Falken ZE-502 ZIEX Tires

Falken ZE-502 ZIEX Tires

DESCRIPTION

These ultra performance tires take driving to a whole new level. Extra wide, straight grooves, combined with twin traverse grooves provide excellent wet performance, water disbursement and help prevent hydroplaning. Twin straight rib design enhances handling, while A.P.P.L.E.-designed noise treatment helps filter out road noise. Rim protectors guard against friction on wheels, and a dual tread compound provides split-second response and grip.

Strength:

Very stable in high speed corner, and when passing due to it's slow

Weakness:

The ZIEX does not perform will in slow speed corner, my car will slide all four of them!!, or suffer with massive understeer. After I put back a set of Toyo back on my car the problem is gone with a hint of oversteer at the limit.
Extremely slow response(turn in)

I will not recommend to anyone, since Nitto or Yokohama made better tires in similar price range

Strength:

very good dry performance, cornering and stability. good wet condition as well. cheap! (not performance now)

Weakness:

hard ride at the beginning. doesn't have enough grip at the get-go, has to be easy with the throttle.

I have to say these tires exceed my expectations based on what I heard and gathered from the internet. They corner much better than my previous Bridgestone RE930. I feel the car is well planted or glued to the pavement giving me that confident feeling. They track directionally better as well. The noise emitted from these tires is also considerably less than the RE930. However, the ride is rougher on the Ziex than the RE930, probably due to the harder rubber compound. I get used to it now. Overall in dry condition, the Ziex is very good and better than the RE930. In the wet condition, I have to give the RE930 a slight edge over the Ziex. Because the Ziex doesn't seem to have enough that epoxy grip to keep me from the spinning the wheels at the get-go. But once I'm on my way, these tires do a very good job of evacuating the water just as good as the RE930. So I give the RE930 a tat over the Ziex here. Now for snowy condition, it's still in the 70s degrees here. So I can't say anything yet. However, I'll update. So far, these tires are the bang for the bucks with very sporty performance. I paid $300/4 tires including mounting, stem valves, balancing, etc. This is 1/3 less than Bridgestone. I hope the Ziex will last for 60,000 miles as it claims if not as long as the RE930 which I got around 78,000 long miles! and still had some decent treads left. However, I am for performance and save a few bucks along the way that's why I switched to Falken.

Strength:

Very smooth and quiet ride even on the highway at 'passing plus' >:) speeds. The vehicle corners well and overall handling seems to be a bit tighter on the turns than before. Additionally, they handle MUCH better than my other tires in wet conditions. My vehicle does not hydroplane near as much as it used to and seems to brake much quicker on wet roads. The tire does a great job of dispersing water on the road and keeping the tread to the pavement.

Weakness:

Nothing so far. Will make sure to report back if any problems arise.

First of all I must say that I find it laughable that people review tires by the way the tread pattern looks. If you are looking at the tread pattern then you must be standing outside of the vehicle and are not inside driving it. Who cares if the tread pattern looks like the back of Hillary Clinton's thighs as long as it keeps the car in the control of the driver. (Well, maybe Bill might....but I doubt it. )Nuff said about that. : )

In choosing these tires I researched Pirelli, Yokohama, Dunlop, Bridgestone, and Goodyear. I drive A LOT...in varying conditions. I am concerned more with a smooth ride, good cornering, and best of all maintaining control of the vehicle on the flat, wet, oil slicked concrete roads of Texas so I can avoid the seemingly endless myriad of idiots that I face on a daily basis during my commute to work and night school. I would also like the tires to last as long as they are advertised.

Speaking strictly of value the Falken ZIEX series tires are an excellent value ($90 per tire as opposed to $180 for Bridgestones). The last time I purchased tires I replaced the tires that came on the vehicle with the exact same brand/model when they wore out. It cost about $1100 with road hazard (which I never used) and lifetime alignment (which I take advantage of all too often (Goodyear is gonna lose on that one! heheheh)) . The Bridgestones lasted quite a long time but did not deliver the type of ride I desired especially given the money I spent on them.

I purchased the Falkens on the recommendation of a friend who advised me that hands down these tires are the best bang for my buck. So far so good. For 1/2 the price they ride a heck of a lot better than the Bridgestones. If they last the test of time, I will be THRILLED. If not, I will just have to buy tires that cost 1/2 as much twice as often! So far I love the way my vehicle drives with these tires on it! I am sold.

Shameless plug. I ordered the tires from WWW.ONLINETIRES.COM. These guys were great. While I was doing my research I called them several times for advice, info etc. The salesperson spent a considerable amount of time answering my questions and quoting me prices/facts on the various tires in which I was interested. I placed the order over the phone and they shipped the tires to me 2X2 in shrink wrap. I paid $10 more in shipping chrages than I would have in taxes but I didn't have to spend time calling around to the local stores to find out who carried the brand etc. Time is money.

The only thing I don't get by ordering online is road hazard warranty which as I stated before, I have never used. Highly recommended!

I simply love these tires. They are great on wet roads. The handling is very good on dry roads. They look GREAT on my Sebring LXi.

Weakness:

BEWARE... These tires simply suck in the snow.

I've hit puddles of water at various speeds and have rarely, if ever, hydroplaned. They are great looking, much better-than-average handling, and very resonably priced tire.

Pretty good dry traction. Lasted a long, long, long, long, long, long time...too long!!!!! I wanted to get rid of them two years ago, but they wouldn't die!!!!! 48,000 miles later, they are dead!!!!! Hooray!!!!!

Weakness:

Very bad wet traction. If you live where there is much rain or any snow, avoid these tires. It snows about twice a year here, and on those days, I couldn't get out of my driveway.

These are the worst tires I have had the misfortune of putting on my '96 Mustang GT. They have absolutely zero traction in the rain, and responsiveness is terrible. The only saving grace is that they had 48,000 miles on them when I replaced them yesterday with a set of Toyo Proxes T1-S's. And that was only after I did some serious driving to kill them. The original Goodyears Gatorbacks were good for 25,000 miles. The first set of tires I purchased for the car, Firestone Firehawk SZ 50's only lasted 18,000 miles, but were great. I am just so glad to be rid of these tires. The Toyo's are a definite improvement over the Falkens, but I don't know if it will be a valid comparison, since I also changed out the stock 17x8 inch wheels with a new set of 17x9 inch chrome Ford Motor Sports Cobra R wheels and went up in tire size to 265/40ZR17 from the stock size of 245/45ZR17. I will review the Toyo's at a later date.

Poor treadwear, poor traction, waste of money

These tires are horrible. The get loose everytime I step on the gas, especially if it's raining or going around corners. This was an utter waste of money. The last tires I had were Yokohamas, and I should have stuck with those. My NSX is a mid-engine car, resulting in the best handling possible without all wheel drive...I want tires that can use that potential. These tires are expensive and belong on a Geo metro.

Strength:

Value for money
Wet weather handling
Strong sidewall
Nice tread pattern

Weakness:

stiff ride
large and excessive sidewall markings

Believe it or not, these tires outperformed the Bridgestone Potenzas in wet weather. Price-wise I think these tires are worth the money I paid. They not only give better traction but they also look good as well.

They only minor difference was the harder ride especially when going through potholes/speedbumps and the stiffness during high speed turns.

This improved greatly when I decreased the inflation by 1psi.These are good tires but I don't think they should rate these tires as "z" radials.

wears down really quick.

You get what you paid for. They are good cheap tires for summer, spring, and fall but in winter...umm forget about it. You will slide everywhere! I almost killed myself twice with these tires! Overall your better off with some other tires than these ones. You buy these tires and 2 months later your going to have to buy new ones. So I would go with GoodYear or Dunlap.

Excellent value for the money. There are probably better tires, but for all season traction, plus low price, these tires are very hard to beat.

Excellent traction, good grip in the wet, decent in the snow, excellent on dry pavement. Comfortable ride and the tire has very good craftsmanship. My last set lasted well over 40,000 miles and my car needed an alignment bad towards the end.
