side... easily accessible from the back. Anyway, I am obviously sold on the Nissan with very little complaints. The only thing I'd change is the tuned exhaust... always a soft rumble, even at freeway speeds. On accelleration, it sounds cool, but after 2 hours on the road, I wish it wasn't there. But that's just me. I've always been impressed with Nissan, and the Titan is no exception.

can not get the factory rear axle e-locking differential until May 2004. weak FM stero receiption. tail gate lock sometimes gets stuck. long long wait for replacement parts from factory (tailgate lock).

wow. power and handling: strong passing pwoer and sure footed handling. great highway cruiser and good off-roader. the fastest stock 4wd full size pickup: on road or off road. faster (and cheaper) than any 4wd trucks: Dodge Hemi 5.7L 4wd, GMC 2500HD ExtCab 4wd 6.0L, Ford FX-150 5.4L, Tundra. note: the Titan with either the Off_Road or the Big Tow packages uses a lower final drive ratio that delivers more power, but uses more gas.

Strength:

Power, clearance, too long to spend time typing a list.

Weakness:

The only thing that I really don't like all that much is I can't tell where exactly the front of the truck is while driving....I guess that just comes with getting used to it.

I traded in my 2003 Chevy Z71 in for a Nissan Titan, and I have had no problems with it so far....and it is so much more superior than my Z71, that it isn't even a laughing matter. I bought my Z71 and had problems with it starting at 1400 miles. And after getting BBB involved, etc. They did nothing to try and fix this issues, but offer an additional 60,000 miles warranty. That would be great if I didn't mind spending the majority of my time in the waiting room while they worked on it. I had the drive shaft replaced twice, all the u-joints, the entire throttle body assembly, AC, left window kit, silinoids replaced, bushings, cpu updated, rearview mirror replaced, the temperature sensor for the rearview mirror, throttle body relay, cloth roof interior falling off door jam, and a couple other minor things. But, it all adds up having to take time off of work, etc. I finally decided to go back to Nissan. When I was in high school, I had a 1987 Nissan Hardbody pickup and it ran great! I had 311,000 miles on it before some kid pulled out in front of me and totalled it. I am hoping that I get the same kindof reliability out of this fullsize Nissan. I am a civil engineer, and I go to jobsites often. Four wheel drive in my Titan feels a lot better. Though I don't have my BFGoodrich Mud-terrains on it like my Z71, I have been in some pretty nasty places, and it has had no problems so far. I had a set of 285/75/R16 that I had on my Z71, but the 285/70/R17's BF Rugged Trail's that came with the offroad package...are great so far! They work pretty dog gone well in the situations I have been in so far. Well, I didn't want to write a book, but I am very impressed with Nissan's Titan....they have hit a grand slam in my opinion! I am looking forward to the warranty running out so I can add a 4" lift on it and some larger tires.

2003 Chevy Z71....I have always wanted one since I was in middle school...when I graduated and saved my money and bought one....I had nothing but problems with it. I knew if I bought anything besides Chevy...my grandfather would disown me. But after the problems I had with it....granddaddy understood. I may have just gotten a lemon.
