Strength:

Much better midbass than the Infinity Reference components they replaced. Smoother tweeters than the Boston Pro tweeters. I prefer soft dome tweeters.

Weakness:

None that I can find.

This is an excellent sounding 2-way component set. Good midbass performance from the mid-woofer. Smooth treble response from the tweeter. I prefer them over Boston's hard dome tweets.

The Bostons were purchased to replace the Infinity Reference components I had. The Infinity mid-woofer distorted badly on loud midbass. And that was with them high-passed at 80Hz @ 18dB/octave. I dropped in the Bostons and the distortion was gone.

The sound is good except for the highs, which are a bit to tinny for me. It all helps if you have a good eq to go along for the ride. Mids are good for the low-end they produce and extends really low. But you need at least 75 watts to create that mid-bass punch or to get up-front bass.

Strength:

clean 'natural' highs....not too dull or too shill. Good accurate midbass.

Weakness:

needs a good amp.

You should normally find these new between $200-250, which might run you a bit more than the infinitys and the fosgates, but they are worth the extra money. I have worked with selling and installing car audio for 10 years now, and i have found that the rc-61 is one of the best 2way components you can get...esp for the money. Go ahead and just write off the infinitys and fosgates (not impressive at all). The MbQuartz are very nice however although they seem shrill and very bright (and expensive). Polk dB series are impressive as well, however they too are a bit expensive and although they come close, they still do not outperform the bostons.
For a while, i had these bostons hooked up to a 50x2 kenwood. They sounded alright...about what was expected. I finally got around to switching that kenwood amp out with a PPI powerclass 50x2. wow! The complimenting head unit is a sony ES. After hearing the BA's with the PPI i became very impressed and accually hooked up this trio into a honda which was used for compitition...and won sound quality first place (with another ppi to JL-W6s, and ppi x-over). Bottom line-- if you are looking to spend 400+ on some pold dbs, or on some mbquartz, save yourself the 200, get the BA's and spend the extra 200 towards a PPI or Xtant...i'm sure you'll be satisfied with the results...and remember, components always do better in the front (ex. doors). The BA's perform far beyond their price range and actually give speakers twice the price a run for their money.

Strength:

Cleanest, strongest, most detailed sound for the price. Tweeters not to harsh compared to other Boston products.

Weakness:

Packaging and target audience.

For $300 retail, there is not a single speaker that beats these. In my opinion, the sound is better balanced on the Rallys than on the 6.5 Pros, which have a slightly deafening tweeter. Having heard (in and outside my car) speakers by Dynaudio, Focal, and CD Technologies at more than twice the price, I am still amazed by how good the Rallys sound. I wouldn't go as far as to say they beat a set of properly installed Focal Utopias, but on the right amp (I chose a bright Xtant), these sound better than almost anything you can get for under $500, including my CD Technologies 3-ways.

Strength:

Great build and sound quality for the price, accurate highs and mids, highs not too harsh

Weakness:

somewhat weak bass response (Ive heard the woofers do far better in some form of enclosure)

Im pushing these alongside a pair of RX97 6x9s with an orion cobalt 200.4 50w x 4 and paid $250. Great overall sound quality and value, just dont expect these speakers to add much to your systems bottom end, cross em' at 70-150 hz and they'll sound great

RX67, no comparison, after the purchase of my amp these were easily overpowered

Strength:

Extremely clean sound quality
Excellent, smooth highs and mids

Weakness:

They could use a good equalizer for some frequencies

Hello! I bought my 6.5" Boston Acoustics Rally speakers from Tweeter, etc.
in Portsmouth, NH. Tweeter is one of Boston's top authorized resellers, who deals with the entire range of products (automotive/home/marine/etc.).
I owned a 1994 Acura Integra RS at the time, and was running a pair of Kenwood KFC-P602 speakers. While decent, I wasn't terribly impressed with the speakers. Though, I got them for a song, so it wasn't like I felt taken!

I wanted to upgrade, and as I already owned the Boston MediaTheater system on my PC, and absolutely love(d) it, the Rally series were worth my looking. The folks at Tweeter were professional and friendly as usual.
The speakers were priced around $250, though I got mine for $225--can't remember why. Once installed, I was immediately impressed. I had a Pioneer Premier GM-X424 amplifier at the time.

Recently, I sold the Acura and purchased a 2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS. I removed all the stereo equipment from the Acura pre-sale. This time, I opted for professional, custom kick panels for my Rallies, versus door-mounting. What a wonderful decision! They sound beautiful. I also replaced the amp with an Alpine MRV-F353 5-channel, and replaced my Pioneer subwoofer tube with a genuine Boston Acoustics Competitor 10" subwoofer.
(Which is fantastic as well, very clean.) What a difference the new amp and kick panels make! (My CD player is an Alpine CDA-7940 passive unit.)

Next week I'll be installing an AudioControl Four.1 equalizer/line driver,
in-dash. I was looking to adjust a few of the frequencies on the speakers. Overall they are excellent, however they could use a little tuning in the mid-range from time to time. The Rallies do have soft-domed tweeters, however, which are positively wonderful. I can't stand most metallic tweeters--far too harsh.

For value, these are top-notch. Overall, they are excellent, though they need a little help to run at their peak. Not necessarily a bad thing, however.

GREAT VALUE!!!

I bought these off Ebay for a mere $80...wow what a deal! These things sound great!!! I knew instantly how awesome they were. My brother has bostons in his home and i knew they were great, no exception here! I've been running them with a piece of junk Sony CD player, but soon will be replacing that with a pioneer premier, which is the same set up as a friend. At low wattage (20w peak), just like any good speaker they cut out, but beyond that they have a great sound. I'd strongly recommend a good system before thinking about these babies, unless you want to forfeit the sound they deserve!!!

Great speakers for the price!!!
I have tried several speakers and found a pair of these in the front of my car to really take control of my soundstage needs in my car for mid to high range. I cut the speakers off at about 120hz down, I have 12" subs in the trunk for the lower frequency. I find these speakers to be an excellent addition to my sound system, very clean and never clip.

Weakness:

The only weakness for these speakers is when they are connected to an under-powered amp.

Price paid was $135 per speaker.

I have the speakers connected to an MTX Thunder 5400X amp that is controlled by Kenwoods Excelon series KDC-X911. Great speakers to compliment music of all types.

Strength:

A lot of treble, a fair amount of bass. Good price. Crystal clear sound.

I have had these speakers in my car for over a year now, and as other Boston speakers that I own (home) I have had absolutely no problems with these. I am running these through a 45 watt four channel amp. I also have rally 5 1/2's in the back of my Blazer. I decided to go with coaxes in the back to simplify installation and to cut down costs. There was not quite enough bass for my music so I added another amp and a 10 inch sub. I don't think I could ask for a better system.

Strength:

exceptional mid-bass to upper-midrange response for the 6 1/2" driver, the seperate tweeter is crisp and clean at the very top end of the spectrum, the supplied cross-over seems adequate.

Weakness:

The 6 1/2" drivers start to muddy at increased volumes while trying to reproduce low bass response, at increased volumes the tweeter starts to wine a little.

While hooked up to a Rockford Fosgate Punch 200a amp and adding two additional 8" eclip drivers for the rear channel along with two more tweeters, running all in drivers bi-mode, Run the RC-61's front in high pass, 8" Eclips in the rear off the rear channel of the amp in low pass. The additional tweaters were run off the Clarion deck. Whew quite loud and clear for a Nissan truck!
