Strength:

DEEP growl, very low pitch at idle.
Good feel in horsepower increase.
Vehicle is WAY more responsive.
Isn't ricey sounding at ALL!

Weakness:

it starts at 2.5" then goes to 3"
a little pricey but not that bad

I have heard this exhaust on most vehicles and it sounded good. On my vehicle cause its turbo it sounds AMAZING. The install was simple (had a lift) and for those that might ask, it does connect to a stock cat, get yourself a downpipe *delete the cat* and it will sound great.

Sounds Great Definate HP Gains

Weakness:

Exhaust tips dont are a little offset

The hardest part of this install was gettting the old bolts and exhaust off, after that install was simple. The car sounds great, its not loud but its a deep growl. I'd definetly recommend this exhaust to anyone looking for a great product.

Model Reviewed: Thermal R&D Catback Exhaust

Strength:

Was nicely polished, the laser etching on the exhaust tip was very good.

Weakness:

Poor QC. It was apparent the bends and dimensions were correct when compared with the OEM system. As I stated above, the inlet to the muffler was 3-5 degrees out of alignment in a counter-clockwise (as viewed from rear) direction. This caused the muffler inlet to clear the strut by no more than 1/2 inch. Thus, the system binds against the strut under full throttle or when making a hard right turn.

I put a Thermal R&D catback system on my 2003 Protege 5. The fit was very poor and the pipe barely clears the rear strut. It has already ripped the OEM hanger welded to the frame off twice. A comparison with the OEM exhaust revealed the pipe welded to the front of the Thermal R&D muffler was rotated 3-5 degrees counter-clock wise out of alignment. Thus, everytime I get into the throttle, the muffler hits the strut and binds. I haven't broken the hanger weld a third time, but I'm compelled to drive my car like an old lady (bummer) in order to avoid breaking it again. Dimensionally, the system was acceptable. Thermal R&D just welded it together carelessly - Poor QC. I am VERY disappointed in the purchase and could not recommend their product to anyone. The one redeeming feature - the exhaust note is good. However, I would expect to have a near perfect system and fit after spending $495 plus shipping. If I had it to do over, I would buy the Racing Beat system.

sound is really deep, sounded better on my car then a 2000 Si civic

Weakness:

Only bad thing about this exhaust is that i just got pulled over by the Wisconsin State Patrol, and i had to take it off. Why do the poes gotta pick on young punks, shouldnt they be pullin people over for other things besides my stupid car. Im thinking about putting it back on in a couple months. Oh well its only a $163 dollar ticket if i get caught again.

Great Exhaust, the tip wasnt too big like Greddy or A'pexi are, but i wanted it small so cops wouldnt pull me over

Model Reviewed: Toyota Supra TT

Strength:

-Price -Sound -Hp gains -Quality -The Canaster/Tip shines like a mirror

Weakness:

The only thing that i dislike about the exhaust for a supra is that the opening is very large. I think the tip is 4 or 4.5, which looks quite big on the back of a supra. By all means its not ugly, but simply dosent look as nice as some of the others.

This is the best exhaust out there for the supra. (Excluding titanium). Its not abnoxiously loud, yet at wide open throtle its very "deep loud". The pipes are very straight and needless to say its easy to install, due to the fact its bolt on. Turbo magazine did a review of several exhausts and they found that on their test car, this exhaust gave the most power.

Strength:

Easy to put together, and is exactly what they say, the straightest piping out there.

Weakness:

Reduced to a 2 1/2 inch flange, when i needed a 3" for my downpipe and cat eliminator.

This has to be the best exhaust i have every had, through out the 6 cat-backs i have had, nothing offeres the low rpm roar and hp this does. Sounds amazing running threw all gears and hi and low rpm's.

Model Reviewed: 2002 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V

Strength:

Quality workmanship. Nice deep, mellow sound. No bumps and rattles. Great clearance around suspension. Great customer service!

Weakness:

Not a quiet exhaust for a sleeper car. You will need the resonator upgraded if you have or will get a aftermarket header, otherwise it gets too loud. Tip needs to extend out more. My bumper is charred black slightly above the tip.

The Thermal R&D cat-back exhaust for the Spec V is made with stainless steel 2.25" mandrel bent piping. The unit comes with a resonator and a single large tip muffler. The sound is rated around 87 decibels at 4,000 RPMs. I had this installed during drag racing and road racing. It gets comments a lot on the sound. No "can of angry bees" sound like other inferior cat-back exhausts. It emits a deep, mellow sound. Enough to trigger shock sensors in car alarms.

Quick 200k
Model Reviewed: would apply to years 88 - 01' 1.5 - 2.3 liter Hondas

Strength:

*Strong material *Fair resistance to corrosion (304 stainless) *Nice mandrel bends (consistent diameter throughout, produces great power) *Nice looking tip (if kept clean on the inside)

Weakness:

*Muffler design (mostly steel wool with perforated core and no composites) *Does not suppress high frequency noise well (raspy noise).

Great exhaust system. I would give the craftsmanship an 7.5 out of 10 (it's not the greatest but the welds hold up). The system is a bit on the hefty side since they've used thick material (thats good in terms of strength). The muffler design is not good. I've had 2 thermals so far, and the sound is the same before & after break-in. What do I mean by "break-in"? You will always get carbon deposits inside any muffler over time. It happens much faster, running with no catalytic converter. Some mufflers will still sound good after this happens, the thermal muffler is not one of them. You can start up the car when its newly installed, it will sound nice, quiet, and deep, but over time you'll get more of the raspiness. Inside the thermal muffler is Steel Wool with little or no composites to suppress high frequency noise. Thermal's exhaust tip is tapered from the inside out. The tapered part is what gives the exhaust character looking at it from behind, but it's also the part that gets dirty the easiest. A downside for those who want a low maintenance clean looking exhaust. While this exhaust system produces lots of power (sometimes more than other systems for the same car), I would not recommend it to someone who's looking for a great sounding exhaust.

Similar Products Used:

*Apex N1 (Worse than thermal. So, loud that they supplied a baffle to suppress noise and sufficate power as well.) *Greddy Evo (has the best deep sound)
