its everything it was built for. stock to slightly modified, fuel economy in mind

you have to tune if your over 1000ft. or have motor mods. we are car people who cares. that is roddin. you cant tune buy a stocker and edelbrock

ITS A GOOD CARB. it is built for stock to mild performance, with gas miledge in mind. i have a 71 shortwide chevy. i just bought the truck. it has a semi race motor i will replace with a full race at a later date. for now i want it to run stong without spending alot of money. so i donated the edelbrock to our land field. i bought the 750 avenger$220 then a holley modification book for $12,i then bought a secondary metering block $25 off ebay,$2 high flow screws,$3 for vent baffels. I then cut off the choke tower. put #80 primaryjet,installed metering block#86 secondary, lightest spring, and 37 squirter,played with accelerator pump cam. A little tunning up and down the road, timing ajustments. trouble with not enough fuel at idle. drilled idle circuit .002 bigger. perfect!! I have $270 into a carb i will run for one season, it runs hard. if your a hotrodder want your car to run fast without a lot of money do what i said. or if you have money, and a motor your gonna keep have a carb buight for your engine.BPTcarbs@allvantage.com is who i use for parts.they build carbs too. that is who will do my race carb on my next motor. if you have a race car buy a race carb. Idle screw sucks choke sucks Wets plugs fouls em jets suck Basically with my expierence with this carb id reccomend something different

Bought it for 225.00 from ebay used but was told ran like new.. Built motor started it up ran good with the choke disconnected. Finally accouple of days i got choke hooked up..then all hell broke loose... Powervalve went bad, wetted my plugs...flooding the motor....Everytime id punch it and then stop the motor would die......Fouling my plugs... Finally took it to get rebuilt... 175.00 dollars later, guy said the carb was totally messed up (that makes it 400.00 alrdy invested) then accouple of weeks later everything starts up again, foulding plugs, dying everytime id punch it, throttle got stuck so it never return all the way, then when i would punch it and stop it would nearly die or spit and sputter die and start right back up so it wasnt flooding, and the idle screw did not work, it stayed at a high idle and never would go lower....Took it to a another carb shop, they told me jets were to small, replaced them with larger ones.. they re tuned it....($80.00 hard earned dollars later 480.00 dollars so far SHOULD of got a new DEMON!).picked it up WORKED great motor sounded healthy and mean idle was perfect.....week later puch it and let off it would start to spit and sputter, returned to the carb shop, got it out, lost my Beutiful idle they advanced the vacume adjusted the choke... worked fine... Week later... Punch it and when i would stop my car would spit and sputter at 400rpm...Finnaly diagnostic the promblem and when i would release the throttle it would return tooo far and get stuck so it was basically closed and ud have to put some force on the pedal to get it unstuck which would result in the car leaping foward and dying...not the best thing to do at a redlight.....only did it after the motor would get warmed up tho... tryed adjusting the idle but again the idle screw never worked...The Choke would stay onw ay too long when i would start it up, so the idle was like 2000 rpm even after the motor was 170 degrees...id have to mash it a few timess to get the idle at 1000, then after driving it around for awhile my idle would drop to 400 and the car would feel like it was about to die and make a cry for more fuel... I Hate this carb im fixing to buy a 725 demon...dont ever buy a carb off ebay if it is used, thats why they sold it cuz it sucks......im going to try to disconnect the choke so maybe it would work.... so F-!! I hate this carb ive had so much stress with this carb its un real..its always tuning tuning money money tuning tuning on this carb, this is the heart of the prombelm, but i need the money to get a new carb but being 18 working full time low paying job doesnt help a bit!

Need better Quality control at the factory to check if the carb really runs out of the box for 500 + horsepower engines, mine didn't work well, but did after exstensive tunning. I should have bought a Pro-Series

I have a 73 mach 1, I put a biult 514in engine,big lift hyd. cam, Edelbrock RPM heads, RPM manifold, I figured I might end up with 500 + horse power, So I bought the 870 avenger. It needed some major adjusting. Out of the box the choke ajusting screw lever was bent and made the throdle get stuck, carb had to come off to ajust.I also needed to by another gasget at the auto store ,last minut and that always sucks, o.k. now the choke lever was sticking the red plastic one so the carb had to come off again. Yea, Just bolt it on and run, Well after that I speced the whole carb out to make sure there was not any other problems. Reajusted the carb. third time the charm, put it on and it fired first crank. Then neded some fule pump cam changing,squirters,and jetting and ran o.k. considering the choke drama. next I broke in the cam, broke in the engine then time for supper tunning. High speed runs needed bigger jets, change of power valves, and lightest to the lightest vaccum secondary spring. runs even better now but not perfict. Seams like the choke is killing some power just a notion. so, I took the choke off, wright, I found some more power topend and better idle too. It start just fine too. worm starts are better than before.

idle fuel control poor! clear sight plugs for float fuel level adjustment fog and soften with exposure to fuel! poor quality gaskets.

i've been adjusting carbs for 15 years on the road and seas. never had a problem with holley, until now! this 670 avenger is a poor carb for idle fuel control! wets plugs all the time at idle. Can't see extra fuel dripping in anywhere, from bowls, jets or power valve. i'm told that the plating on these carbs is because they failed the casting pourosity test! bad casting and charge premium to plate the carb! even the clear sight plugs react to fuel and fog over in the bowls to adjust the float level! give me a good brass plug to adjust it any day! And what's up with the poor quailty gaskets lately? tear way to often when rejetting. my trick has been to use Chapstick to coat the gaskets and prevent sticking to the bowls and body. still a bad paper gasket... and expensive to replace! tried to contact holley direct, the carb has a life warranty. foned and e-mailed, no help. Give me a Proform billet aluminum carb at 750 cfm any day! Makes my built baby 340 Challenger run with the big blocks! Yes 100 dollar premium price over the holley, but it's worth it! Holley's quality has suffered since being bought up by it's parent company.... they used to be the carb to beat. now they are getting beat...

I've heard ghost stories of how hard is to adjust the float on these Holley Carbs and i've recently build a big block 350 to the best of its ability and heard that Holley's we're the best to get for maximum performance. I was however unaware of the vast adjustments that are needed in order to get maximum horsepower and torque out of the motor. I've always believed that the Carb. is the heart of a motor or engine if you will, now i just need to learn how to fine tune it. Street Avenger 770 Bought this carb for a highly modified street 355 C.I. Small Block. Carb works wonders. It was a bolt on and go installation. I never even had to change jets once. This carb works sweet.
