A few weeks ago I was at a local car audio specialty shop picking up a 15W6 (reviewed also) and got the ride of my life. The installation people had just finished a Nissan Maxima, complete with a trio of 12W6s, over 2000 watts of Precision Power amps, MB Quart components, and a full Clarion multimedia setup. This was an extremely expensive, competition-only install that absolutely blew my mind. The subs were wired into a mono 4-ohm load, the MB Quarts installed into custom pods and panels, and a 6 inch LCD screen mounted on the dash center. The system included a VCR in the trunk, so the demo of the day was Armmageddon. I was given the privelage of sitting in the driver seat for the demo. Let me get right down to it and say that this was the most impressive bass I have ever heard, and I've heard a lot. The 12w6s put out more clean low-frequency extension than ANY 18 inch sub I've seen, and all at SPL's in excess of 120db! The installer told me about the measurments taken at the driver's position: F3 of 12Hz @ 115db, over 140db @ 20Hz, +or- 2db from 15hz-20kHz. The sound only confirmed everything he said. I could have never imagined that watching a movie on a 6 inch screen could be so much fun! In the end I would say to anybody looking for a slammin' system, look no further than the JL 12W6.

Strength:

Good musical sub

Weakness:

a little to quiet

I thinm that the W6 subs are great!
some people say that the W3's are better but i think the W6's sound and hit better because they cab handle more watts

Strength:

acurate bass, never wimps out.

Weakness:

nothing

i read some reviews for other subs such as those pesky infinity's, and i can tell you this, it's just a load of BS! i work for an installation shop, so i know my stuff. JL audio's w6 subs are the best subs money can buy, so don't waste your juice on anything else. i managed to break the rear window of my hatchback with only 3 12w6's (it was a bet) so make no mistake, these babies rock. the bass is hard, acurate, and almost never distorts. my advice is, just buy them!

I've had a JL 12W6 for over 2 years now. I originally bought it for my car. I put it in a 1.2 cubic foot sealed box, and fed it 120 watts from a Rockford amp. This baby POUNDS. It goes ultra deep, and is super clean. I sold my car to go to college (go GW), and now have the sub running in my room at school off of a Kenwood receiver. People almost shit in their pants when they feel the bass in my room. The sub has also held up pretty well, considering the beating it has taken. JL made a winner

I purchased a pair of JL 12W6's a year ago to replace a pair of Cerwin Vega free air 12" drivers looking for better extension and dynamics at the expense of the enclosure room. Well I got what I was looking for. Definitely found the extension to a solid 20Hz fundamental of 117db SPL. Up to 123db @ 30Hz, and 129db @ 40Hz in a compact car. Powered by 150W/ch rms and with coils wired parallel for 3 ohms per channel those low end notes are very clean with no obvious harmonics changing the pitch. Clean and clear. Plenty of others can do that and better but many other pretenders cannot do it cleanly. At the asking price of $270 each there is plenty of competition but I only paid $150 each due to an error and because I was the only person who had even expressed interest at my local shop. Everyone shyied away and went towards the W0 or W1's. I am not going to say these are the best subs available or for the price but they are a good choice. They do have long excursion without ever bottoming out. If you seek ultimate definition and clarity they are good but still a little vague. I have them in the recommend A+ sealed enclosure for best extension and definition of 1.25cu-ft. The flexibility of the dual voice coils is a nice feature that makes these driver stand out. You will not go wrong by choosing these boys especially for a relatively small enclosure but I will not rant and rave that they are the best because there is no such thing1 This is however among the best and most worthwhile products available and is worth consideration which cannot be said of many other things on the market.

Strength:

This speaker is has the the clearest and most defined sound i have ever experienced in a Sub. I recently got a MTX8000 and sent it back because i was so dissapointed in the sound quality. THere is no doubt that the 8000 is lounder but the sound quality of the 12W6 makes it worth it. Right now i have one JL 12W6 in a Q-Logic box powered by the MTX thunder amp with a lightning audio cap.(425W).

Weakness:

This speaker has no weaknesses worth metioning because it is the complete package!!!

I had one of my friends help install my stereo, so while i was outside of the garage i heard the bass and the garage just started rattling and shaking. I figured it was his car because he has a car that he uses for competion that has all top of the line components. So, i went inside to actually find out that it was actually my 1 12W6 pounding like crazy. When you sit in my car now you can feel that pounding in the back of your head and back, and you feel like your stomach is about to explode. If you have never had the pleasure to sit in a car with JL Subwoofers in it, our actually even stand a few blocks away, it is truly a genuine experience. The JL 12W6 is a total package, and once you go JL, you will never go back!!!!

Strength:

Very deep bass and sound great.

Weakness:

I blew about five of them but I think it was do to installation problems not subs. I've never seen anyone do it

I had three 12W6's and they rocked. They are easily the best subs I've ever heard in a car. I'm sure some top of the line subs can blow them away but for the money there is no other. If you can afford top of the line JL is coming out with W7's in September which or supposed to set a new standard in sound quality and bass. I used 1001dx Etant amp

I now have three AlumaPro's and JL smashes them. If anyone knows firsthand about top line Audiobahn email jemcbjus6@aol

Model Reviewed: JL Audio 12W6

Strength:

Clear deep and loud bass, Very Long Excursion, Power Handling, Motor Structure, Huge magnets, Stiff Cone, Strong Spider, Small enclosure requirements, DUAL VOICE COIL, I can go on and on but those are the best that I can think of.

Weakness:

.187" terminals, some binding posts would have been better.

This is overall the best 12 inch subwoofer (for sealed enclosures) on the market so far. The sound that this subwoofer produces is cleaner and deeper than others. The motor is strong and handles enormous amounts of power (well over the rated amount). Don't get fooled by the over-rated specs of other 12 inchers out there, this is the best! This is way better than a W3. Get atleast one and you'll understand. JL rocks!!!!!!!

Similar Products Used:

Better than any 12" Rockford/Kicker/Alumapro/Alpine/Phoenix Gold/MTX/Orion/etc. that you can think of.
