Strength:

Ergonomics, sonics, looks

Weakness:

I wish a model was made with a detachable faceplate. My local crooks are very stupid.

Perfect for someone who is not interested in countless features, dancing light displays and other crazy crap. For a relatively inexpensive, simple system this is The deck. Great, open, low distortion, balanced sound. Other gear includes B.A. Pros and an old Pioneer amp.

Strength:

everything but key cd.

Weakness:

key cd thing. too complicated and time consuming although i haven''t really tried it yet

This reciever is great. not all the unnecessary gadgets to make it look cool. just overall a strong cd player, sometimes skips when going over very large bumps very fast but not very often.

Strength:

Everything, virtually unskippable, NOB makes everything much more simplistic, never distorts, excellent price, Has all the features I want w/o the complications. Smooth look goes perfect in my vintage Benz.

Weakness:

That i didn't hear of it sooner.

It's an amazing piece of machinery for a good price. The awards speak for themselves and for the past 2 years, Eclipse recievers have been rated #1 in the industry. I have in hoooked up to some 5 1/4" eclipses, 4" cerwin vegas, and an MTX amp and 3 MTX 10' subs. Beautiful, simply beautiful, I can't wait to add some Diamond tweeters and it'll all be complete.

Strength:

Sound quality. Easy to use. Looks.

Weakness:

None

My wife gave me the deck as a Valentines gift. I can't thank her enough. The sound quality is awesome. I have factory speakers (for now, any suggestions) and even they sound great. I enjoy the simple design so if you like all the bells and whistles look elsewhere. But if you are looking for great sound and quality look no further. I have had no problems with any cds skipping.

Strength:

This deck is extremely clean and very easy to use. I have found no distortion, even at the highest level. It has a very simplistic, yet classy feel and is just the look I needed for my classy 74' Chevy Impala. For the money, this deck is definitely hard to beat. The quality is unbelievable and the sound is incredible.

Weakness:

Nothing yet!!

Simply put, if you like the hits....Go Eclipse. I am a very enthusiastic music listener and pay very specific attention to detail. With eclipse, each deck, speaker, amplifier does exactly what is supposed to do. I've always felt that quality is priceless. Eclipse proved me wrong. For just $249, I am a happy camper. I would definitely reccommend this deck.

Before I had a Pioneer deck. Was completely satisfied until I bought an Eclipse deck. Pioneer was ok for the cash, but tended to distort at higher levels.

Strength:

Decent looks. 2 pre-outs. Easy to install.

Weakness:

Key CD feature. A bit pricey.

This is my second CD deck and I must say it's done the job so far. I haven't had any problems with it yet. No skips (even on the pot-hole happy Vancouver streets). I'm sure there are better decks out there but if you're looking for a no frills and no gimmicks deck then place this one on your list and check it out. I like the fact that the tone controls (bass, treble, fade, etc) are integrated with the volume knob. This makes it user-friendly. However, I do wish some of the buttons were back-lit so I wouldn't have to fumble with them while driving at night. This deck also has 2 pre-outs so upgrading to an amp should pose no problem. As far as how it sounds? Well, you'll have to let your ears be the judge of that. But like I said earlier, so far so good.

Strength:

Easy to use
Looks great
Sounds nice

Weakness:

The Key CD thing seems a bit annoying. I just never used that option so I don't have to worry about it if the battery dies.

The Eclipse is easier to use than any of the other CD players I've used, or tried in the stores before I bought them. You don't have to get into very many car acccidents while trying to adjust the station or volume, etc. And it also has a very astheticly pleasing volume knob. It looks nice and has a great feel. I've never had a problem with CDs skipping even over train tracks or on rough terrain, although I don't go off-roading in my Integra very often. Definately woth the $249 I paid for it.

Weakness:

their sound..to me eclipse is a fraud. its really high ( both in terms of price and grainy ) it hurts my head, i dont like it. but, since the ones im talking about are older models still costing around $400-$500 i wont ruin their better rated units....still I think Eclipse sounds horrible

honestly listen to it...dont just be fooled because everyone else likes it, this stuff is grossly over priced and overrated TRY ALPINE

Model Reviewed: 99/5440

Strength:

build quality seems high

The design of the CD player, specifically the method the laser reads the disc, is apparently flawd in respect to playing american CDs. My 5440 skips on certain disks and I have been told that it is because american CDs are of lesser quality. I don't understand how Eclipse, and dealers, can sell a deck in the U.S. that doesn't play a large percentage of American CDs. They replaced my deck for free, but the new head unit still skips. Besides that, the tuner seems to be quite weak -- I have a bathroom radio that pulls in stations better. Result = Entirely Unsatisfied
