Strength:

Great power! I dropped a full second in my heavy car for only 2200 dollars.

Weakness:

The pully slips alot! But was easily corrected by applying a grooved pattern. I think it's too quiet...Good for a sleeper, but Id rather intimidate people.

I have a convertable v6 camaro with all kinds of ground effects and other stuff that adds weight. Being a v6 with all the extra crap makes it extra slow. My best stock was a 16.6 in the quarter. After some modding my best was a 16.1. That was just not enough power for me so I decided to supercharge. When I got the bd11a1 I had everything that I needed. The only problem I actually had with the powerdyne was that I had to cut my outlet pipe to make it fit.Took 10 minutes, no big deal. The instructions suck, but the average guy could probaly just look at the parts and put it together. Took about 4 hours. At first I never saw more then 4 pounds of boost off my 6lb pully. Even though the 4 lbs felt good I knew I was getting screwed. Then my stock fuel pump just died on me. Car was dead for a good month. I put in a new high power fuel pump and really cranked the belt down... I still had a hard time maintaining the 6 lbs of boost. I took the 6lb powerdyne pully to my mechanic and had him put a 10 groove pattern on it. The thing runs awesome now! The belt is not even tight and I get 7-9 psi depending on what gear Im in. I took her to the track and confirmed my added power. I went from a best of 16.1 to a new best of 15.1. The powerdyne dropped my 3800 pound car (weight with me in it) One full second! The average drop for us v6 camaro guys with the powerdyne is 1-1.5 seconds so I feel there may be more potential in it. I am very happy with the results from the powerdyne and beleave that if you just get your pully right and make sure everything is ready then you will get good power with minimum disaster. I should have upgraded my fuel pump before I put on the charger. I cant say powerdyne is crap cas I didnt upgrade my fuel system, that was my fault.

Model Reviewed: bd-11a and xb-1a

Strength:

none yet exept the tention pully fit right on my car but no my friens we had to shim it on his.

Weakness:

everything we had to helicoil the tention pully bracket because the holes stripped out.

my friend first got the bd-11a i helped him install it after about 4 miles the internal belt broke. he sent it back powerdyne couldn't tell how it broke. they sent it back with a new belt. worked for 4 miles again broke. sent it back and they sent a new head unit, this one worked for 2 days about 200 miles and the belt broke. the company then upgraded him to the xb-1a we installed it drove it slow for 7 miles then it sounded quieter than before, he hit 8lbs of boost half throttle and let off and the bearing started sqeeling loud we had to take belt off when we took it off the impellar was really bent up bad and the housing was scraped all of the way around we then sent it back again. my friend drilled a hole in the discharge tube for a nitrous nozzle just for looks and when he sent it back he asked for a refund which they were about to do until one of the techs noticed the hole and said they could smell eggs in the inlet tube they said that is what nitrous smells like and he told the owner of powerdyne that he never used nitrous and the owner said yes you did and we will not do anything exept sent the broken one back to you. my friend talked to him somemore and he decided he would send it a brand new one that he would help build himself and make sure it was right and he was also going to send a new discharge tube with no hole in it.my friend decided he had enough and sold it to me and he got a vortech he is happy. when we got the powedyne back the impellar appeared to be offset to one side but didn't hit when spun by hand. the discharge tube had to be cut to fit right on my friends car and powewdyne cut the new one for us and it was almost too short for mind. we installed it on my car but it didn't feel anything like it did on his car. 8lbs of boost at 5500rpm full throttle was very disappointing had it on for 1.5 months just left it on because it was working(or so i thought) went out to race a friend with most of the same bolt on stuff except 100hp shot of nitrous instead of a supercharger. on our way down the street i heard a thunk then flap flap flap..... when i stopped and looked under the hood the pully was half way off the supercharger shaft and the bolt was broken off and missing and my $30 8 rib belt was now a 6 rib. when taking it off the impellar had just barely hit the housing on the top side. i am now waiting to see what they are going to do about it.

I think my car just didnt take well to it. I am going to give it another try when I finsh my new motor hopefully I wont have any more problems.

Weakness:

CUSTOMER SERVICE! CUSTOMER SERVICE! CUSTOMER SERVICE! CUSTOMER SERVICE! CUSTOMER SERVICE! CUSTOMER SERVICE! and the instruction suck.

It took about 6 weeks to get my kit and powerdyne is only about 25 min from my house. The installation was not at all what I expected. The instructions were lacking a lot of information. I got it on correctly according to the instructions. Took it out for a spin with in the first 5 min I burnt up my first set of head gaskets. I called customer service and they were not really any help in fact they treated me like I didn’t know anything. I figured out that my injectors weren’t able to flow the amount need for the 6psi of boost I was putting to my motor. I tried to get it to work for about 3 months and had a lot more problems. Now I am going to build my motors all the right equipment and give it another try.

Customer service, everybody i talk to has an attitude, durability

I thought i was crazy with the costomer service at powerdyne by far the worst i have ever delt with. on my super charger the barings went bad, the belt went and the impeller sprocket went bad. Now there trying to say i changed the pulley size which i didn't so there saying the warrenty is void and charging me $668.00 to fix it. I'm never buying a powerdyne supercharger again. If anybody knows where i might be able to find some of the parts i listed please e-mail me

Model Reviewed: 1996 Mustang GT 4.6 SOHC

Strength:

Can definetally feel more power (no dyno results or boost gauge yet), no oil lines, cheap price.

Weakness:

Very bad instructions, no parts list, poor quality control (bolts that did'nt fit properly, wrong pulleys w/ kit), had to modify "bolt on" stuff. Also, discharge tube's supplied silicone connecting tubes are too short and pop off at high boost sometimes.

I've only had the blower for 3 weeks, wish I would of read some of the reviews on this site before choosing this kit. Hope the belt and bearings last for a while. The instructions were terriable, took about a week to get installed properly. Installed according to the instructions and could not get belt right(was way too long to even begin to tension). I called them and they told me that the belt part# was correct. They did'nt help me much the first call that I made, guy was arrogant and cocky. The next call, I had to ask them to give me the pulley diameters(they should of asked me to measure if they were a good tech!!). I found out that they sent 2 pulleys that were 3" and I needed 2 that were 3.5". They sent me the right pulleys, and belt was still way too long. Had to send digital pictures to their E-mail, to prove that I installed right according to instructions and their pics, and wait for their techs to figure out what was wrong. I ended up having to drill a hole in the bracket larger (shown in the instructions as a blank hole) and move one of the idler pulleys up. It worked in the end, but was nothing like the instruction's pictures. They need to work out bugs w/ instructions and not show inaccurate photos. Hell, they had to figure out how I was supposed to get their "ready to bolt on" kit to work. Also, the two helicoiled holes in the bracket, for the tensioner bolts, did not accept any thread sizes of bolts properly. The SUPPLIED bolts threaded loosly into the holes and would most likely tear out the threads of the bracket when tightened! I had to take out their helicoils and install new ones in the holes. I found two exhaust studs that fit perfectly and installed them w/ locktite. I used nuts w/ lockwashers to tighten the slot style tensioner onto the studs. In my opinion, it was a much better idea using fixed studs and nuts to tighten the tensioner, as opposed to just bolts that thread into the aluminum bracket. Connecting sleeves for throttle body and discharge tube are too short(fit poorly), keep comming loose and leaking. Need to buy longer ones to get a good amount of clamp area. All in all, like the power increase and sounds cool(not as quiet as claimed). Hope I don't have bearing failure or belt breakage like some people.

Worst customer service I have seen, and the quality of the unit is not what I would expect. I'd heard the stories while I was shopping around, but didn't listen.

Have had the Powerdyne for 3 years, and I do very low mileage with the car (les than 7000 a year. The bearings are worn already and I have never over-spun the supercharger. I have left over a half-dozen messages with Powerdyne, and not one call has been returned. Fantastic customer service. The only good thing I can say is that it provides the power they claim - while it works, that is.
