Model Reviewed: JL 12W6's

Strength:

Everything! Tight clean musical bass all the way down to low low bass with no distortion whatsoever. Cannot blow them! Best sounding ever!

Weakness:

They sound like sh1t! in sealed minimum recommended box size. I tried everything, including adding foam. Porting the box helped a little but still did not like the sound. Bandpass all the way but also means bigger box sizes. But still small in my opinion to other brands requirements for bandpass boxes.

First! JL Audio Subs Kick Major A$$! The reason why all of you are blowing them up is because you are under powering them! I use a Precision Power 2300. A 300x2 @ .02 THD. and crank it as hard as I can but they never blow! People are right, Do NOT put these in the sealed minimum recommended box sizes. They sound really muddy and distort easily. however as soon as I built a 5th order bandpass box to put them in they cranked so hard! My rear view mirror always bends down everytime! and that is like half way up! I can't even sit in the car! It reproduces Extreme lows to Mid bass extremely well. The bass is very musical when it has to be and hits really hard and also can be very tight and punchy. The Bandpass also cancels out any audible distortion! Something to do with phase cancellation. As for there build quality I tried to blow some JL10W6's before (to return them for warranty), and could not do it. Me and my friend ended up plugging them into the 110V home electrical socket and it sounded like a helicopter was landing on the roof! Still could not blow it! The measured ohms still had not changed! I had to finally hold the woofer cone down with alot of force while my friend zapped it with the 110v house current in order to finally get the ohm reading to fail down to 2.6. They are bulletproof!. I've had mine for 4 years and they still crank!!!! Bandpass Box plus Lotsa REAL POWER and they will sing!

Low Tight bass extremely accurate no distortion able to enjoy all different kinds of music with them great design and from what I heard and have seen they are well built

Weakness:

They are hungry for power But is that really a weakness

No sloppy bass here I have the new 10 inch W6v2 2 of them They reproduce a tight bass so accurate that I dished out 700 for them with a box a bit expensive but worth it I tried a few different subs before and all were good Kicker solobaric and Phoenix gold But the W6v2 JLAudio subs blew me away

The sky is limit when you put enough power and the right enclosure to JL Audio

Weakness:

YOU MUST FOLLOW THE SPECIFICATIONS EXACTLY THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE THERE FOR!!!!

Hello I have been a long time fan JL Audio their product has always been revolutionary(as far as 12-volt applications go) for the time. JL practically re-invented car audio sound and performance. With the edition of their Evolution series mids and highs and always dependable sub-woofers JL is a true asset to the car stereo world. I have worked personally with JL and many other popular brands on the market, and I say without a doubt if you want superb sound at s superb price JL Audio is the way to go. As for those individuals who seem to have problems with JL subs not hitting the lower frequencies I suggest you re-evaluate the air-space that you have them enclosed in. Secondly depending on the series you have purchased be sure to power it adequetly. Finally as far as a muddy sound......check your..GAIN...Q-Factor.....crossover point....and sub level. The key to well rounded system is dialing it in, there is a reason you have certain adjustments on your head unit and amplifier. To all of you considering buying JL Audio go ahead, it is a good choice. I have ran JL Audio for five years now and could not be happier. Mysystem includes JL; xr425-cs,xr525-cs, xr625-cs, 2 10w6, 2 12w6, 2 6w0, all running off JL 1000/1,500/1 monoblock digital amplifiers and 2 JL 300/4 monoblock digital amplifiers.

Strength:

Loud, hits very low bass, and price in my case. But i'd spend the retail for these too, they're worth it!

Weakness:

None other than that the dustcap doesn't un-dent easily.

I've read a lot of reviews on JL products on here. Overall, i figured they were a really great company. So when i went down to my local pawn shop, and saw one of these in a Wal-Mart (crappy) box, I knew I had to rescue it. It was in alright condition, except for the dented dust cap. So i hooked it up to my Boss 800 watt amp and played a bass cd with it. I was blown away at how low it went. The whole car just resonated from the massive bass it was puttin' out. Well I got some cash and bought a slot-ported bandpass for it, and WOW. I can actually see my trunk flex 2 inches when the low bass hits. It's awesome. And LOUD. Great with all music, from Papa Roach to Nelly. It never skips a beat, being both accurate, and very loud.

Strength:

good construction. It's dependable and durable. Doesn't need a big enclosure. (ok , I am at least being fair)

Weakness:

sluggish, muddy, not very crisp, over-priced, false reputation

I too have heard so many great things about JL Audio. Everybody wants to use their subs. I'm using 1 of these in 3ohm mono, driving it with an autotek xs900. (mono output from channels 3 and 4 400 watts continual). The sub was installed exactly as the manufacture suggested. The enclusure is very well built. (sealed, 3/4 mdf, .8 cubic feet). Ok, the results. The sub is really not as clean and crisp as I thought it would be. It is what I and all the experts call MUDDY. It only hums it way through the music. I'm using Boston Acoustics for my mids and highs (channels 1 and 2) and they sing out with a sonic euphoria - beautiful. I slowly add in the sub level, and bye-bye musical heaven. You really notice the let down! It plays loud enough, that's no problem. But the tonal response, accuracy, and ability to play loud clearly. Well, honestly left something to be desired. As for pushing it hard, the woofer plays up to about 3/4 volume only. Anything more, it really growls a lot and just basically turns to crap. For the price, I don't recommend this woofer. There are truly much better woofers out there. Don't get this one! Don't be drawn in by it's supposed great reputation!

I have 4 10"JL Audios in two bandpass boxes inside the extended cab part of my truck with a 800x4ch. amp. A friend tried to trade me 2 lanzar 12"s for just my speakers, I have one of the best systems around. It will rattle my neighbor's window 150 yards away just setting in the drive way. I paid $125 for all them from a friend in need of cash. I have had many people try to buy them even one that does competition. So if u dont like them then u havent heard them....my syestem will make ur chest hurt.

Cool Design. Made strong with lots of features and good builing materials.

Weakness:

Overpriced, weak, horrible bass. Lighting Audio Bolt Subs hit harder than these!!

Well I checked out these subs, thinking I was going to hear some really good stuff, but boy was I wrong. I've heard so much good stuff about JL Audio, so I tried these out. They suck! They cant hit the mid or low bass notes, just the high bass notes. That is pathetic, especially for the price. I also tried out JL's supposed awesome JLw7's and boy they suck! Me and my friend checked it out, and it counldnt hit any bass notes, barely the high bass notes. Now for 700-1000 dollars I would expect for the stuff to hit a lot harder. I came in the store expecting to be blown away by bass, but instead me and my friend had to hold back our laughter. We turned up the 700 dollar CD player up to 40 and still wasnt hittin hard. lol. My infinity referance subs hit harder and they are ran on a Baja 400 watt Amp!! And not to mention a lot less money!!! Bottom line: JL audio Subs suck! I dunno know about their componet sets or amps, but there subs suck!

These subs are nothing short of spectacular. My friend has 2 12W0s and they don't even compare to these. I'm running 2 10W6s off a JBL 600.1 and let me tell you, they both rule.
