Strength:

Well constructed, 3/8" thick CNC machined flange, "Booster Rocket" Y-pipe with equalizer tube, custom gaskets to insure a tight seal, actual power increase, sound, Lifetime Warranty, and 50+ years in the business (they know what they are doing). And customer service is top notch, thanks Marc!

Weakness:

For my installation, the instructions weren't 100% accurate.

This is a review on Hedman's Chikara Hedder with Powerplus Technology (Tork Stepped). I needed to replace the stock manifold and decided to go with a hedder to give my car a little more oomf. And to my surprise it did! I know several people who have installed a hedder (DC Sports and Flowmaster) on their car and all it did was make it raspy/louder and gave it no HP increase whatsoever. But with this Hedman hedder I saw a good 7-10 HP increase over stock. It is also highly recommended to apply a high temp paint to reduce the chance of it rusting out (I applied VHT's 2000 degree manifold and hedder paint and so far no sign of rust at all.).

Similar Products Used:

Driven both a DC Sports and a Flowmaster, not even in the same category.

Strength:

15 to 20 more horsepower and a great sound.

Weakness:

Bad construction

I feel that Hedman did a sorry job with these hedders. First of all, the hedder to head bolt pattern doesn't match. They don't clear the upper A frame you have to bend them yourself. The paint starts flacking right out the box and you can't use your OEM starter.

Model Reviewed: 1991 K1500 Gibson SS Headers

Strength:

Bolted right in with manufac. supplied hardware. No cutting, grinding, or other adjustments of any kind. Stainless steel doesn't require any painting, rust removal, etc. Excellent construction.

Weakness:

Pretty expensive when it comes down to it. However, you get what you pay for.

These were put on a 1991 Chevy K1500 5.7L 4WD with a K&N filter, Hypertech chip with low temp. thermostat, Poweraid TBI spacer, Moroso Blue Max Spiral wire set, MSD 6A ignition controller, MSD Blaster GM HEI coil, MSD small cap and rotor. Otherwise the engine is still stock, i.e. no cam or headwork has been done.(that comes later). Initial perfomance increase is worth the money spent. The power range is excellent. Having already put a Gibson catback system on the truck, there wasn't really a noticeable increase in sound. It sounds good with the catback system. The one issue I have with them is my SES light comes on occasionally. It may just be due to the factory preservative burning off the insides and tripping the o2 sensor. I will have to wait and see. I don't think it is due to back pressure since it comes on randomly at different speeds.

Similar Products Used:

Gibson catback system on truck for 10 years with no problems. So I figured it was time to breakdown and go the whole nine yards.

Strength:

they give some more power more sound and the best part of all was driving down to the muffler shop to get the exhaust welded on

Weakness:

in the year ive had them there has been no trouble no leaking yeah thers rust but i solved it. its a messy process but if done right they wont rust. you have to cure them the same way they do barbeque pits. get used cooking oil and run the vehicle for about 20 minutes at idle and while its running with a paintbrush coat the headers and they will turn black and repell moisture if done right it works

Personaly I think the hedders are great quality my truck gets about 18 more horsepower wich is not bad considering its all bolt on power. I got the regular painted hedders.I also got the copper gasket that makes all the difference in the world the cardboard and metal gaskets witll burn out i assure you these are worth 25 dollars

nothing at all

Weakness:

anything about it is a weakness. Including customer service

This product is not worth the money one pays. Order took 5 month to get here for hedmen. Hedder came out of box with paint flaking. very disappointed in workmanship. Hedder does not fit right causing it to rub frame and causing exhaust leak from between head and hedder. Person who built this one did not care about meeting spec. Hedder don't care about answering e-mails and don't care if you are happy with product or not.

Strength:

Nice power increase. Easy direct bolt up comes with O2 sensor extension instructions. Good Price!!!

Weakness:

Bought painted, until it burnt off within two days. Little rust already but can be solved with a clean up and some high temp paint. O2 sensor needs to be relocated but was easy.....

This is for Heddmans Chikara Tork Step Great header, notice power especially when I can spin them going into 2nd. This is an automatic. Great price for value. I''ll give it a 5-10 hp increase, high end is excellent and with the rest of my exhaust system mods should make this a real good investment.

Strength:

Added some top-end power. Comes on stronger after 3000 rpm. My seat-of-the-pants dyno tells me I got about 7 or so horsepower out of em.

Weakness:

Everything quality related. Came out of the box with peeling paint. Cleaned em up real good and hit em with header paint. NOTE- Plasti-kote header paint sucks. Let it cure 6 times the minimal amount, and it was burning within 15 seconds of firing the engine. Cannot take high temps. The welds were very poor. They overlapped the ports on the flange side by 1/4" in some places. Used a dremal to clean all of it up. The studs were off by nearly 1/4" for the center 2!!!! I had to drill this thing to fit it!! I was SO pissed off, but I needed something to make my truck driveable. Everything that could be wrong with this thing is, and I hate it. Emailed Heddman 3 times and got no answers at all. They just kept asking me what I used it on and all, and I told them in EVERY letter. I will not buy a Heddman product again.

Well, my stock manifold cracked so I needed a replacement right away. I heard nothing but good about Heddman so I purchased their header for my 22RE (#39490). I have to say I am VERY displeased. I know many people that use these on Chevy 350''s and they are great. I think they just don''t care about putting the same quality in ALL their products.
