Strength:

Cost, small enclosure, SPL, looks, durability

Weakness:

Cant compete with the new generation of high excursion subs (Orion hcca, Oz matrix power, Audiobahn AWT, eclipse titanium, kicker L7)...but look out JL is about to unveil their newest 12 inch...

Well what can I say. I have been torturing this 12" JL sub for 5 years. I mean I have TORTURED it. I drove the piss out of it for 4 years with a hunk of sh*t Fosgate 400 watt amp, and recently decided to pump 800 RMS watts into it with a Lanzar Vibe 1200D amp. It hasnt even broke a sweat. I have it in a 1.75 cubic foot sealed box in the back of my little nissan. This 12W6 has pleased my ears and unscrewed bolts in my car for 5 years and is still in tip top condition without so much as a scratch on it. The santoprene surround looks brand new! This poor speaker has been forced to 2 inches of constant excursion every day for 5 years. WOW is all I have to say. I mean, it even survived a hurricane when my trunk was filled with water!!! JL really needs to be complemented on their solid construction of an indestructable sub which sounds really good and can hammer out some serious SPL. This sub will last forever...Looks very nice, requires a small enclosure, and can shake the fillings out of your teeth.

Strength:

Dual voice Coil.....lots of wiring options. Handles lots of clean unclipped power. Can play in the smallest of boxes..... .75 cu ft. Very clean and classic look to it, not too flashy when you open the trunk. HUGE magnet.....nice logo on it too!!

Weakness:

Needs to be crossed over at a very low frequency....mine is at 80, everything 80 and up gets fed to my comps in my front doors.....so my midbass (100 to 250) is basically gone (free-air sucks!!!). Very power hungry....will be hungry if you feed it <150 watts. HEAVY, just two of these in a well built box will weigh down your car noticeably.....less MPG for your car. Pricey.....but if you know the right person, you''ll get the right price like I did.

LOUD and BOOMY, or TIGHT and CRISP.......whichever you prefer, you will get it with this sub if you build the right box, mine is about 1.25 cu ft. I''m not a bass head or a sq fanatic, just a commuter that hates listening to music through crappy speakers. This sub is nowhere near crappy. Feed it power and it will throw out good bass that you paid good money for. $265 ($132.50 each) for a brand new pair.....I guess I got a good deal.

Strength:

deep, low, loud, ported is so much better.

Weakness:

nothing, really, i am pushing over 1000 watts to them and perfectly clean, can''t distort.

I just got done installing my 2 jl-audio 12w6''s in my honda civic in a PORTED BOX, wired to a punch 800A2 wired at 1.5 ohms. All i have to say is wow, guessing around 150db''s. I had 3 in a sealed before and this system is so much louder, cleaner, and much deeper. I live in the bay area, so if you want a listen, e-mail me at redbaron80@hotmail.com, also e-mail me if you have any questions or doubts about 12w6''s by jl, would never get anything else, hey just get a listen from me, and you will be convinced.

12w0''s, good for a 1st system, but get 12w6''s or 12w3''s, botyh are great, especially the 12w6 ported or sealed.

Model Reviewed: 98 Malibu

Strength:

Everything about this sub is awesome. I have never heard a louder sub. I have three 12W6's in the trunk of my 98 Malibu, powered by a soundstream1002 rubicon and a 15 farad alumapro "CAP". People sometimes get sick when they ride around in my car. My gf can here me for miles when I am coming over. One time I was driving and a ice cream truck was next to me so I pulled up to the side of him at the light and he told me that he thought something was wrong with his engine because the whole truck was rattling and shaking so bad. Another time I was behind some senior citizen and she jumped out of here car and tried to yell at me, but obviously I didn't hear her. Then she proceeded to try and hit my car on the freeway! These speakers are not for the weak of heart because they will blow your mind. The lows are unreal and the highs are so crisp and clean. The W6 is ideal for everyones listening taste. When you buy one or three like myself and break them in, every time that you get in your car and turn on your stereo you will get moist!!!

Weakness:

none, people might say the price but they are worth every dime!

I would recommend this speaker to anyone who is trying to put together a high end car stereo system. Maybe you want to be known for the loudest stereo, maybe you want them to pick up hotties(it works), or maybe you just want the cleanest best sounding system out there. JL audio has done it once again and created a diamond.

Strength:

SQ, small size but plays like a bigger sub

Weakness:

durability, build quality

Paid ~$300 for 2 10w6 subs. Had one of the reputable shops here install it. In about 7 months, one had the dust cap loose. It was under warranty and was replaced promptly. The other sub had the same problem with the dust cap but was out of warranty. Dealer had explained that there might have been some batches of the JL Audio subs that had defects with the adhesive for the dust cap. The second one was sent to JL to be repaired. After ~4 months, same problem but didn't bother to fix.

Switched to Image Dyanamics. JL is louder but ID beats it in the SQ department. I've had the IDQ10 DVC for over a year and so far no problems.

Strength:

deep hard hitting subs

Weakness:

I have had no problems

I have 3 JL12w6s (enclosed a must)with a zapco ag1000 amp and 4 MBquart rkc 116 references with a eclipse 32430 4channel, and lightning audio 1.0 farad cap with a redtop gellcell battery, These subs hit so hard, especially with heavy metal, it sounds like someone is hitting my car with a sledge hammer, and when it comes to hip hop, I have so much dynamat in my trunk because it was shaking my (F#####G) spoiler so bad it fell off, and that was tightning it down several times. I know that everybody has there opinion on different subs, I think its what works for you, your car and how it is settup. JL AUDIO ALL THE WAY!

DEEP BASS

Weakness:

NOTHING

OK you ready, i have a 1995 honda civic coupe, with 3 12w6 jlaudio subs in the trunk in a sealed box, powered by a punch 800a2. I guarantee you, you will never find a sweeter sounding sub. I got mine for 170 a piece. DON'T LET ANYBODY FOOL YOU INTO THINKING THE 12W3 IS BETTER, I SMOKED I GUY AT MY LAST SOUND-OFF BY 3.5 DECIBELS. They do not demand a lot of power, 600 should run them fine, i have seen them in other people's car powered by a 1400 watt pheonix gold amp with a cap, and they just pound.

you will lose your hearing after a while, nobody can touch my car off of the sound off arena, guarenteed, they should hit 145-150 depending on your car and set up, power and stuff. clean bass is all i can say, don't port your box if you get three!!! sealed is loud enough trust me

If you have any questions about these sub feel free to e-mail me at redbaron80@hotmail.com

Strength:

Umm....they sound good for the price

Weakness:

blew dust cap off

I had three 12inch w6 in my honda accord , hook up to a Orion HACCA amp putting out 1200 at 1ohm. they sound realy good and loud , until the dust cap pop out one of them. i was under warranty so i had that one replace. Later on , i sold the subs and got two orion hacca 12. They were louder then the three JL i had. The also sound cleaner to. My bro has 2 kiker L7 in his car and its also hits harder then the three jl i had. so hands down , the orion sound are the better subs, I would recomend then to anyone. And the JL w6 are ok , but there is to much hype about them. I sudjest anyone who plan on spending money on these subs , go listen to them at sound comps or in other peoples cars , not the shop. subs set up at shop sound totaly diffrent then when you put them in your car. do some resurch befor you plan on getting JL subs, one last think , don't listen to what people say , go listen to them your self.
