Strength:

Fine sound, good features.

Weakness:

Here's where it sucks: As someone else pointed out, it skips a lot when it gets warm. This occurs much more in the summer, when the ambient temperature is higher. The bottom of the unit and the faceplate get ridiculously hot. I can live with that, but the skipping is really annoying, and seems to be worse than when it was new. I'm ready to chuck it for that alone.

The sound from this unit is great, and installation was a breeze. It does everything I need and is a huge improvement over the Subaru stock CD payer

Strength:

Features, features, features, good price, good sound quality.

Weakness:

CD wouldn't eject fully. 2 "skip" buttons. Unreliable.

I loved this CD player until it broke last Friday. It has an awesome conservative design that matches my interior perfectly (none of this dang space shuttle console design that seems to be so popular nowadays). It had a ton of features: 18 FM/12 AM, adjustable loudness level, low EQ boost selectable between 25-300 hz, 12/24 hour clock, and preamp outs. It was easy to use on the surface, but if you dug deep you could find lots of neat features to play around with. Drawbacks: I too had the problem with ejecting CD's. They would come out 1/2" and that was it. The "Skip" and the "Search" button for the CD player were the same button (you hit once to skip, hold it down to search). Which is normal, except that there was ANOTHER skip button. Why were there two skip buttons, I dunno. And lastly, the thing broke on me. One day it just happened, the CD's would play for a few minutes, then the laser would lose it's position, couldn't find it again, and it'd cut to the radio. Happened with brand new CD's, too. Now I'm looking for a new CD player and I can't find anything adequate to replace it - Blaupunkt has decided to go the rought of gaudy flashy lights and bright colors on their displays. No thanks.

Strength:

sound does not skip faceplate and controls are solid

Weakness:

CD eject

I have 2 of these. They sound good. They never skip. You can turn 'em on without the ignition on, and they stay on for 1 hour - this is a cool feature. One of them is having the problem mentioned above, where the CD does not eject all the way (sticks out about 1/2"). This has not been a problem - 'cause I can still yank it out, but I'm a little nervous about it.

Hi again. Second time reviewing this stuff. So since my last review, I have encountered some new problems. 1. The volume knob started malfunctioning. When I am trying to raise the volume, the volume goes down and vice versa. I have to keep turing it until it finally realizes which direction I am trying to go in. 2. I mentioned this problem in the last review also, but it became worse. The CD ejects even less now that I need tu use my nails (the CD doesn''t come out enough to use my fingers). 3. The CD won''t go in. In a regular player, there''s point where the player starts sucking the CD in. With my player, this point became almost non-existent.

I liked the fact that is had a different color available. It jazzed up my truck a
little bit. When I added my two blaupunkt subs amp and of cours cd changer it made my truck sound great. the built in EQ is a nice touch. Easy to read display with easy controls.

Installed in '95 Toyota P/U. No problems, excellent performance, didn't need amps with p/u (using 6X9 3 way and 4in. OEM style dash units).

Strength:

The rotary-knob volume control, as well as the RDS feature.

Weakness:

Requires an amp. CD player refuses to load.

I wanted to like this unit -- I really did. Crutchfield has the cutest little ads, and the photo of this one looked alluring. For $149.00, how could I go wrong.

I had a pro install the unit. He warned me that several customers with Crutchfield's products had had problems. Fine. Whatever.

I've read the other reviews of Blaupunct cd receivers posted on this site, and I can not understand what the fuss is with CDs skipping in these units. I never had that problem.

In fact, I've never heard a CD in my unit play anything. That's because no CD will load. I keep getting "error" readings. The manual suggests using only clean CDs (duh) and placing the CD with the label up.

Nothing works. I'm sending the unit back to Crutchfield, which claims the unit is on back order.

What about the $59 I spent having it installed? Caveat emptor.

My low review is based upon the unit being faulty.

Strength:

Relatively easy install; RCA pre outs, digital design and function.

Weakness:

Excessive FM "popcorn" distortion in difficult signal reception areas, multipath and intermittent line of sight. Not the best distance receiver by any means. I have owned several factory OE unit that beat this one, Clarion units in recent Nissans, for instance. I should add that I am no fan of Clarion's
In fact, I replaced a Clarion unit with this blue point special and got the worse of the deal. This after reading some magazine reviews, especially one by Ken Pohlman, that didn't tell me how poor this Blaupunkt really is.
Operating the unit is an ergonomic nightmare.Confusing and non intuitive controls force you beck to manual repeatedly because nothing makes much sense.
This unit is a piece of crap, No wonder Fry's was discounting the unit madly. I should have suspected something.
Power rating is an outright lie. I doubt that is 10 watts rms per channel.

My disappointment is assuaged somewhat by the price ($200) I paid, which included installation. Anything higher is a very poor buy. This is the second time I have been keenly disappointed with Blaupunkt receivers. I still haven't learned the lesson about that great German engineering. Around 1982 I replaced a dying and defective Becker receiver in a BMW 3.0si with a Blaupunkt. The bimmer, the becker, and the blaupunkt were all bummers.

Strength:

Sound quality & ease of use. Great Radio reception.

Weakness:

Some of the controls are not intuitive after using other brands.

I installed the Nevada along with a Blaupunkt cd changer and Thummer in my Integra because I wanted a CD player. I love new gadgets, and this one has more features than I know what to do with! The sound quality is better than the original Pioneer with much better volume control, and the dials/buttons are very easy to use. Some of the equalizer adjustments are not things you want to adjust with while driving, but main functions like changing stations, switching between sources (cd, radio, changer), and volume control are easy from both the console and the Thummer steering wheel remote. The three components work great together, but I end up using the in-dash cd more than the changer. I drove cross country after having this installed, and got much better radio reception than other times I'd travelled the same region.

This is a radio for someone who wants more than the basics. It's a wonderful toy for your car!
