Strength:

If you have or want to get their insurance, read the other reviews. If you are involved in an accident, pray that the other party does not sport Nationwide.

Weakness:

Nationwide does not appear to be on my side. Please, for the sake of the other drivers out there, find a different insurance company!
Failure to pay for the complete repair of my vehicle.
Recalled my rental before the vehicle was repaired.
Not able to keep the facts straight - like who was involved in the accident.

A Nationwide customer rear-ended my vehicle, causing moderate damage to the bumper and underside. Nationwide's initial estimate revealed $1,500 damage - which was upgraded to the auto shop's $1,800 with an allowance for unseen damages. After the car was repaired, the auto shop noticed that the car started to make a lot of noise and found a crack in the catalytic convertor, which may have been caused by the accident.
The catalytic convertor for my car costs $974 and Nationwide refused to pay any more than $700, which certainly would not even cover the cost of the part, let alone the labor. They have also recalled the Enterprise rental even though my car is still unfit to drive.
Furthermore, Nationwide could not keep the facts straight. In conversations, they addressed my father as the driver, the victim, the car owner, and he received all mail regarding the accident. He was not even there, nor is the vehicle his by title. Nationwide even sent a check for $1,500 to us which covered its original estimate. We still have the check even though Nationwide paid the repair shop directly. If we were dishonest we could just cash the check and pay for the remaining repairs.
Even after speaking with our attorney, Nationwide will not budge on its $700 offer, leaving us to pay the remaining $300 plus labor. This issue is not yet resolved, but the remainder of the debacle will be handled underl legal council.

Strength:

Good customer service and auto repair shops seem to get things done quickly.

Weakness:

A little slow getting out to the house to look at the hail damage, otherwise no major weekness

I have had NAtionwide for quite some time now and have had relatively good service. The agent has been very good and quite helpful. I recently had an auto claim after a hail storm and their preffered repair shop had it fixed in no time. The claims adjuster for my home however took several days to get out to look at my home, but once he was there they got everything wrapped up quickly, cut me a check and I was able to get the work done.

lack of communication and taking responsibility for their clients.

I do not have Nationwide Insurance and due to the recent events, I will never! On March 30, 2006 a Nationwide client smashed into my car. He claimed full responsibility for the accident stating that he was not looking and day dreaming. Well I did the song and dance that I was supposed to do in dealing with Nationwide. I had to rent a vehicle since this was my only means of transportation to work. Well the adjuster I spoke to said to deal with Enterprise since that's who they deal with and they accept their bills. Well about three days after the accident the adjuster contacted Enterprise and said that this claim had been settled and that I was to surrender the vehicle on Friday. I had no idea that this was going on. Enterprise called me on Thursday and explained this to me, I told them that I only spoke with the adjuster, but had not settled or signed anything and that I needed a vehicle to go to work. Well, I contacted my insurance company Allstate and they said that they would kick in, but only $20.00 a day. Enterprise charged me over $291.00 b/c Nationwide would only cover so much. Now you tell me how this is far, especially when I was told by one of their reps that's they would cover my rental since this was their client’s fault. And now, no one will return my calls.

hard to deal with.

I had Nationwide insurance for many years. I had never had a claim. One evening there was a hail storm that did damage to my house and car. The claim on the house was handled by the agent and she cut and mailed me a check quickly. The car....is a different story. I took my car to the adjuster and she did her assesment on the car and sent me outof there with all my stuff in a folder. When I got home I looked at it and the check was made out to a paintless dent removal place that there wasn't even one in the town I lived in. I called her back and told her that I didn't want paintless dent removal and the place she had cut the check to didn't have an office in the town I lived in. I also told her that my car was paid for to just cut the check to me and I could take it where I wanted. I recieved another check made out to another body shop. The amount the check was for would only cover 1/2 of the repairs. I called them again. Finally I was sent another check made out to me and the bank that the car had been financed with. The girl at the bank was like, "you car has been paid for for a long time." She couldn't understand why they made it out to them. All of the incidents I just described went on for about a year. The last check the bank endorsed it and just put it in my account. It still didn't cover but 1/2 the repairs.

I like many had nationwide for years. No tickets no accidents nothing. On 11/30/05 I was ran off the freeway and a pole did damage to my car (3,700 worth)when it came to a rest on the side of the freeway.I used one of their preferred bodyshops for the estimate. The claims adjuster said they would repair the vehicle, however someone needed to take pictures of the vehicle before the repairs(protocol they stated).5 days later a man came to take pictures, but began making comments that made no sense "KELLY BLUE BOOK WON'T HOLD UP IN COURT, ETC.", when I stated I knew the retail value of my car to be 8,000.The following day we spoke again at which he informed me my car was a borderline total loss and if I didn't want it totaled I could pay the salvage amount of 1,400(this was all verbal by the way).I then demanded he tell me what he used to determine the evaluation of my car. He said that wasn't his job, however he agreed with the estimate from the bodyshop and would send me his copy. Since he was supposedly only there to take pictures, I became very suspicious. I immediately called the claims adjuster and said I had a copy of his estimate(I didn't though)who then read the notes off the computer stating 3,700 dollars damage and possible further damage.Since it is the job of every insurance company to complete their investigation and determine all damages as mandated by ins code 2695.2(k) pursant to the Fair Claims Settlemnt Practices which they failed to do,I took it to another bodyshop, no further damage was found and began my own investigation into this particular company.I immediately demanded they send me in writing AGAIN what they used in determining the evaluation of my car.5 days later I received a 7 page packet with useless information(recall notices, etc. However, since I pushed the envelope, it was discovered that Nationwide uses CCC VALUE SCOPE CLAIM SERVICES who supposedly hunt for comparable vehicles to determine the market value of your car. Then they take an average of those comparables to determine the market value of your car in your local area. However by California law, the comparables they use to detetmine market value, they have to disclose where the comparables were found(newspaper, carlots etc.)and the telephone numbers. For me they used two dealerships and two private parties as comparables which sold so cheaply (three thousand dollars less than the retail value for my car) which only prompted me to investigate further. CCC VALUE SCOPE CLAIM SERVICES which Nationwide uses stated they physically inspect vehicles at dealerships across the United States which therefore would mean the comparables they used to determine the value of my car were inspected as well. I then called the two dealerships they used who never even heard of CCC VALUE SCOPE CLAIM SERVICES nor were there any inspections.I then called the two private party comparables they used. One phone nunber was diconnected and the other comparable they used had 2,800 dollars worth of body damage and was missing a door!I then called CCC VALUE SCOPE CLAIM SERVICES who said they don't inspect private party vehicles at all.How then can they be determined to be of market value? To all you viewers, Fair Market Value is what it would cost you to purchase your vehicle(make,model,year,mileage,options-excluding all taxes, licensing fees, etc which you by law are entitled to by the way)in your local market area within the last 90 days per the Fair Claims Settlement Practices which I believe every state has and will educate you on everything you ever wanted to know about car insurance. No one can help you but youself, and the Dept of Ins. cannot make them pay you what your car is worth, only cite them for any found violations. This is how I believe Nationwide has been not paying insurers what their vehicles are worth(I fully believe there is more to it than just that).CCC VALUE SCOPE CLAIM SERVICES who Nationwide uses to determine the value of supposedly totaled/comparable vehicles which in my case turned out to be completely false, none of the vehicles were inspected and had significant body damage.I highly doubt I'm the only one.I believe this has been going on for some time. I have full plans to take my matter to civil court based on fraud, deceit with intent to cheat, misrepresentation and suppression of evidence.I have also been collecting names of dealerships throughout California with whom CCC VALUE SCOPE CLAIM SERVICES has never inspected their vehicles as well. If any of you viewers out there have experienced the same thing, please e-mail me at XMusicismylife@sbcglobal.net

Low rates, especially for long-time customers.

Weakness:

Haven't found any.

I have had Nationwide Insurance for 8 years on my car and 2 years on my real property. I have been completely satisfied with their service. My insurance costs are low (950/yr for 2 cars, 2 people). I've had to use the insurance only once, when a flying plyboard hit my car on the highway. I've had no accidents, but due to the plyboard incident, the car required body work. I received timely service from Nationwide, no questions asked. My rates didn't go up either.

Weakness:

Very vague when describing "quality like new parts"

I work in a body shop and was surprised to find out that Nationwide Insurance can put used parts on a 2005 Chevy Cavalier that has less than 3700 miles on the vehicle. All the other insurance companies we have dealt with stated that new parts had to be put on new vehicles unless over 15,000 miles were on vehicle. Has there been a recent change in the laws? I used to have Nationwide for my vehicles and was very dissatisfied with their service and rates. I'm glad I swithched companies. I hope the owner of this brand new vehicle does the same.

Strength:

I can't think of any.

Weakness:

No loyalty. Sleazy management practices.

My experience with Nationwide has until recently been a good one. I mean, I've been doing buisness with them as my auto insurance carrier for almost twenty years and for most of that time I didn't need to do anything except pay my bill. I had been on their good driver list and was given discounted rates because of it. Then came a period of about 9 months where I had two fender bender type accidents and a fairly major collision where I smashed into the back end of an expensive SUV. When my policy was renewed the price doubled. That happened in June of 2004. The office people who sold me the policy said it would stay that high for three years, then it would go down again. Last month (6/2005)when they renewed my policy it went up another $600.00. I called a Nationwide adjustor who told me that not only was my insurance rates going to be higher, they were going to cancel me the following December because three accidents within a three year period of time was unacceptable to Nationwide. I'm a bit bewhildered. As I mentioned I've been a Nationwide customer for almost 20 years. You'd think they would review my history with them over that long period of time before deciding I was a bad risk. Tomorrow I'm going to go buy insurance from someone else. And every opportunity I have, for the rest of my life, I'm going to talk anybody and everybody I know or who will listen into never doing business with that company.

Absolutely none!!!! Nothing is good about this company!!!

Weakness:

Poor communication, Lazy claim adjusters, Poor management, and impossible to work with!!!

I am not a policy holder with Nationwide auto insurance but I was hit by a lady who was driving a rental car and was supposidly covered by Nationwide. This is the second accident I have been in and there was no disputing that the other driver was at fault. We were making a letf turn (double turn) and the car in the inside lane turned wide into me... and the next month was HELL. I was given the number for Nationwide in Tacoma, WA and the transfered me to Oregon, and they transfered me to California. I LIVE IN SPOKANE, WA I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO A CLAIMS ADJUSTER IN CALIFORNIA. Over a period of 30 days I called the adjuster a dozen times to check the status on the claim...recieved 4 calls back saying that he was reviewing the policy to check to see if it covers the accident. The accident happened on 4/5/05 and they finally reviewed the policy on 5/11/05. These guys are impossible to deal with!! On May 11, 2005 I recieved a phone call back because I pulled the insurance comissioner card and was told by a supervisor that my Suburban was not covered. I gave them a piece of my mind, called my insurance company (Geico) to file for uninsured motorist and they will cut me a check by the end of this week (5/20). If you are a Naionwide policy holder of hit by someone who has Nationwide auto insurance I SORRY!!! Don't expect them to do things in a timely manner and definately don't expect smooth communication!!! I would not recomend this insurance company to anyone!!!
