Model Reviewed: Harmon/Kardon TC600

Strength:

Clean power, great tunability, reversible fan, mono/stereo

Weakness:

Small speaker terminals (P.I.T.A), you'll need a distribution block cause it has 4 10 gauge inputs for power and ground instead of 2 4 gauge, it overheats pretty easily in the summer time if it doesn't have ALOT of air space

This amp is amazing. I've had it in 3 different cars now. It's somewhat stable at around 1 ohm per channel if you're really careful. Cleanest power you'll ever get. This amp will not only push with ease but probably over-power at least 50% of the 10 and 12 inch subs on the market today. It has a mono mode and a stereo mode, and a 50hz boost knob in addition to the gain control.

Awesome Power and incredible SQ

Weakness:

Huge drain on electrical system

I have owned a TC600 and a TC400q for quite some time now. They are incredible amps. If you have one and You want to sell it I am looking for a TC400Q doesn't matter if it works or if it doesn't I need one to replace mine that was stolen.

Strength:

VERY POWERFUL AND SUPER CLEAN BASS AT LOW LEVEL AND HIGH LEVEL.THE LOUDER THE BETTER. PLAYED FOR HOURS WITH NO PROBLEM AND NO OVERHEATING.RUNNED AT 3.5 OHMS

Weakness:

ITS JUST TOO BIG AND THE WIRING TERMINALS ARE TOO SMALL.

I HAVE THIS AMP SET UP IN MY 2001 SEQUOIA AND IT ROCKS LIKE YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE IT. I HAVE IT CONNECTED IN BRIDGED MODE TO TWO 15" ELECTRO-VOICE 1000 WATTS EACH.ALONG WITH THAT I HAVE TWO HK CA260 CONNECTED IN BRIDGED TO FOUR 10" EVS. THE BASS IS SO HARD OUT OF THE TC600 THAT YOU CAN FEEL THE GROUND SHAKE. IF YOU PUT A BOTTLE OF COKE ON THE ROOF IT WILL VIBRATE TIL IT FALLS OFF.

Strength:

More power than you will ever need

Weakness:

No crossover, wire ports too small BUT IT IS STILL THE BEST

I first saw this amp when my best freind picked it up from a buddy of his for $400. We ran the amp in his jeep cherokee off a 99 model alpine wich was rated the best on the market, to three JL 15 W3''s that year we attended the spring decibal drag in Eugene Oregon, there were 54 competitors and we placed firt in overall loudness w/ 164 decibals. On a more personel note the top 5 competitors ran JL also and 7 more in the top 20 (gotta love JL) I will never ever depart w/ this bad ass amp for thete is not one to match it in any way.

Strength:

See above - clean, smooth, accurate sound. Extremely dynamic - they sound like they will never run out of power.

Weakness:

On the large size - 17"L x 13"W x 3.25"H. No electronic crossover - I used the Sony XEC-505 with great results.

I currently have a TC400Q and a TC600. I bought them for an audio system I put in my car about 5 years ago. I used the TC400Q for about 3 years in that car with no problems. I never ended up using the TC600, because the TC400Q powered my Vifa/Dynadio separates and JBL GTI1500 so well. These amps are ultra clean, smooth and provide deep, tight bass. I have had the used TC400Q and the brand-new factory sealed TC600 in storage for about 3 years. Email me if your interested in buying either one of them - I can send pictures.

I've used Soundstream amps previously - older model that kept blowing fuses.

Strength:

Clean sound, good looks, cooling tunnel

Weakness:

Goes into protection on low notes. Mine overheats and goes into protection constantly in hot outdoor weather (like 80-90 degress while cruising, you know). The fan in the tunnel is going like crazy, but it's just too hot for it to work.

I've ran this amp in three different cars, and am setting it up in the fourth this week. My previous configurations were 1 JBL GTI1800 1000w sub running bridged. Excellent bass, very loud and clean--no distortion. Wasn't running any caps or anything.

My current car (96 Lincoln Town Car with JBL audio) has some major trunk space. I found another GTI1800 a while back (has been sitting on the shelf, couldn't pass it up at $150) and plan on putting both 18's in the trunk and run them off the TC600--or find another TC 600 or other suitable high-power amp and run them. I'd love to run the TC600 on some a/d/s or MBQuart front speakers.

But anyway, if you find one, keep it for a long time! You'll love it.

I'm actually wondering how the new JBL power amps compare, as these amps are hard to find.

Strength:

Huge power with finesse
Beautiful construction

Weakness:

Connections are too small

We first hooked it up to the shop 6x9 dual cones and were not impressed. No output, completely disappointing. Then we found the gain control on the side of the amp...
We started to turn it up, and all of us, salesmen, installers, customers, almost fell on the floor. Those $20 dual cones sounded the best they were ever going to ever sound in their pitiful lives. They shot out of their surrounds and just stuck there.
This amp will just kill you with its combo of power and finesse. I'm glad you can't get them anymore, because I now own 3 of them, with a TC400Q and a CA260, and I want to be the only one with them. Don't buy them, just send them on to me.

TC400Q is huge power and finesse too
More power than my PPI A600 but use way more current and can't handle the same terminations

Strength:

Reliable
Powerfull
Built properly

Weakness:

Physical size (Way to big)

Wire terminals (Way too small)

Having been in car hifi competition for many a year, I have used a brace of harmon kardon amps in my car for 4 years now without them ever missing a beat. They have a slightly warm sound that is a definite benefit on digital material, they handle the most detailed piece of music impeccably.
The TC600 is an incredibly powerful amplifier and will drive virtually any sub on the market to its limit. Its bass reproduction is clean and dynamic, though high transient peaks will cause a shutdown into low impedances...usually down to the power supply voltage dipping.
I would recomend these amps are run off a second battery for optimum performance.

Strength:

very clean, powerfull amp. extreme stable running with 4ohm

Weakness:

the wire terminals are a too small, I prefered atleast 10mm (it has 5 or 6 mm)

I paid f 1300,-- (DFL) I think its a very reasonable price for such a high quality amp. I hoked 2 x TC600 on 2 x phase linear alliante 12" lim. and it really sounds perfect, not to much "boom" but really clear strong bass. Excellent!
Use it to create a perfect sound in your car, do not use it to "boom"!
