Well made unit very good sensitivity on KA Band easy to read digital display, voice alert. Tested against my Valentine One version 1.8 and alerted to KA Band first around several curb test and one over the hill test both units tested separately radar gun used Stalker hand held, this unit performed almost as well on staightaway test alerted within 1,000 ft of the valentine one version 1.8 highly recommend this unit if KA Band radar is used in your area.

Strength:

great distance, picks up K band like a mo fo, Tells me when a moving train or emergency vehicle is ahead.

Weakness:

got nailed going 14 over by laser.

Got this from a friend who won it at a raffel. Never knew it was this good. Anyways saved my ass like 5miles ahead of time on my way to panama city from atlanta. Those alabama cops suck. Love this radar but has alot to false alarms

Strength:

cheap price compared to V1

Weakness:

Cheap performance compared to V1

Actually one of the guys in our race club bought this one... He got it on the net for $189 with shipping. He was bragging how he saved 200 bucks compared to us who all have Valentine 1s. We have this race where we open road race for 40 miles (top end and good handling) He got nailed by a trooper with a antiquated K band gun...sad very sad. He said that it only warned him enough to get down from 120mph to 97mph (but he still got caught 32 over the speed limit) He will spend about 300 in attorney costs not to mention defered ajudication for 6 months... he should have spent $100 more for escort or even better $200 for the Valentine

Price, software upgrades, sleak

Weakness:

Still not the best

Not a bad detector, especially for the price, but anyone comparing it to the Valentine1 is only fooling themself. Good bang for the buck, but definitely not the "best" available detector!

Strength:

3 Year Warranty Radar Sensitivity and Range Very Little Falsing

Weakness:

Could get a little dimmer in DIM mode

This is an OUTSTANDING radar detector. You have to be crazy to drop another 100-225.00 for a passport 8500 or valentine one! This is a top of the line unit and gives outstanding radar range and after shutting off x band (not used in my area) the 970 rarely if ever falses. Picks up excellent over hills and around corners...the only reason you would get a ticket with this is if your the only one on the road and your hit w/ instant on or laser..in which case 10 Valentine 1''s couldn''t save your behind. (if you cant see cars in the distance DONT SPEED) Great investment w/ the 3 year warranty!!

Weakness:

Some Falses

This product is by far the best radar detector I have used!! I''ve used Uniden, Whistler, and older Bel''s, and it blows them away!! I''m in sales, and I''m on the road all day. There are plenty of opportunities for me to test my Bel out, and believe me it works well. The sensitivity is excellent. Example 1: I was approaching a stop light and I received a K band warning. Looked around and didn''t see any threats. When I made the left turn at the light, the K band signal became stronger and stronger, until about 3/4 mile down the road is where a Motorcycle cop was sitting holding his radar gun. I''ve also picked up Safety Alert Radar as far as 1.2 miles away, and that was in a heavily false alrm urban area. Everyone complains about the false alarms, yes there are a few, but very easy to interpret. On my normal 80 mile trek a day, I receive probably 4 false alarms (not too shabby). This is by far the best radar detector under $250 street price!!! Will update with more REAL WORLD traps as I encounter them.

LOUD ENOUGH TO HEAR IF WINDOWS OPEN,RADIO ON,AND TALKING !

Weakness:

DIM MODE STILL TOO BRIGHT AT NIGHT, SO THEN USE DARK MODE BUT ELIMINATES ALL SIGNALS !!!

EXCELLENT WARNING RANGE TYPICALLY. NOT A LOT OF EXPERIENCE WITH LASER.
COMPARED TO EVERYTHING ELSE AVAILABLE IT PERFORMS NEAR THE BEST AND THEREFORE IT'S THE BEST BUY !

Strength:

Very good K and KA Band range. Took a trip to Phoenix and was saved 6 times
It's harder in Arizona because they use pulse radar. It picks up far enough
ahead,so still warns sends out a differen't warning when pulse is detected.
If no other car's are within a mile won't do much good.

Weakness:

a lot of X band falses. I turn it off. It's not used here anyway.

Exelent product.

SOFTWARE UPGRADEABLE
3 YEAR WARRANTY
HAND TUNED CERTIFIED PERFORMANCE
INCREDIBLE DETECTION RANGE

Weakness:

NEEDS A MORE STABLE WINDOW MOUNT

THIS DETECTOR IS INCREDIBLE I WAS STOPED AT A RED LIGHT WAITING TO TURN LEFT WHEN IT SOUNDED A K BAND ALERT WHEN I TURNED I DROVE ABOUT 3/4 OF A MILE WHEN A MOVING POLICE CAR CAME OVER A HILL WITH HIS RADAR ON. I HAVE HAD MANY RADAR ENCOUNTERS ON ALL BANDS WITH SIMILAR PERFORMANCE. I HAVE NOT RUN INTO ANY LASER YET. THIS UNIT IS A HAND TUNED NON VOICE VERSION OF THE BEL 980 THAT HAS BETTER RANGE THAN THE VALENTINE ONE (SPEEDZONES.COM) THE ABILITY TO UPGRADE THE SOFTWARE IS GREAT,RADAR GUN MANAFACTURES ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON A SPREAD SPECTRUM RADAR GUN,WHEN THEY COME OUT ALL NON UPGRADEABLE DETECTORS WILL BE USELESS. THE DETECTION RANGE AND ALL OF THE FEATURES AND PRICE (LESS THAN HALF OF WHAT I PAID FOR A V1) MAKE THIS DETECTOR THE BEST ON THE MARKET.

THIS UNIT IS BETTER THAN ANYTHING I HAVE EVER USED
