Strength:

Prices were fair and competitive initially.

Weakness:

Repeated renewal policy price increases.

I was with progressive for 10+ years. No problems up until the last 3 policy renewals. With each renewal my coverage costs increased. I was first hit with a 45% increase. I was told it was just due to standard price increases. Then the next month it crept up more and the next even higher. Again, I was told it was just due again to price increases. The last increase was my final renewal. After 10 years I still had the standard safe driver discount, anti lock brake discount. Nothing substantial for being an exceptional customer for so long. I guess the motto here is not to get, KEEP and grow customers.

Progressive, in particular Progressive West Insurance Company, is the BEST !!! I've been with Progressive Car Insurance since April 2006 and I'm considered a good driver. In February 2012 my beloved car was totaled by foreign tourists; a loss that turned me into a stressed-out, emotional wreck. Thankfully, I was assigned the BEST CLAIMS REPRESENTATIVE anyone could ever wish for. From the start, he showed great compassion, was very patient, very supportive, and extremely effective. During the 6-month ordeal, he came through for me time and again, no matter what. I consider myself very lucky and privileged to have had my case handled by such a caring and knowledgeable person. I have finally been able to find peace again. J.F., THANK YOU SO MUCH - YOU ARE THE BEST!

My Daughter was the Victim of a Hit and Run. A Criminal Offence. The police caught the person within hours. Upon notifying PROGRESSIVE she was told It MIGHT not go against her and she would have to pay the deductible. This is ridiculous!!! They do anything they can to NOT pay out. Here is a case where they have a crime, the perpetrator’s name and address yet they want their client to Belly Up. Unbelievable, I had recommended NOT going with an impersonal online company because of this very reason. They should be shut down. I contacted Both Brian the “ONLINE REP” and his boss Kelly and was told tuff. So now you know the cost of saving 40 buck a year in premium. $250.00 deductible, which you pay, whether it’s your fault or not. Even if a crime (HIT AND RUN) is committed, they do not care. You still PAY. Save yourself this aggravation and deal with a local rep that will go to bat for you and also supports your community.

Progressive Insurance is the worst insurance company in the country. The underwriters are idiot they do not know how to read a CLUE report. They owed me thousands of dollars bcause there underwriters could not understand a CLUE report. Progressive charged me double the monthly payment. and tried to take it out of my account. Do not take their coverage, they will steal from you, they will not admit that they are wrong. The Government should put them out of business.

rate increases for no valid reason

Forget the loyalty... my rates have continuously increased the last 3 years a few dollars a month and then jumped $12 monthly this last renewal period. I have all the discounts: 5+ years with same company/insurance, multi-car, no accidents/tickets last 5+ years, same cars (all old, newest 2001), same driver and usage, have anti-theft on 2 cars, have electronic monthly pymt from checking acct and paperless billing, etc.
So when I called to find out why my premium had increased, the reason given was that my “credit score” had gone done a little. I have never been late on anything and they are raising my rates based not on my driving record (perfect), or on vehicles (old), or on claims (none) but on something not related at all to my ability to function as a safe, loyal driver. Because I bought a house in 2009 and have 3 credit cards (Kohls, Homedepot, Chase) I am being punished by Progressive for using credit I am qualified for and pay off quite regularly. So Progressive's thinking is: if the client is stretched out a little in credit, lets charge them more so the hole can get deeper. Not reward them for being the “perfect” customer.

Don't pay when there is acccident and it's their clients fault. Just gives the run around and no payment. There are an awful company.

Company says in their ads that they care about customers. What a joke!!!

PISSED!!!

These people suck, like big big big time...!!! i have been their customer since years now n i decided to add my wife as well on my list..i was told that i would not incur any additional charges when i add my spouse.. n today wen i called to do so, the rep says tht it is not possible and directly doubled my premium!! inspite of reminding her that i was told that i wouldn't have to pay alot, she said, " this is all i can do for u.. if u r still interested!!" seriously?? these people seem to be paid for their rudeness n not for helping the good old customers.. i believe they are only concerned with new customers and come up with fake speeches to lure them and thats about it!! they don't care once u r trapped!! bloody liars!!

I hit a Sign with my truck and called my progressive, they sent me a tow truck which pick my truck up and ran my company trailer into the sign 3 times incurring damages of 2900$. called progressive filed a claim was told that next day would get a call by claims rep, claims rep called and sent me a email I couldnt down load called claims rep back 7 times all got answering machine left a message explaining how I needed the file format changed, no calls back got 1 week and 3 days later I called and complained, got a call back and was told they needed ME to go get a estimate and pictures taken and sign and send email back. I explained by email that I couldnt download email, got reply email was not attachment, next day got email saying that due to my not responding to what progressive wanted the claim wouldbe closed, called in anger and explained to another claims rep what happend she sent me to another claims rep that changed the format and was told that the lady in which I i had talked to closed my claim and left to vacation and wouldnt be able to do my claim till the following tuesday, Tuesday got a call was told my claim was sent to agero Road side, Road side called and said they would be back in contact in 1 to 3 days I waited till the 3 day after 1,, I called them and wass told I would be called in 3 hours waited till 4:50 got answering machine called 3 times not a call back, called progressive claims rep back and was told she did her part, and she would call roadside again,, till now I am losing customers I'm losing my company.. any Lawyers want a Job callme 404-942-9261, leave me a message or I will not call back. I am ashamed to tell people that progressive is my insurence now. I will have to apologize to everyone I've bragged to about my insurance. I thought the world of my insurance thought they would used better companys to take care of theyre customers.. Pathedic!!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

Excellent customer service. Never have a million phone prompts and have never had to wait for service. I press the number for service and I immediately have a friendly voice asking who they have the pleasure of speaking with.

Weakness:

None I have expeirenced so far.

After seeing the reviews on this page I just had to put my two cents in. I will admit I am an Insurance Agent. An Independent which means I choose who I represent and who I will not. I would choose to represent Progressive any day. After reading the things that were mentioned in the reviews it is very clear to me that the Insurance Agents who sold these customers the Progressive policy did not do their job. I get SO frustrated when I meet people who had a claim and then found out that they did not have the coverage that they needed. I could not sleep at night if I did not take the time with each and every person I quote or write insurance for to explain each coverage that they can purchase and what the importance of each coverage is. I have actually not offered to write policies to people because they didn't have the time to talk about what the coverage did for them, they just want to get what they need and go about their day. I love what I do, my sole desire in my job is to make sure when I hand someone a policy it will protect them and their family no matter what happens. If someone decides to not take a coverage due to price, I completely understand, but I will never let a customer of mine not purchase a coverage until I have explained what it does for them. My heart goes out to the individuals who have had a bad insurance experience. If Agents took the time to educate their clients and not just slap a policy together, take the money and go on to the next person you would not be reading stories like these. I am not in this profession to sell people coverage they do not need to pad my pockets. I believe that if I do what is right for the customer, find out who they are and determine what they need then I am successful. I worked for a very large name brand insurance agency who prides themselves on being "Responsible". For those of you that know what company I am refering to, they are a wonderful company. I chose to become an independent agent because there was a lack of job availability in the city that my Mother lives in with that company and she is getting older and I wanted to live closer to her to take care of her. It was very hard to leave my company but family comes first. As for Progressive they are a good company. When a person has a claim and they do not get the compensation that they expected it isn't necessarily the insurance companies fault. The coverage is available, the Agent that sells that policy needs to make sure that they have understood their customers needs and given them the right coverage for that person. I am sorry to those who have had a bad experience. I wish I would have been your agent before the claim happened.
