Strength:

Power, never ran hot for me? At least not more than any other amp being worked hard. Never a problem in 6 years!

Weakness:

Cannot buy this style anymore

Best amp I have ever owned. I have run a Soundstream 604, Older 400x4dsm Rockford, Orion 280GT, Jenson, Alpine, Rockford Punch 45/Power 100 old series, and none sound this good. I used it for 3 JL 10W6 1OHM MONO AND IT ROCKED. I then used it to power some MB Quart components and could not believe how clean they sounded. Best amp I have owned, I wander if the newer series compare? They look like crap.

needs lots of power and a good ground what do you exspect its a real amp not a wanna-be

the 225 and 225r are awsome if you had a problem with it you or your installer dont know your head from your , the amps are about the same only difference is one has a internal x-over the other has external . i ran two 12" hcca''s .5 ohm mono thats .25 ohm stereo and it was to die for i was visably shaking quik trip windows "gas station/drink store" . it hit so hard and went so low i had to port the back deck and the deck still flex over 1" the rear seat moved over 2" and it made the pepole that rode in the back weak, deaf and dizy . so i could say more good things about this great amp but it would take a week or more.

Loud deep clean bass.

Weakness:

Gets too hot. Way too hot.

I Had this stupid 225 amp pushing two tens dvc pioneer. At first it was loud as heck until the amp kept getting very warm then very hot.Inever had a gel cap lights would dim a little bit, but after a while one ten blew and in no time the stupid amp coudnt hold the blown ten inch pioneer so my hcca fried with smoke coming out the side with my power wire and ground.

Power!....any questions?

Weakness:

I had to buy a capacitor and i didn't think i needed one but it's worth it. Gets a lil' warm too. I guess that's what happens when ur draining out other peoples systems.

I consider this amp as the "little engine that could". Puts out tons of power. You would think that a 50 watt amp would not need a 1 farad capacitor but i does! It beats my lil' HCCA 10 up, but it can take more. I got a great deal 4 $200 dollars!

Strength:

Lots of power from a small amp. High power (voltage) allows more dynamic headroom.

Weakness:

Runs hot.

My amp runs a pair of Orion XR 12 DVCs to perfection. The subs can hadle 800 watts each, but the 225 is the little amp that could. I've hit 136 + on the meter with this set up. It's stood the test of time.

Strength:

beautiful amp, well constructed, endless power

Weakness:

runs hot, connections were not well designed

i got my first orion about 5 yrs ago and swore i would never power a system with anything less. Any hcca amp is a superior powerplant. They produce all ranges of bass with ease and are very durable. I would recomend these amps to anyone looking for a higher end system.

there is not a 100 watt amp in the world that can compare to the hcca 250

Strength:

Power, Looks, Sound quality, Price(less than a $.80 per watt) and a good warranty

Weakness:

Gets very hot!!! I've had it burn up once but that's the price you pay when your running 1 ohm mono. I shipped it back to Orion and it was fixed and returned 3 weeks later no charge complements of the warranty. I dont think it shouldn't of taken that long to get it back, but I've had no futher problems with it since.

My 225 runs 2 Orion 12"XTR DVC's. I think the XTR's could handle some more power but the 225 still gives them a good beating. I haven't had my system on a SPL drag so I dont know what it's hitting, but a friend of mine with the same exact setup hit around 137db (+/- 1db). Not too bad for a 2x25 watt amp a couple 12's.

Strength:

Awesome power, pushed 2 Jl 15w6s with authority and the gain only half up.Best amp I've ever owned or used. Rated very conservatively.

Weakness:

The input for the power and ground cables are a little tricky, but it gives you a great connection.

I paid $250 for this amp, not to be confused with the new R series amplifiers. Stable to unbelievably low ohms. Easily pushed my two 15s way more than 400 watts. Pushed about 500 watts two each 15 ran in parallel. Ran rather warm but never shut off on me nor did it effect it's performance. Well worth the money I paid for it. Can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it.Highly recommended for anyone who loves bass or quality. Can be used to run your highs, mids, or subs.

Strength:

Besides appearance the amp is practically indestructible. This amp is very powerful and never runs hot.

Weakness:

Would be nice if it had been offered in a 4-Channel version when I bought it.

I bought this particular amp used for $225. I am currently using the amp to drive a pair of MB-Quart 6.5 Coaxils and two 6.5 Bazooka Tubes all crossed over with a Wired Passive Crossover. The overall sound is amazing and I could not be happier.

For about a year I ran an Alpine V-12 MRV-F302 rated at 30 watts x 4 RMS. Don't get me wrong this is a wonderful amp, but it does not compare to the Orion 225 HCCA. Immediately after re-installing the Orion amp I noticed deeper, cleaner and tighter bass response and crisper highs. I was pretty surprised that the difference would be that apparent, especially when you consider that the Alpine amp has a built in active crossover and the Orion is using a passive crossover. In my past experience, I have noticed that active crossovers are usually better performers than active crossovers in a car environment, but this new setup has kind of changed my mind.
