Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

Available in Regular cab, Double Cab and CrewMax styles, the Tundra also features three bed lengths, three engines, three wheelbases and a choice of 4X2 or 4X4 configurations.

The Tundra offers three engines and three cab sizes. Handling is relatively responsive, but the ride with the TRD package is stiff. The 5.7-liter V8 is very powerful. The tailgate is easy to raise and lower. A new 4.6-liter V8 replaced the old 4.7-liter for 2010.

Strength:

Smooth, powerful drivetrain, car like handling and quality fit and finish. Toyota's reliability record speaks for itself.

Weakness:

Nothing so far.

I've always found Toyota vehicles to be reliable so when considering a new p/u I thought about the Tacoma extended cab. After testing one, I test drove the Tundra and came away with the impression that this was a completely different class of vehicle. I knew the engine was the same V-8 used in some of the Lexus models so that instilled confidence. To be fair, I test drove the Ford F150 which is slightly larger but not noticeably so. The Tundra had a quieter, smoother and more responsive drivetrain and my wife felt it had a car like feel. We bought the Tundra. Shortly after our purchase, the data from the Insurance Institute for highway Safety came out. I went to their website at www.hwysafety.org/vehicle and was stunned to see the comparison photos of the Tundra and the F150 after the 40 mph offset headon collision. While the Ford cab buckled up and collapsed, the Tundra's doors still opened and closed. The results quickly made me feel even better about the purchase of the Tundra. Check out the site for yourselves and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Strength:

The drive! Just go and drive one-you'll see.

Weakness:

Gas mileage. I'm coming from a 4cylinder perspective. I'm using more gas but having a lot more fun.

What a great truck! I drove a F-150 and a Silverado and there was no comparison in the ride. The Tundra is smooth as glass and though I'm trying to take it easy till 1000 miles, it's i-force v8 will get up and go!

Similar Products Used:

Better than the Ford or the Chevy that I drove.

Strength:

Good looks. Sporty handling. Good accelartion & performance. Easy to maneuver in tight spaces with the convenience of a pick-up bed.

Weakness:

Terrible wind noise at freeway speeds. Can't have a conversion. Dealer said there was no problem. 4 wheel drive failed on the first attempt to use it. Dlr replaced transfer case. Engine started stalling & running rough. Dlr said s sensor went bad. Just got a recall notice for seatbelt bolts. Armrests don't exist. No good on long trips.
Console is badly placed & cheap.

I like the handling (steering is quick and sporty. Ride is sporty(a bit bouncy). Poor Mileage

Similar Products Used:

GMC Sierra. Complete lemon (junk). Got rid of it after one year. Had in shop 9 times. Will look at Ford F-150, Rangers & Tundras next time.

Model Reviewed: Tundra Access Cab V8 4x2

Strength:

Man this truck is quiet! The V8 is worth the extra bucks for sure. The ride quality and power transmission to the road is slick and very positive. I've read comments from others saying that the styling is not as "aggressive" as the others. Just the other day backing out of a parking spot I caught a young couple in a GMC going by in my side mirror with the girl riding shotgun turned in her seat mouthing the word "Tundra." uh huh, that's what I'm saying!

Weakness:

My first dreams were of the GMC 1500 Sierra Extended Cab. The back seat room is the best in it and that is what is missing in the Tundra.

After a couple years of dreaming about GMC, buying a truck finally became a reality. If you read this and know what I mean about feeling pressured to buy one of big three, don't let yourself go without trying the Tundra. Comments like "Jap crap" and "you bought a foreign car?!" come from the uneducated and those unwilling to faily evaluate all of today's 1/2 ton options.
I picked up this beauty a year old with only 21k km on it and had no issues about it being "previously enjoyed." This truck is plain built like a truck should be. Comfort and safety are big things and this truck has proven to deliver both. The quality of the construction inside and out make it a very appealing buy when considering endurance and reliability alone.
Consider what Toyota has done for years with trucks off-road like Tacoma and 4-Runner and then imagine a solid full-size truck coming from the same place. Consider Tundra. I'm converted.

Similar Products Used:

Having driven Dodge, Ford and GMC I new what a truck used to drive like. But jumping into the Tundra makes the rest look feel less than "Toyota." Refinement is the difference between the Tundra and the rest. If you want a heavy duty work truck, maybe the Toyota isn't what you want. If you are looking for an excellent occasional hauler and everyday commuter this truck can't be beat.

Model Reviewed: SR5 extended cab V8

Strength:

Power, ride, smoothness, brakes, quiet, solid, towing ability, ease of maintenance, stereo, etc.

Weakness:

Small extra cab space. Slightly soft on the suspension. However, this was aleviated with new adjustable rancho suspension shocks.

This is by far the best 1/2 ton truck on the market. I've put 55K hard miles on it without a single glitch. I tow a 4,500 pound boat in 115 degree heat on a regular basis and load the bed with all kinds of heavy building materials. Build quality has been perfect. Incredible brakes. way better than any domestic truck when you compare stopping distances and feel. More than adequate engine power. I routinely out pull Dodge, Fords, and Chevys up hills with similar boats in tow. Great gas mileage for a V8. I'm averaging 18-19mpg.

Chevy Ford and Dodge 1/2 tons.
