DC Sports Intakes Intakes/Filters

DC Sports Intakes Intakes/Filters

DESCRIPTION

The DC Sports Direct Air Charger is a sure fire way to improve your Honda or Acura with dyno tested bolt on performance. Because it takes more than just bending some tube to build a good intake, we spend countless hours in the R&D department to ensure that our parts work as we claim.

Strength:

Definitely dresses up engine compartment
Loud. Especially after 4000RPM's and at full throttle.
VERY easy to install.

Weakness:

Loud. Especially after 4000RPM's and at full throttle.
Gets VERY warm; wondering if this is attributable to hot weather performance losses.

I paid $160 for the DC Intake. When I bolted it up at a friends shop, I was half excited and half horrified by the sound! A couple of buddies have referred to my car as "the bog box" or "hoover".
This was the very first mod I made to the car; quickened throttle response. Definitely a fun addition to the car, but I think I'm going to replace it with an AEM system(reduction of noise/temperature.)
K/N filter is easy to clean.

Strength:

Good Workmanship, Easy install, Gives a deep clean sound, not a cheap vacuum cleaner suction racket. Once you hit about 5K AND VTEC engages it comes to life with a noise that makes you feel better than ecstacy.

Weakness:

None

This is in my opinion the best intake on the market. It's not too expensive, and is quality made to fit your car. It gives your car a very deep aggressive tone.

Strength:

build quality and simple installation.
Sounds great.

Weakness:

Intake becomes hot without the extension, and you can feel the loss of power due to the hot air its sucking in. Not so good when your in stop and go traffic, especially when it's 90 degrees out.

Nicely finished, I was impressed with how simple it was to install. It gave my car a much more louder sound, and power was increased. You can especially feel it on the highway.

Can't compare, first product I tried.

Strength:

Let's face it. It is fairly inexpensive and very simple. You want more air in your car, so you take off the restrictive crap the factory gives you and you bolt on a direct pipe with some tye of filter. I look at it as a polished piece of aluminum with a K&N Filter on it. You can't realy screw that up. I will admit, the civic is a perfect set up, as there is plenty of room fo the system.

Weakness:

Not much. If you don't like the filter, put something else on. It does get kind of hot, but no more than carbon fiber would. Biggest problem is install. Though not required, it is a good idea to remove not only the existing airbox and filter housing, but also the lower air box, which is a pain for a first timer. It is also noisier, but I have raced cars for years and with some exceptions, FAST cars are LOUD. Sorry.

Speaking only for the Civic, this is a great way to go. The product is well made, dealer supported, and simple. I like it and I would suggest it to anyone.

Stock, of course. Noticeably different. I've used everything including forced induction and open throttle air boxes. This is cheaper, and did I mention it is cheaper.

Strength:

Deep throaty sound.
Filter made by K&N.
Looks great.
More power high end.

Weakness:

Scratches easily.
The Polished Aluminum heats up easily.
Possibly loss of low end power.

Doesnt really feel like a whole lot of HP, but there is no other intake I would choose except maybe AEM Short RAM.

Stock. No one likes the stock box, but it does the trick. I keep the DAC, cause of the cool sound.

err...too loud?!?
what else?

Excellent intake on Accord especially you are looking for ultimate "loudness" from your muffler. I can't wait until I get my DC-Sports Cat-back system.

Strength:

When joined with the DC Cat-Back system these 2 items are like peas & carrots. Intake looks nicer then pics on the net show, sound for me is a definate must and this intake provides it once above 3500+ rpms.

Weakness:

Instructions to install are the worst cause they dont tell you where to mount the bracket, other then that stock air box was easy to get out and it only took me 15 min to put the actual intake in but fitting the bracket made the project take an hour.

I am a guy that likes loud sounding imports so with my DC exhaust and this intake I was very happy with sound but when my SOHC vtec kicks in at 5000+ rpms then my ride really begins to roar, with those combinations the intake adds to both performance and sound. The only thing I have wanted to do is replace the K&N filter with a AEM filter or Monster Flow. I didnt notice any power response until I started racin my car on the streets more and had the pedal to the floor, intake remains quiet at idle and regular driving but when you hit the gas its decibal mayhem.

Since this was the first intake I purchased cant really compare it but since I recently had it stolen like 2 days ago I might purchase again or go for something else

Model Reviewed: 1996 Honda Prelude VTEC

Strength:

Looks great! Gives the engine a great sound and is an easy installation. Noticed a very small gain in power.

Weakness:

The instructions would confuse almost anyone, and the location of where to mount the support bracket is impossible to find. The gain in power is nothing near what DC claims, and I converted mine into a CAI with a 13 dollar piece of plumbing hardware.

I paid 180, and would certainly not buy this product again if I knew what I was doing. I got this when I was first getting into the import scene a few years ago. Now, I would get a weapon-R carbon fiber intake and have a custom extension made to grab cold air instead. The big power, as always, is in forced induction though.

Similar Products Used:

I've seen cars with almost every type of intake imaginable, and the DC sports looks like one of the best. The AEM cold air intakes provide better gains in power, but often the location of the filter in the fenderwell is subject to water bombardment.

the d.a.c. looks beautiful when you pop the hood, and sounds great when your at 4000 rpm.

Weakness:

took alot longer to install than it should have due to poor instructions you just have to keep playing with the mounting bracket until you get it right.

you wont feel that big of a performance gain but for 170.00 (shipped from nopi) it makes my little 1.6 roar as if it were a true sports car!
