Toyota Tacoma standard cab
Strength:
Gets pretty good mileage about 22 mpg They are nice looking trucks
Weakness:
Clutch, engine is weak, paint isnt very good, locking hubs are hard to engage Get the 6cyl and auto trans. I purchased this truck new, didnt like the clutch from the start, way too long of a throw. After 2 years it still bothers me.The 4 cyl. is way under powered. Similar Products Used: Only small truck I have had |

Strength:
Durability, reliability, etc. (see above). The basic engines - 4 and 6cyl. are still the best engines in truck history. Terrific ground clearance and visability on the 4X4. Quality control is still first-rate, exterior Tacoma appearence and the basic set-up of displays and controls have improved over the years, assuming you don''t mind the clock location (I don''t - because it has''nt changed in 20 years!). The radio/stereo/CD is decent and acceptable for a truck (and, from past experience, incredibly long-lasting).
Weakness:
You will bounce. These are not yuppie-mobiles, or are they supposed to be. They''re for hard work, going around town shopping, picking up the kids, getting back and forth to your job and not breaking down on the highway. That''s why you buy one, not for a ride into your senility. Buy a GM for that. Other problems seem to be: the clock placement (see above), a nagging airbag/dashboard rattle on some vehicles (4000 rough miles in on mine: no problem), the maddening orange backlight on the otherwise excellent displays. Also, I wish they would upgrade the standard seat coverings back to the 4X2 quality of the early-mid. 90''s. That Toyota makes the best trucks out there is generally acknowledged (there-that will start a fight!), my own experience in over 30 years of buying new autos (including 3 of their trucks now) is that you get what you pay for: rugged, almost unbreakable dependability, quality that holds up for years, lower maintenance costs and time lost (hey, time is money, y''know) when measured over several years, and better-than-average resale. In short, the best truck - Tacoma, Tundra, T-100, my beloved old 4X2; whatever - out there. Similar Products Used: Ford Rangers, Ford F150s. |

toyota tacoma xcab sr5 4x4
Strength:
-great engine -good gas mileage -the best build quality -toyota REALLY stands behind their products. -rock solid
Weakness:
-paint quality could be better. -can''t think of any others. this is a great truck. Previous toyota owner, so I know what to expect, rock solid reliability. I bought this truck new and have driven it extensively. It has over 60k miles, and i''ve only had it in the shop 1 time for a bad seal, under warranty, no problem... I''ve never put on brakes, belt or hoses, etc....Overall, the truck has great power, looks, gas milage, and components. I don''t see how anyone could justify buying another truck in this class, if the tacoma dosn''t fit all of your requirments, then you shouldn''t buy any truck, because the trucks don''t have anything on this one. Toyota Tacoma SR5 V6 4WD X-CAB
Strength:
Engine, brakes, drivetrain
Weakness:
Body, front seats/belt, stereo Through the first 42K miles, all is well. I can tell that hitting anything would be the end of it, though - the body is extremely thin and cheap. The drivetrain and all else are fabulous though. Similar Products Used: 1984 Nissan 2WD KingCab |

None This is my first "new" vehicle and it is great! A day after I bought it I had to go on a road trip to VA, a good 380 miles away. The trip was very smooth and quite comfortable, although I do wish that I would have bought one with cruise control. To my suprise I got really good gas-mileage...about 28 mpg, and that was with a full bed! I would tell anyone looking for a new truck to seriously consider the Toyota Tacoma Similar Products Used: None |

x-cab v-6 trd
Strength:
12 inches of ground clearance - stock. 20 miles to the gallon. 6 year -75000 mile warrenty for $400. out the door price was $22000. v-6 has plenty of juice.
Weakness:
small cab - if you want bigger go tundra This truck is everything a truck should be. With 110 miles on it, I put 1300 lbs. of rock in the bed! It did bottom out a little over bigger bumps, but what the hell it''s 1300 lbs. in a 6 foot bed. 190 horses didn''t even feel the wieght. everything else is A-1. see ya off-road! Ext/cab 4x4
Strength:
Exceptional mechanical reilability, capable 4wd performance, good power, decent gas mileage, and high re-sale values.
Weakness:
Body panels are somewhat thin and easily dented, front tires tend to throw rocks/debris directly into the rear fenders. What can I say...in 207,000 miles of Toyota ownership, absolutely no repairs, breakdowns, or other problems. Standard normal maint is all - fluids, brakes, tires, etc. Still getting a solid 25mpg, 4wheel drive is perfect, and drives like a dream. This makes my second Toyota (I also have a ''97 4Runner) and I am more than pleased with the overall quality and value, even considering the higher upfront purchase costs. Toyota truly makes vehicles that are designed to last. Similar Products Used: 97 4Runner |

Toyota Tacoma 4x4 xtra-cab TRD V6
Strength:
ultimate 4x4 ability, great V6, great looks, large tires, the girls love it
Weakness:
somewhat uncomfortable seats, rough riding at times, auto transmision shifts too much on slight grades I am extremely pleased with this truck. The V6 engine is has great power although it tends to shift quite often on slight uphill grades. I use my truck during the day to tow my lawn equipment and it tows great. I have had this truck off the road quite often also and it is unstoppable. With the puch button locking differential and low range, I don''t think you could get it stuck. Everything is very fit and finish and extremely well built. The nly downside is that the seats tend to get a little uncomfortable an longer trips and the ride seems to be a little rough around town, but what would you expect from a 4x4 of the tacomas ability. The TRD package is well worth the money. This truck is overall a great truck and it looks great also. Similar Products Used: 99 ford ranger(piece of crap compared to the toyota.) |

Strength:
agility and strength of the v6 matched with TRD
Weakness:
It's a bit pricy I admit...and the dealer tried to yank some serious cash out of me but I had my dad and his friend there so the 3 of us took care of it. Also, I can't see street lights when I'm the first car because at 5'10" my head is too high in the cab. I abosolutely love my truck. Ever since I went to college I wanted to get a 4x4 truck, but couldn't afford it. Now that I've graduated I got myself a v6 4x4 w/TRD and as is, this truck will get the job done. I've taken in into some fairly rough off roading and haven't had a problem. Future plans for the truck include super swampers (at least 33"), at least a 4" lift (I'd like to get 6", but having trouble finding out what I can use), and a crawler transfer case (I've always wanted to go on the rubicon in California...look it up if you're not familiar with it...search good for rubicon). my truck http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~mjdunlap. Similar Products Used: Ford ranger and Chevy 2500 (I know it's a 3/4 ton, but still). the ranger is not built for off road at all and doesn't drive as nice either. The chevy would be better off road, but it's not a 4x4. |

tacoma
Strength:
I would say that the performance is the best I have had it for a year and haven't had a problem with it. my 98 fork F-150 was in the shop the first year i got it. But another good quality is the price, it is a great peice for a medium sized truck.
Weakness:
Weak radio. but hey it can be replaced at a cheap price. your main goal in buying it is to get a great truck, right. My rating is so high because it is a great truck. I love the new headlight look than the older ones. I got a 16 valve 4 cylinder but hey it's got some great pick up you gotta give it that much. I bought a black single cab tacoma basic package and i love it. i would go and buy another one. then 2001's are a little to space age looking. I don't like the front grill on them. I like the models 96 up to 2000 because there just awesome looking and one of my buddy's at work owns a 97 toyota tacoma and it's sweet he's got 32 inch tires on it. I like the way my 32 inch tires stick out the sides of the truck it's so sweet. and the body style is tight. Similar Products Used: i would compare it to my old dodge dakota but the tacoma still blows it away by far. |
