Strength:

Price, treadwear, handling, good looking tires

Weakness:

Getting noisey as the miles roll by. Because they're 50 series tires, just slow down when it's raining or snowing...use a little common sense!

Excellent tires, excellent price. Three years, 33000 mostly highway miles in all kinds of weather, absolutely no problems.

Strength:

Never had a problem with these tires breaking loose on corners or as stated by many, "on dry pavement". I also never had a tire spin when I was moving from a stop. The appearance is good and sporty.

Weakness:

Shudder at high speeds with very noticeable noise. Construction is obviously very weak if they are not able to take some bumps and everyday driving. I had a 2000 Mustang GT with lower profile Good/Years on and I never had a bump problem and I always baby my cars on bumps. Wet weather traction in a straight line was ok as long as you did not attempt to move the wheels too fast to either side. I did slow to a large extent on wet roads for corners as I have felt them slip away before.

The Firestone Firehawk GTA 02's that I have on my vehicle right now started off very good. I had them for about 4 months without a problem. The area in which I live does not have the greatest roads, not potholes soo much, but ripples in the road from the winters here. At about the 9 month mark I was forced off of the roadway into a curb by a merging motorist. The only damage that I saw at the time was the giant scratch on the rim and a large amount of concrete skid mark on the sidewall of the tire. I figured that the alignment was off so that was fixed. The dealer even said that the alignment wasn't even hurt, but they tweaked it a little bit. The rim was replaced. When I attempted to stop I noticed that the car gave no indication that it was about to lock-up, but it did. Now I have been in the Army for 5 years and have been a police officer for that time and currently with about 7 years total time as a cop. This brings me to this point, I know how to read a car at max performance and how to threashold stop. I was not able to feel this with these tires. I am currently purchasing a new set of tires from Cooper Tires. The tires I am getting are the Cooper Lifeliner SLE(V rated). These we will see about and we will possibly be writing a review on them after awhile.

Strength:

Long tread life (at what cost?)

Weakness:

Poor wet weather traction Poor snow traction Loud Inconsistent build quality

I was hoping that Ford would NOT put Firestones on this car when I ordered it given the problems they experienced with the Explorer and the Firstones recall. Unfortunately, my car arrived with Firestone Firehawk GTA Tires as OEM. They were junk from the minute I drove off the lot. Within a day, I was back at the dealer with a thumping noise that showed up while taking curves and varied with speed. No bearing problem was found so the front tires were rebalanced but it made no change in the problem. We then rotated the fronts to the back and the problem went away. At 3,000 miles the tires were rotated again by dealership so we ended up with the "bad" tire back on the front again and sure enough, the problem came back so I'm unable to follow proper rotation procedures and will not be able to realize the full life from these tires (perhaps a gift in disguise ablbeit costly!) The tires are terrible in both dry and wet conditions and forget snow. On the highway, they are loud and are getting louder by the month. Now one of the "good?" front tires has a bulge at the shoulder (I can see no evidence of road hazard damage). At this point, I give up. My life is worth much more than $500 in tires so I bought four new Goodyears for this car. At least they're highly rated and good in wet weather. The Firehawks aren't worth a dime. Avoid them at all costs. By the way, knowing inflation has been an issue with Firestone products, I bought a professional tire guage when the car was new and checked pressures monthly. It didn't make a difference so I'm beginning to believe Ford got shafted by Firestone on the Explorer fiasco. I wouldn't take four new Firehawks from Firestone even if they offered them to me.

Decent dry grip.

Weakness:

Come apart to easily.

I bought a used 99 New Beetle with 16" rims and was pleased that the dealer put NEW Firestone Firehawk tires and new brakes on the car at time of purchase. What I didn't know was how crappy these tires are...had a blow out last week with less than 20K on them. The tread came right off and severed my ABS/Speed Sensor electrical wire. Cost to repair so far and I haven't replaced my spare $386.00 Thank goodness VW equips their new cars with full size spares.

* Extremely high maintenance * Chopping occurs in less than the half life of the tire * Shabbily built by the communist "United Steelworkers of America"

The Firestone Firehawk GTA's are worthless. The dealer never told me that the tire was in need of rotation every 3,000 miles. I took the car (02 Ford Focus SE, less than 20,000 miles) into the Firestone dealer to have the tires balanced. The mechanic found "chopping" on both tires that had been at the rear of the car (They were rotated by the Ford deal that day). Then the Firestone dealer wanted me to get an allignment ($150) and 4 new Firehawks ($250). The dealer accused me of running into and object, that is why, he explained, the allignment was bad and the wheels were chopping. I drove straight to the Ford dealer. They set the record straight. The Ford dealer stated that The Firehawk's are VERY high maintenance and needed to be rotated at least every 3,000 to 4,000 miles. The chopping is do to a horribly built tire. This is why, he stated, Ford refuses to put Firehawks on the Focuses anymore. Thanks allot Ford and Firestone. - A Firestone Employee who (now)understands that Firestone will never make a single quality product ever again.

Strength:

Long tread life, I currently have 45K on them, but am replacing these now--not for tread wear but concrens about traction and handling mishaps that have occurred in the last year.

Weakness:

Traction in Snow, Sleet, Rain or anything other than sunny days. These have caused numerous scary incidents and thankfully I am an experienced driver. Do not purchase these tires. If they came standard on your Saturn SC2 replace them as soon as you can afford to do so with Michelin or Yokohamas.

The Firestone Firehawk GTA Size P205/75/ R15 that were original eguipment on my Saturn SC2 are more inferior compared to most tires on the market. They have lost air for no reason atleast 6 times in the last year. I always check the air in the tires before driving. The have very little traction in the rain and ZERO traction in snow or sleet. I will be buying Michelins or Yokohamas to replace them.

I ahve used Coopers, Goodyear, Yokohamas and Michelins over the last 15 years. All 4 brands performed better than these.

Everything you can possibly think of and much more! So many flaws you have trouble keeping count of all of them.

The tires have caused us nothing but grief since we took possession of the vehicle. The worst tire on the market. Ford and Firestone should be sued for putting out such unsafe garbage on a vehicle, endangering people's lives. Protest to Ford and local Dealership has produced no satisfaction.

B. F. Goodrich, Goodyear, Michelin on other vehicles of course, but had much better luck with these brands.

Strength:

Long tread life

Weakness:

Absolutely no snow traction!

I don't have anything good to say about the Firestone Firehawk GTA's found on my '99 Saturn. They hold absolutely no grip in the snow and little traction in the rain. Dry weather traction is okay. My advice; spend an extra $500 and buy yourself some new Yokohama's. What a difference in performance!

The whole tire presents a weakness. i would never recomend it's use for anyone

Ok here's the scoop within one week of buying my focus a tire blew. Thought maybe my fault..two weeks later another one blew. not my fault. I called firestone they told me that they were studying this tire because they had problems in the midwest with them.Like they blow out easily on pot holes. ALl the other tires in my lifetime i have had have been able to run over a pothole and not need replaced but i have been told by several people that these are the only tires i can put on this car. So if anyone knows any other tires i can throw on my car let me know. I have had to replace these tires so much that I can't afford to do it again. I think firestone adn ford need to stand up and take responsiblity. I have lost my trust in ford and firestone and will never buy from either again. ANd has anyone else noticed that ford no longer puts these tires on their focus'
