*Great power handeling
*The SQ
*the loudness

Weakness:

what's a weakness?????

Very nice, the pro 12's have excelent sound quality, there is no need to push 1200 watts into it i push 650 into mine and i is loud, it also goes very low, it shakes all the cars around me, but yet it is not made for slp but sq, so it does what it was designed for and more. as long as you have a good amp pushing it then it will just about beat any other sub.

i don't see how people could rate this sub anyting less the 5 stars.

Strength:

Sounds good, works in small boxes.

Weakness:

looks cheap, the look could be better. Brakes if you play it in a larger box, and you loose a lot of deep sound in a smaller. The rubber sourround can in some cases detach from the cone and make a terrible noise, but it hasn't happend to me (yet??). a bit to overrated power handling

don´t play this sub in a larger box, because the power handling drops terrible, and you can easily brake it with even a small amp. The rubber surround CAN brake if you push the woofer to hard (or play it in a larg box), and ones this happends, you have a woofer that plays bas bass i´ll tell you.

but I think this is a good sub, but it could be a little bit cheaper, then it could be alot more worth to buy because there's much better alternatives on the market today, i.e. the soundstream woofer.

Looks, Performance, Accuracy. These subs are tight.

Weakness:

Whats not to like, if you are poor then maybe the price!! Remember quality costs a little more!!!!

Regardless of what these other bozos say, these subs are awesome!! I was running my pair of inverted 12.5lf's off of a Phoenix Gold XS2500 bridged @ 2ohms. The performance wasn't bad (142db's). Yes these subs are a little power hungry. I decided to get a little more power. I am using a Soundstream Rubicon 502 which at 2ohms puts out 1011 watts RMS. (so ive been told). Let me tell you these subs POUND and my amp gain is all the way down, yes down. Rap and hip hop music plays really loud. I have been running these for just about a year now Had to return one because the cone and the surround were seperating. Apparently there was some sort of adhesive problem. All in all these are the only Subs I care to own. They make people stop and look and my passengers always leave with a smile on their face. Can't wait to see what 1200 watts RMS each sounds like seeing as they only have 500 each now. Buy these if you want high quality, high performance subwoofers. Remember try before you buy. Go to your local shop and listen to them, you won't be disappointed.

Strength:

TO THE LETTER sound quality! No deviation from musicality EVER no matter what. Does not matter WHAT you listen to, it is played as it was meant to sound!

Weakness:

When mounted upside down rubber surround comes unglued in the winter.

I don't know why this speaker is rated below any JL model! I hear far too much bichin about the recommended enclosure volume . If you can't get an enclosure the right size, hire a professional or stick to your Wal-Mart woofers! I blew my reference 12's one too many times so when a had a few extra bucks I walked into Tweeter To pick up another amp for my tweeters. One of the salesman that I always delt with told me they had a set of floor model 12.5's i could steal for 175 each I said what the hell I will try them at least while I was down to one soundstream. When I put them in the car I was emazed. I ran them off a bridged out a/d/s PQ20 As I had with my SS's When I pulled into my driveway after installing them at my auto shop, my neighbor came over and asked what I had done. I told him and he explained to me that he knew something was different because it wasnt as loud and boomy as usual but that it had turn the pictures on his living room wall!! No bull! So as far as the low end of the speaker, it hits lower than you could imagine. It just isnt as boomy as say... a JL w3.For the record, I installed them 2 years ago and only had to take them out to have the cones reglued. Not bad for floor models!

Dynamic Range.

Got a small deal on these from The Good Guys. I don't recommend going there unless you have no other choice. I have used other subs in the past.
Previous generation of Boston Pro Series, Alumapro, DynAudio, PPI, Phoenix Gold, A/D/S, Orion etc....

Now about the boston. I used one single 4ohm VC sub in the back of a Blazer powered by a Phoenix Gold XS 2500 wired bridged mono. I am not sure what Boston recommends for a x-over freq. but the amp comes w/ a 100HZ lowpass crossover @ a 24db downslope. The boston seemed to lose it's composure while trying to play higher freq. notes at higher volumes while not being able to hit low freq. very well either. I had made sure that my box was a perfectly sealed 1.0 cube box. This sub just did not fulfill my high expectations of Boston as it did in the past. I know that one of the well known weaknesses of this sub is not being able to play subsonic freq. and people accept that saying that this is a "Musical Sub" and not for the teeny bopper yo homie type who wants to play rap all day and go def by the time they are 19. My personal approach to audio is I want to reproduce the music as the artist intended without letting hardware get in the way. So if the note is on the CD I want to hear it. Or depending on the CD fell it even if it can't be heard if that is what the artist intended.

For a more well balanced sub with great dynamic range(low and high freq), equivalent enclosure size to the Boston Pro, more humble power requirements, good looking sub with choice of colors, and quite frankly KICKS THE S**T out of any other sub in the market try Alumapro. :)

uhhmm... welll... riiite....

I don't know all that much about car audio, but I went against all my friends advice and went for a Boston rather than a Cerwin Vega and JL. I can honestly claim that my sound rocks. I have a single 12" only but it will compete SPL-wise my friend's trio of 10" JL w3. And mine has wayyy better SQ. Ofcourse I fire my sub through my ski-hole from my trunk so it has a clear path to the cabin (of my '95 Maxima) so that helps a little. I'm powering it with a PPI PC1400.2 at 2 ohms. I dunno what the gain is or anything on it... the guys at Al & Ed's did all that for me. But I really like this sub. I think other subs in its class are the eclipse and perhaps alumpapro. Boston's a little pricier but in my opinion... very worth it.

love the looks of this sub!

Weakness:

INCREDIBLY AINAL!!! this sub needs EXACTLY 1 cu ft in order for it not to blow up... didn't hit the lows all that well... this sub is more for rock, country, etc.

i paid only 125 each for two 12.5's (phat hook up) ive owned them for about 6 months now and i must say, i haven't been all that pleased with them. i listen to rap mostly (not exclusively) and they really don't hit as hard as i want them to. yeah, it might be because they are so anal about the box size... (i think i was runnin em at like 1.2 cu ft each) im just fed up with them. im gonna try the mtx 8000's to see what they can do. (i can always switch back with my hook up)

The review below by Justin is a perfect example of an idiot who doesn't have a clue about following instructions or quality sound. Reviews like that hurt what review sites are trying to accomplish.
Cerwin Vega?? Complete crap compared to the Boston Pro Series, not even in the same ballpark! If you like loud, boomy, unaccurate and overwelming the rest of the music bass, hey this is your sub! Not to mention the build quality of the Pro Series is 10 times better than Cerwin Vega.
If this guy used the proper sized enclosure and used plenty of clean high end power,(not crap like orion, mtx, etc.), he would have gotten excellent results.
I've been doing this a long time and the pro's are among an elite group of subs that have few rivals.
If you want something in the same league, try the new Eclipse alloy subs, also excellent($360.00 ea).

Build quality second to none.
Extremely durable when set up right.
Cost/Performance ratio

Weakness:

Needs proper setup otherwise NONE!

How can anybody rate these subs or any other pro series
products anything but 5 stars? Their accuracy is second to none. No, they don't play the absolute lowest in terms of frequency, but how low do they need to play? This sub is not for kids, but for people who really enjoy music.
When driven properly they hit extremely hard. Must use high quality electronics(ads, kenwood excellon,mac,adcom,etc.).
I have listened to more subs than I care to mention and nothing compares in my humble opinion.
Anybody who blows these subs doesn't know what they are doing. The same goes for anybody who doesn't trial these subs before they buy new gear.
By the way, MTX is garbage compared to anything Boston.

Strength:

Killer SQ bass
High power handling

Weakness:

EXTREMELY power hungry if you plan to play it loudly
Reliability issues

I love my Pro. If you like MUSIC this is the sub for you. This sub produces tight, musical bass, the way bass is meant to be heard. If you want boomy slop, get a JL or the like. My only complaints are that this sub requires as much power as you can throw at it, and if you don't give it enough, it will self destruct when pushed hard. I have blown a few subs running as much as 300 watts into them (Phoenix Gold XS 4600 bridged). My dealer told me to get more power so I got a new amp (Phoenix Gold XS 2500 @ 500 watts RMS) and it seems to have done the trick. It plays loud as heck without distorting and is always tight, and musical. I paid 300 CDN$ for mine brand new(about 200 US$). It lives in a TIGHTLY sealed 1 cubic foot box stuffed with a bit of Polyfill. Highly recommended when used in the right application.
