Tacoma Double Cab V6 TRD
Strength:
Styling is as per Toyota standards. The introduction of the 4 door was a long time coming (but hallelujah!!). Great power, good finish and ergos.
Weakness:
Somewhat pricey This truck rocks! Looks great in silver and has plenty of room for 4 (perhaps 5). I love the ease of entry for a 3rd person vs. an Extra Cab two door version. They've equipped it with all the perks you'll ever need. I've owned trucks before but this one will be a keeper for a long time! Similar Products Used: 1995 Toyota Xtra Cab 4x4 V6 |

Strong Powerplant, Very nice looking truck, Drive's like a sports car as well as an offroad vehicle, Fully loaded
Weakness:
Clock in the worst place..should be placed where passenger airbag switch is located. Transmission clunks from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 1st. I will never go back to General Motor,Ford, and Chrysler products. I also own a 76 Toyota pick up w/236K miles wich has never given me a problem...replaced one clutch and one alternator from normal wear and tear. Xtra Cab 4X4 step side
Strength:
Engine, roomy comfortable interior (I'm 6'4" 240), gas mileage, styling with step side bed. Looking forward to taking it off road, bet it will do everything my previous Range Rover could do. Love the quiet ride, very little engine noise.
Weakness:
No complaints/problems, though the standard stereo is fairly anemic! Love this truck....have wanted one for years, and after purchasing a 2001 Range Rover 4.6 HSE, keeping it for 1 month during which time the power steering, navigation system, air suspension, and a/c broke (brought it back to the dealer and bought myself out of it...with help from lawyer), I'm glad to have a vehicle that does everything I need it to do and more for 1/3 the cost of the RR. Love the engine/trans (3.4 V6/5 spd), tilt wheel (tilts up nice and high), interior, a/c, getting much better gas mileage that the sticker indicates (23 town/27 hwy). Drove it off the lot and at first stop light got a big smile and thumbs up from stranger in Mitsu Montero. Looks great, runs like stink, and great value! All the mechanicals
Weakness:
come on... are you buying it for the interior, or are you buying it because the truck is going to last forever. This truck is tough!!! It may rattle and have a poor interior, but this truck can not be broken! I live in Colorado where most of the rugged jeep trails are. Let me tell you this... the truck is worth the money. What you need to understand is this... toyota didnt build this truck for comfort, they built this truck to run 350,000 miles without a MAJOR malfunction. Not only does the truck outlast any thing on the road, it can take a SEVERE beating! I take my 2000 V6 extended cab Tacoma through and over terrain that most people say no to. Im not kidding when I say this truck is tough. I laugh at any one who buys a different midsized four wheel drive. Words cant describe what my truck goes through. This truck is less than a year old and I have litterly tried to destroy it. Right now it is in the auto body shop getting cosmetic repair from the last Moab trip. Again, this truck is tough! My father has a 1998 Hummer... my truck is better, and my dad knows it. The toyota Tacoma can take some abuse. What Im talking about is this; the interior, sheet metal, seats and all the other b.s. is just the same as any other truck. What is different is the frame, drive train, ENGINE (bullet proof), and suspension. Do your self a favor and spend the extra money. If you sell it in a couple of years, you will get a better return on your investment. Come out West, every other truck is a toyota Tacoma... do you think this many people are wrong??? Similar Products Used: You are a cheap fool if you buy a Ford. You are almost as bad for buying a Chevy or Dodge product. Nissan will last just as long... but that truck looks stupid. Buy the toyota. |

Tacoma
Strength:
Comfort of the drive - It drives almost like a car.
Weakness:
Clock in awkward place. Very Sturdy and commanding truck on appearance. Has sufficient power to handle what I want it to do - haul an occasional load from Home Depot or move mulch around in my lawn, in addition to just being a normal vehicle I drive to work in or go out around town with. Interior looks good and I'm impressed with the driver's height/view - Not too tall, not too short. I purchased it coming from an S10 and it feels more like a truck should feel. Similar Products Used: Chevy S10 - as compared, the Tacoma feels more like a truck. The ride seems more comfortable and the cab is a better environment. |

Tacoma Double Cab Tacoma SR5/V6 4x4
Strength:
Tight suspension.
Weakness:
As mentioned before, clock is in a bad location. Steering wheel blocks the view. Factory stereo somewhat weak. So far this vehicle has lived up to its reputation of quality and ruggedness. I searched far and wide for a Truck that would perform and last through the years of torture I plan to exert unto it. I test drove all of the competition and, to be honest, the Tacoma proved them all to be inferior. I drove the S-10 and it was too loud and herkey jerkey. The Nissan looked so ridiculous I refused to even consider test driving it! As far as the Ranger goes, I've been there and done that. Never again will I purchase a Ford product. My previous truck was a 1994 Ford Ranger 4X4 and it went through 3 transmissions, 2 Transfer Cases, 1 Exhaust system, and several ergonomic failures of the interior controls. Ford offerd me a $3000 seven year warranty to make up for it. I refused and sold my 1994 Ranger to purchase my Toyota Tacoma. The best choice I have ever made in regards to a vehicle investment. Toyota offered me a 6 year extended warranty for $1500 extra on the purchase price. I accepted and the dealer promised that if I do not have the need use the warranty plan by the end of 6 years, I will be reimbursed the $1500 in full! Too good to be true? You know I went for it! The Tacoma is pure bliss to drive. The controls are easy to operate and efficiently designed. It feels as if you are riding in a far more expensive vehicle than you actually paid for. The ride is smooth and quiet and the seats are contoured to fit even a fat-ass like me! The four wheel drive feels tight and the steering very responsive even in tight turns at high speed. (Not charachteristic of most 4X4 trucks). I bought a Snugtop Shell for it and some Tube Steps to help the Mrs. up and in. If you are teetering on the edge of a decision to buy either a Tacoma or another truck, I would recommend the Tacoma. Toyota's reputation and reliability speaks for itself. The resale value on a Toyota truck far outweighs any of the competition's. You would be foolish to go any other way. Even if you have to spend a few grand more for it, you will be rewarded. Don't take my word for it see for yourself! As you are test driving it aroud town, look at the other drivers expressions as they see you. You will be suprised! Oh, and try not to cause any accidents! :o) Similar Products Used: None |

Weakness:
None Purchasing this truck or almost any Toyota should make sense by this one fact: "anybody I've ever known has repeatedly praised Toyota with their dependability". They also hold their value quite well too. I read some of the other reviews and eithier these people are: 1. just one in a billion toyota owner who had problems 2. A Toyota basher which is just down right criminal 3.(a combination to #2?) they're just mad they didn't buy a Toyota. Anyway, Toyota definitely makes one awesome truck compared to the rest! This can go anywhere and even futher out in the sticks/mud compared to its competitors. I never really had any problems with this truck. I would definitely by another Toyota Tacoma when it comes time again for a new one, which could be quite a while!!! Similar Products Used: Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger, Chevy S10, Dodge Dakota |

Toyota Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 Limited Ed. w/ TRD package (completely loaded)
Strength:
Good solid feel. Strong engine. Sits high for a stock truck. Good suspension (TRD Package). Big tires. Really cold AC for these oven-like temperatures in Northern California. There is a supercharger option readily available. Also, changing the oil is really easy since I didn't have to jack it up. The oil filter is a different story; it is very difficult to replace it and to expect to do it without spilling any oil!
Weakness:
The usual -- clock is in the stupidest place. I guess the engineers that designed the interior were really short, if they could see the clock. It's got so-so gas mileage for a truck. I've been averaging 19.5 miles/gallon, whick is a far cry from my 30 mpg that I was getting with my Mitsu Eclipse. Also, the axle wrap that I mentioned above after coming to a stop, is also a weakness. This could have been resolved with a stiffer rear suspension or more rear leaf springs. Also, my dealer experience wasn't exactly the best either. The sales guy was fine, but the financing guy was a jerk. He didn't seem like he liked his job. In addition, we didn't get the grand tour of the dealership. This was done probably so that we wouldn't come back. I can't believe they tried to see me the truck with a 2K dealer mark up! And no, I didn't have a "screw me" sign on my back! Needless to say, I didn't pay that, and I did get it under MSRP. With everything I wanted. Oh, it didn't come with fog lights, nor the option to add any. I've had my Tacoma about a month and a half. Up till now, I have had no issues whatsoever with my truck. The only thing that could be contrued as a minor glitch with the truck is that the steering wheel is off-center a little bit. It's nothing that a quick trip to the dealership can't fix. This adjustment is under warranty for the the first 12 months or 10k miles. Anyhow, I'm hesitating taking it to the Gilroy Toyota dealership since I have very little confidence in these "certified" mechanics. I'm afraid that they will mis-align my truck and make matters worst. Anyhow, the rest of the truck is running fine. No major issues yet, not that I'm expecting any, but anything can happen. Oh, btw, every so often, when I come to a stop, the rear axle seems to slip after coming to a stop and releasing the brake. It's nothing to worry about and it doesn't happen all the time, but it is annoying just the same. Similar Products Used: I used to have a Ford Ranger. Needless to say, I don't have the Ranger anymore, and I don't think I want to get another Ford Ranger ever again. |
