Strength:
Great acceleration. Delivers a good smooth ride on a fairly good road surface. Great looks. Nice interior.
Weakness:
Horrible body shake on bumps. Minor problems are starting to develope. The brakes have a terrible shake (due to warped rotors) every time you apply the brakes it shakes everything. Cramped back seat and O.K. front seats. Don''t plan on great hauling characteristics. Also the transmission sounds like it has 200,000 miles on it. When giving acceleration there is a hard clunck. Great looking truck. Powerful engine with great acceleration. O.K. sound system. Brakes are horrible due to vibration. Similar Products Used: 01 Landcruiser, 96 Dodge |

Strength:
(1) Solid yet smooth ride. (2) No lag time from "foot to pavement" (3) Captain seating is very comfortable (4) LOOKS MARVELOUS!
Weakness:
(1) Paint scratches easily (2) I can''t see the clock without slumping in my seat (3) The horn is whimpy (I noticed someone else thought so, too (4) Of course - the back seat is the smallest of the 4 makes. Took 6 months to evaluate what I wanted in a truck and how the 4 (GM, Ford, Dodge & Toyota) met the criteria. I chose the Tundra Access Cab for: 1) Toyota reputation and perceived ability to deliver on a long life for the vehicle. (2) Appearance (3) Comfort of ride (4) Power. I expect this truck will last me a long time, while looking good and maintaining a smooth, solid ride. The truck so far has met my expectations. It has plenty of power from the 245 hp V8. The ride is second only to a Chevy Avalanche (my wife said that truck/SUV was too ugly to look at). The gas milage is on par with all the others. I get 15 mpg around town & 18 hwy. I drive fairly conservatively: 0-5 mph above the posted speed and average acceleration from a stop. I have not loaded it down with any substantail weight, so I can''t comment on handling under that condition. I am extremely pleased with the truck and with Quality Toyota (for those in NW FL or S AL I recommend these guys). Similar Products Used: GMC Sierra, Ford |

Strength:
great truck otherwise like the power and the front room
Weakness:
limited rear room, poor handling with a full load in the bed i purchased this vehicle after looking at the the tacoma access cab 4 door and felt for the little extra the tundra offered more room and the v8. Ive had no problems with the vehicle except with the poor quality paint. I have heard 3rd hand that the tundra went to a water based paint and has to be applied very thin {1.5 mil thick}to avoid running and that no clear coat was used on the darker colors. I have found that this paint scratches very easy, just brushing against it with a jacket button has scratched mine down to the primer. it bothers me that a vehicle with toyotas reputation has fallen to this level. Strength:
Great power and handling.
Weakness:
Warped rotors and a persistnet front end shake which has not been corrected thru repet balancing, new tires and replacement of steering column. Purchased truck in july of 2000. Got a great deal on a fully equiped SR5 extended cab (demo)with a sticker price over 29,000. Similar Products Used: None |

acess cab SR5 4X4 used
Strength:
Quiet, smooth shifting tranmission, powerful engine, comfortable. Nice handling, great brakes except as noted below.
Weakness:
Brakes; Had the rotors and drums replaced under warranty for warping. Get this taken care of before your warranty is over. Toyota has redesigned the front rotors. They said they used 4 Runner drums on the rear??? Seems to work OK for now. Seat belts are awkward to reach (for me). The Dealer was great to work with, no problems what so ever. I''ve owned a 71 Land Cruser, 86 4x4PU, 90 4 runner and now the tundra. The Tundra so far is the best by far. It''s not a problem to log over 900 miles in a day in this truck. I''ve had Chevys, and driven Fords too, this is a very nice truck Similar Products Used: 86 toyota SR5 4x4 PU, 90 SR5 4 Runner |

Strength:
It may be the lesser of other evils.
Weakness:
It is cheep and poor handling of issues by Factory Reps. I purchased this truck in April 1999 new. I have been very unhappy with this truck and the Toyota representatives. The paint was damaged from rail dust (small hot iron fragments that melt into the paint during transportation). Toyota buffed, waxed, and ???. When I got it back it looked 10 years old with swirls, dulled finish, scraches, and wax in all the nooks and crannys. I complained about that and they told me to take a hike (in so many words). I was heart broken as this was my first new truck in 10 years. All my other options were too costly and time consuming as I have to work and spend time with my family. Then the fan clutch went out. The front disks have been turned twice due to warping (factory bullitin on this one). I have received two recall notices. The door pops open when I hit a bump or am off road. The front wheels bounce up and down like basket balls (cheep shocks or design??). They always need balancing and the steering viberates. The body panels are almost as thin as foil. The all weather package does not prevent rock chips allong sections of the bottom. The heavey duty battery leaks acid. The oil filter cannot be removed with out spilling oil all over the skid pan area. The transmission clunks and jerks. The clock is a pain to look for when I need to keep my eyes on the road. the gas milage is breaking me. It is starting to look like an AMC Pacer with a truck bed. Similar Products Used: I purchased a Toyota 4x4 new in 1990. The 1990 was almost flawless. The quality and workmanship are not there anymore. |
