Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

Available in Regular cab, Double Cab and CrewMax styles, the Tundra also features three bed lengths, three engines, three wheelbases and a choice of 4X2 or 4X4 configurations.

The Tundra offers three engines and three cab sizes. Handling is relatively responsive, but the ride with the TRD package is stiff. The 5.7-liter V8 is very powerful. The tailgate is easy to raise and lower. A new 4.6-liter V8 replaced the old 4.7-liter for 2010.

This truck is garbage. I traded my 93 F-150 on it. BIG MISTAKE! This truck has no power no payload no towing capabilatys and is horrible off road. The paint is real easy to scratch and the frame is as thin as the one on my brothers 89 Nissan.

Strength:

ride, quietness, steering, towing ability, reliability.

Weakness:

Maybe initial gas mileage? Really none as yet. I have not gotten that first repair bill or found out how hard it will be to get parts so my opinions may change but so far so good.

Bought the truck as a demo, it has been a great truck. I have no problems to date with the exception of a outside mirror that split with the cold in the first winter. Fixed with no problems by dealer. I got a recall notice for a towing wiring harness but I did not have a Toyota wiring harness installed so I was not concerned. No brake problems as yet and I am approaching 25K miles and my truck gets alot of highway but some stop and start. Mileage seems to just get better and better the more I drive it, at first it was poor but its getting pretty good.

Strength:

Unusually quiet, for a pickup. Rides much better than most pickups, on both smooth and rough roads.

Weakness:

Gasoline mileage. Excessive stickers on sun visors. Dumb choice of second language on those stickers. Cruise control light not subject to dash light dimmer control. Transmission roughness at initial accelleration.

Other than the poor gas mileage and a few small things, I''m mostly pleased with this 2002 V6 Tundra SR5 extended cab model. However, I have less than 5K miles on it at this time and that''s not enough to have a refined opinion about the vehicle. I drive "conservatively" yet get less than 15 mpg in town and about 19 on the highways, where the speed varies between 65 and 75 mph on good roads. Here in Phoenix we have no choice but to use "oxygenated" fuels during winters, and I agree that that reduces mileage a little, but certainly not 20%, as the dealer claims. There often is a disturbing roughness when accellerating from a stop, such as is necessary when trying to merge into traffic on a busy street. The problem disappears as soon as accelleration drops. The dealer says "they all do that", and I consider that answer to be very unsatisfactory. And the awful sunvisor stickers! SIX of them on the two visors, in English and French. One in French only! (In the US, I''d expect maybe to see the second language be Spanish, but never French.) The stickers cannot safely be removed without defacing the visor covering material. On the current 2002 Tundra, no mechanical problems so far, but as said earlier I still have less than 5K miles on it. I''ve seen other reviews mentioning brake problems of the Tundra''s. On my 1995 T-100, the Toyota dealer changed the disk brake pads twice during the first 20K miles, and none of those Toyota pads worked well after a short while. Finally, I bought some US-made pads (Raybestos, I think they were), and installed them myself, then all the brake problems went away. So, what''s the bottom line as I see it? Well, for the purposes I had in mind in buying this truck, I believe the Tundra is the best of the currently available alternatives. It isn''t even close to perfect, but it''s it is very worthy in comparison to Ford, GM, and Dodge.

Strength:

Strong, quiet motor, quiet, smooth ride. Good looks. You can get oil change and tire rotation at dealer for <$25.

Weakness:

Replaced all 4 brakes at 15K under warranty. Can''t keep the Michelins balanced. Seats need lombar support. Look out for 30K maintenance! - $250+. The owners manual makes you think there is not much maintenance but just to replace the plugs is almost $100. btw they are NOT 120K plugs like the owners manual would like you to believe. Wind noise is a bit loud at 70+mph. The thing is governed at 105mph though it has plenty of power left.

Great Truck overall. Quiet, Strong, lots of looks. I drive over 100 miles/day. The captiains seats is adquate but could use lombar support. Streering wheel should be leather. Wanted a standard but had to settle for automatic in access cab. Good torgue. No trouble pulling two large seadoos out of the worst launches. Towed them from Mobile to Key West at 75 MPH av. No problems and the mileage only droped to 14 mpg.

Power, comfort, equipped the way I wanted it... available on the dealer''s lot.

Weakness:

none.

I love this truck. I''ve owned Ford and Chevy, never thought I''d buy a Toyota. This one was the best value when I was shopping, and the test drive blew away the Ford and Chevy. Not to mention the selection at the dealerships. The truck handles like a car and is loaded with POWER! It does a great job towing my boat.

Strength:

Ride Comfort V8 Sharp looking truck

Weakness:

The brakes are terrible. Rotors have been replaced and turned once with only 25K on the odometer. Toyota needs to step up to the plate on this and come out with a "real" solution.

Overall this has been a great truck. The V8 power is great and the ride is awesome for a truck. Pulled a car trailer over the summer and it ran like a champ

Strength:

Power, Performance both on and off road, ride and omfort.

Weakness:

The only weakness I have experienced is with the front brake system. Excessive wear.

This truck is every thing a full size truck should be. with one GREAT exception - wear on front rotors and pads. I have 23,600 miles on my truck and am on 3rd set of front rotors close to getting 4th set. I am already on 4th set of front pads. I have heard there is a wide spread problem with the front rotors and pads. Anyone else having trouble with the front brake wear?
