Iceman Intakes Intakes/Filters

Iceman Intakes Intakes/Filters

DESCRIPTION

The Iceman Cool Air System. From the time it was first introduced, the Iceman Cool Air System has generated a lot of interest both here and abroad, and much discussion relative to its merits. The Iceman Cool Air System delivers up to 66% more horsepower than our closest competitor. It brings you closer to 100% efficiency because it provides the coolest intake air and highest mass flow of any system on the market. It provides cooler air to your engine because it maintains the intake air almost at ambient temperatures throughout the system due to the material used. Crosslink polyethylene has the lowest thermal conductivity rating of any single-layered moldable material available on the market today.

Strength:

I liked the fact that it is made out of thermoplastic and does not conduct or absorb as much heat as aluminum intake pipes. Also, the fact that you have a choice of different colors is very nice, considering the quality and some other quality intakes you don't have a choice of color. I liked the fact that it uses a progressive intake pipe, being it is large on the intake side and gets gradually smaller to increase air velocity. Also that it requires little modification to the car to take advantage of it's cold air feature, and gave a decent horsepower gain across the powerband. It also makes a nice sucking sound when at full throttle you can hear the power.

Weakness:

The fact that it is still plastic, and not shiny or flashy like some others and the fact that I believe a couple of the bends in the pipe could have been made at a 45 degree angle and not at the 90 degree causing a little interuption in the air velocity to the throttle body. I believe the kit may have been able to use a larger air filter element than the one supplied. Also, there is a connector that you have to use to connect two of the pieces in the middle of the pipe, I believe this could have been eliminated and molded the way it was without having to use the connector.

I paid $186.00 at the time I bought it which was roughly 14 months ago. There was currently a shortage of them from the factory at the time and many distributors were out of them or had much higher prices. I paid the $186 and got it in a week. I would definetly recommend it, it is definetly a contender against those ceramic coated intakes. If you are looking for performance matched with the "ceramic coated" intakes as well as color and style I would get it. If I had the choice with a future car I would buy one for that car as well. Gave a good "bang for the buck" as far as engine modifications and value is concerned. There are only a couple intakes out there were spending your money on and this is one of them.

I have used a K&N replacement filter for the stock airbox and this ranks much higher than just a replacement filter, both in looks and performance.

good color, nice design, makes a cool sound, easy to install, easy to switch from street to comp., or comp. to street.

Weakness:

Tubing not often cold, performance gains not so high, not enough low and high end power.

paid 180 and sold it for an aem. i would AEM over Iceman. Iceman works great on neons though.

Strength:

Good throttle response and sounds awesome around 4-5000 RPM's, cheap power!

Weakness:

Comp. kit is at the lowest point of vehicle, so it can get wet from the rain and SNOW.

I paid about $215 and would recommend it for an increase in horsepower and a deep sound.

Strength:

Very lightweight material, fits well and looks nice under the hood (blue). Ability to change position of the filter is useful in wet areas.

Weakness:

Installation (competition) requires removal of right fender liner although instructions say remove front bumper which is more difficult and details aren't given for that.

I paid about $200 total, and i recommend it since the manufacturer has excellent customer service. It helps high end performance a lot, although getting smog checks has become more risky. There is an intake whine below 3000 rpm.

Improved throttle response.HP gains through rpm range.Aggresive sound, can hear the air whooshing through

Weakness:

Filter extends to low (3 inches )Below lowest point of vehicle

A little to expensive for materials and innovation used to design it.You are paying for hp gains not for the materials or research but does provide one of the best bolt on hp gains for the money

Strength:

I was kinda skeptical at first cause well...the things plastic. But man it rocks! HP went up, Throttle response went up, aggressive tone is always a nice extra.

Weakness:

Just like any other cold air intake you gotta watch out for deep puddles.

Its all good with this intake. From now until 3/31/01 you can get it at JCWhitney.com for $142.95 for a 95-99 Eclipse NT with free shipping. So if you've got an Eclipse and thinkin about giving it a shot, this is your opportunity. I would be very surprised if someone has found one for less than this price. Check it out. A+.

Strength:

Adds a much throatier sound,a deeper growl to the way your car sounds, good power increase, can switch it from cold air to short ram for rainy days, short ram isnt as short as other short ram intakes

Weakness:

thermoplastic doesnt look as good as aluminum intakes

Very nice intake system one of the best, if not the best, intake systems on the market, it would be a very close comparison with the AEM intake system but my friend has an aem and we felt our intake tube after a short trip, the aem was hot allmost untouchable while the iceman was just normal temp, not hot at all the thermoplastic really helps to ge the cold air to your engine, only reason i gave it four stars is because now i have enough recources to make my own cold air intake for a cheaper price which will perform just as good... i really recommend this intake

Similar Products Used:

sounds a LOT better than stock intake
aem intake costs a lot more and most resources find iceman to work better b/c of thermoplastic

I'm very pleased with this intake... not so much of a "cold" air, but the open design provided much quicker response times. Also added a noticeable growl to engine when accelerating.
