Strength:

I love the rotary nob for the volume!! The unit is very easy to operate... Also... The sound from this unit is extremely smooth and flawless... And It looks very classy. This is by far the best sounding cd player I have ever owned.

Weakness:

No weakness... As far as I am concerned the unit is perfection.

I paid $300 for my unit, and I believe it is by far better than any other unit out there for the price, and quite poissibly better than others that are priced higher. One reason for this is that other units rely on useless features, and eye catching "vegas style" lighting to reach out and grab the potential buyer... While Eclipse grabs you by the ears and shows you where it's at!! I recommend this cd player highly to anyone looking for great sound quality.

I have been a die hard Alpine fan for many years... I went into my dealers store, and there they were... Alpine, and Eclipse. He said... Let me put this Eclipse in your car, and trust me ( You won't regret it ). He was absolutely right... Alpine who?

I had a Premier detachable face CD player for 5 years before it was stolen. I now have a wonderful faceplate souvineir.

Weakness:

Not a single complaint, yet.

I had a Premier with 2-6.5" speakers in my Honda Civic. I didn't know how crapy it really was untill I had the Eclipse installed with Eclipse 6.5" 2-way speakers for $530. It seemed as though I wasn't getting a lot for my money...but I was dead wrong.

I figured I wanted a stereo from a company who put its money into researching good sound and quality components instead of the useless bells, whistles and flashing lights found on many systems. When it comes right down to it, ask yourself this question: Do I want a stereo that will impress my friends with gadgets, that you will forget about 6 months from now after their novelty wears off, or with high quality music? The choice should be easy.

Who needs all the bells, whistles, and flashing lights when it doesn't produce good quality sound. What do you think you are paying for anyways?

Strength:

What a great deck. Excellent build quality and phenominal sound!

Weakness:

No pause button.

I am the type of person that likes to listen to music at extreme levels. SO you could say that I am hard on my stereo equipment. The Eclipse 5441 handles my abuse with ease. I love the amount of volume you get out of it. The music is so precise. A great deck without all of those stupid features you'll never use!

Strength:

sounds great, relatively inexpensive, for $300 you get what you pay for when you are buying eclipse

Weakness:

It will not stop clipping when the CD player is playing. It isnt skipping it is clipping. It makes a grotesque scracthing and sickning sound. The sound occurs approx. 10 min after listening to it loud.

If you are using with your stock speekers and no external amplifier its great. Dont add a amplifier. The clipping is because the DA converter is heating up and thats because the radio is working too hard through the RCA outputs, thus making the noise. Supposidly says the radio install shop. Whatever. $300 worth of crap for what I am trying to do. I'm running the 2000 components, 5x7 2way coaxal rear speakers, the large 4way amplifier for highs and mids, two polk audio db 12's, and a relatively inexpensive planet audio rear sub amp. The reciever doesn't like it

Strength:

Controls, lighting, and oh, such sweet sounds. It plays music. And unlike someone says in another review posted here, mine plays all of my CD-Rs just fine.

Weakness:

Somewhat pricey against similarly equipped units from mainstream manufacturers, but I'd say it's proably worth the extra. Tuner can't be set to tune to .even freqs (such as 102.4), but skips from, say, .3 to .5. Not a problem stateside, but many if not most stations in Western Europe use .even freqs, so I'm tuned a bit off center, which makes my receiving range very short.

The unit fit perfectly into my '95 Accord, both physically and sonically. Everything else is stock, just six pretty mediocre speakers and the modest power of the 5441 head unit. Maybe some day I'll pop for a JL Audio CS110W3 sub (just one, thanks), ADS or BA mains and tweeters, and a little more power (as long as it's as clean as what I'm getting now). For over a year I've been pleased enough with the improvement from just replacing the OEM cassette head unit with the Eclipse that I have been in no hurry to go any further. That says a lot for what good, clean elctronics at the base of a system can achieve. Good job, Fujitsu Ten!

Build quality, ESN, excellent warranty and that liquid smooth sound made this selection a no-brainer; I didn't even try anything else in my car.

Strength:

Eclipse has done something that other deck manufacturers should pay attention to, and that is make a tasteful looking, delicious sounding and relatively affordable deck that thieves won't steal. Hooking mine up to quart 316 3-way, ppi6600 amp for bi-amp fronts, and bridged for alumapro alchemy 12dvc, should be pretty good q. Only deck I've ever considered replacing my beloved 7803s with.

Weakness:

none

I paid 350 including 3years extended service program. I used to sell extended warranty, boys, you really should get it on all of your cd players. Go back to physics class if you don't understand these insurance policies. (Hint, Imagine what your deck goes through when your car hits pothole.) If you want a high quality deck which looks very classy and sounds even smoother, at a reasonable price without by all means, get one of these gems before they go. If you want one that looks like vegas at night and that will confuse the heck out of everyone else who has to use it, go buy an alpine/sony/clarion and continue in the bliss of ignorance. Don't forget to pop-off that face before you get out.

Strength:

Simple interface. NOB is super convenient. Great back-lighting. NO DETACHABLE FACE - SO NICE!

Weakness:

Seek on the radio requires more than a touch.

Experiencing intermitent skipping. Installer recommended a back-mounting bracket only found in 2000 Jeep Wranglers, not in previous models. Back of the player may be bouncing. Will post update when mounted.

$299. I would recommend the unit, providing Eclipse has resolved the power supply problem that resided in the 5441 - mine is a 5441i. It's a great product.

Sound (they kick a$$!), quality, looks (esp at night), ease of use, good and simple functions, etc

Weakness:

will have trouble iwht scratched discs... but then again, what doesn't? i own stock speakers...

The price is kinda high, but it is worth every penny. this system is soooo awesome, i don't even know where to start describing. At night the its easy to read and use. Its one of the lower models in the eclipse lineup, but the only realy difference between it and the higher levels are the functions. it sounds JUST as good! in this price range, NOTHING else can compare.

Strength:

NOB (no ordinary button), sub control, GREAT tuner(yes, I still sometimes listen to the radio), and build quality is superb! Oh yeah, ESN is great!

Weakness:

Um, well, I dunno.

I actually own the 5341, which is ALMOST the same except for the NOB doesn't light up, the design is a little different, and I only paid $200 as a closeout for it. May be the best deal I ever get on such a nice CD player. If you have the chance to buy one of these, DO IT! They are awesome! You can't go wrong with ESN either!
