My truck has alot more power, i can burn the tires for a long time now. I recomment this carburetor to anyone.
Weakness:
none yet. As soon as i bolted the Edelbrock Performer Series carb on it made a world of difference. It had alot more power and was better on gas too! I really love the looks of this carburetor. Similar Products Used: Stock Carb. |

Very responsive carb. Looks good. Easy to adjust and install, and modify. Techline very helpfull and even sent me a owners manual
Weakness:
After sitting w/ no fuel floats tend to bend and flood engine. minor adj. required. It may need a fuel psi. regulator. Nice looking carb, ran well after it sat for 1 and half years. doesn't have electric choke. It my best investment yet :) Similar Products Used: Rochestor Quadra-Junk, |

Strength:
Finish stays bright and shiny for years. easy to tune.
Weakness:
My only complaint it the auto choke. my second has a manula choke and I like it better. Well I have owned many holleys and all of them performed poorly. I have now owned my Edelbrock for over 3 years and have had not one single problem. About a year ago I bought another and put it on my truck and have not had any problems with that one either. Most of my friends run holleys and they always seem to be readjusting idle mixture and float bowl settings, almost monthly. My brother bought one recently also and he likes it better than the holleys he has had too. I am not a holly hater it's just from my experience I have had better luck with Edelbrocks. Good power off the line.
Weakness:
Bad mpgs.13 with the Qjet.10 with the Edelbrock 600 I replaced my Qjet on my 1981 Chevy 4x4 with a 600 man. The difference tremendous. The throttle responce was great compared to Qjet. Had no problems with bumps of slight angles.Bought a Edelbrock 800 to replace this one. More power. |

Strength:
Looks good. Easy bolt on performance. Reliable.
Weakness:
Haven''t found any yet. I have read some of the posts saying these are bad carbs and rich rich ect. This does not apply at all in my case. I rebuilt my engine (69'' 351w bored .040, 9.5:1 compression, edelbrock cam, edelbrock intake) and had a Holley 4160 600 cfm vacuum secs on it. I didn''t like it at all. The secondaries were unrealiable. I bought the edelbrock 600 cfm, bolted it on, and oh my god!!! The potential power was released. The carb required absolutely no tuning for my application! Strength:
It is easy to tune, and the upgrades come in a set that is already preplanned for leaner or richer conditions. And the website(which contains extensive instructions)is great.
Weakness:
none really other than the electric choke doesen't adjust all that great. When I bought my truck, it had a 350 olds rocket and a 700cfm holley on it. that motor blew and i built a 79 305 HO sb to replace it. I thought that I could transfer the holley to this new motor and it would work. It did not the holly was a pain to change jets, kept blowing power valves, and leaked all the time. I now have a 600cfm performer which works great. It is easy to tune, and looks good.Oh, and buy the way, all carbs have to be tuned per application. To the gentelman above whom dogged hte performer!!!! It's also great for the budget governed hot rodder! Similar Products Used: there is nothing that really compares to it considering all the good areas that everything is so easy to tune. |

Looks nice, ran well when it didn't give me crap
Weakness:
Leaked all the time. I went through two of these and another rebuild before I learned my lesson. It leaked so bad out of the throttle shaft it pooled up on my intake manifold. Thats not to safe if you ask me. Changing to the new Holley Street Avenger. Going through 2 edelbrock carbs in 2 years does not make me see edelbrock as a good carb manufacturer. I should have just gone with the classic holley in the first place. If you are considering a edelbrock, don't. I swear that they will screw you over in the long run. Similar Products Used: Holley Street Avenger blows the thing oiut of the water. I wish I would have never bought the stupid thing in the first place. |

Strength:
Ease of use, tuning
Weakness:
jet kits pricey Good carbs, I run a model 1407 and a model 1406 on my various cars. Easier to setup than a Holley, easier to rebuild than a Rochester, Holley or Thermoquad. Good power, good mileage, easy tuning, no leaky fuel bowls. Only wish it had an adjustable secondary airdoor ala Carter AVS/Thermoquad. Similar Products Used: Holley, Rochester, Thermoquad |
