Goodyear Eagle RS-A Tires

DESCRIPTION

Goodyear designed the Eagle RS-A to excel in all conditions, and part of the success is the unique asymmetrical tread design. It delivers traction in the dry, wet and snow with consistent effectiveness. And premium sidewall styling means the RS-A looks as good as it performs.

Strength:

pretty good wet grip, progressive break-away

Weakness:

expensive, squeal easily, ride hard, very noisy

There are several tires in this price category that seem to be much better. Dunlop, Michelin, etc. These tires are too noisy and hard riding for the performance. Expected more.

Strength:

Good dry grip. Progressive break away. Great Treadwear!

Weakness:

Pathetic in the wet. Rides hard, noisy.

These tires are Ok as long as you don't drive a lot in the wet. They are Ok in the dry and have a good long treadlife. They suck in the wet and in the snow. Overall there are better tires out there. It would be wise to look around.

Strength:

-Good dry traction
-Good riding tire
-Fair wet traction

Weakness:

-Tread wear
-Minimal tire spin when taking-off in the rain
-Overpriced

I have had these tires for about 3 years now on my Monte Carlo Z34. I've got P225/60R16 and they seem to do a good job. I don't know what all the other complaints are about. My car feels sturdy in the rain and I can take the North Ga. Mtn curves on a dry day at considerable speeds with good traction and no squealing. These are good riding tires that I feel safe in. Contrary to most other reviews on this tire, I believe that these tires hold up well if they are not abused. The only complaints I have is that it has minimal tire spin while taking off in the rain (b/c of torque), and the tread doesn't last as long as I hoped it would. However, my girlfriend had RS-A's on her Grand Am (205/55/R16) and she got 68,000 miles out of them. I mean come on people, the police use this tire. If it's good enough for the police to put on their cars for traction maximization in all-weather conditions, then don't you think it is good enough for yours! Think about it!

Horrible traction,
unbelievably LOUD,
tire separation

I didn't know the Firestone/Bridgestone mess affect Goodyear as well! Someone better tell Ford, since they are switching to Goodyear now. Anyway, it looks like other people have had the same problem as I had. I was driving around 70-75mph in heavy rains when my car starts to shake. Within seconds, I look out my side view mirror to see my tire fly off my car. I'm lucky that I didn't die crashing into anything. I stopped my car to find out that the walls had separated from the tread. My $480 factory rim was destroyed as well. I'm going to call Goodyear and Mitsubishi and make them pay for my replacements. Otherwise, I'm thinking of a lawsuit or just going to the media. I'm sure Goodyear, Ford, and Mitsubishi don't want any more attention. I'll post again when I get an answer from one of these companies.

Strength:

Good traction in dry, wet and snowy conditions. Relatively quiet over pavement imperfections.

Weakness:

Tread life (they seem about 1/2 gone after 18,000 miles) Sidewall rigidity (apparent on steep curves)

I was actually quite surprised at all the negative ratings I saw regarding this tire. They have been quite good to me on my Focus, and seem a good fit for that particular application. I was in particular surprised at how good the traction was in snowy/icy conditions, especially given that the RS-A is marketed as a touring tire. They ride and handle quite well in my experience, although they do give (without chirping) at the edge of their holding ability.

Strength:

These tires handle really well in bad weather. This past winter we had frequent snowfall and massive accumulations (NY/NJ). I had no problem stopping on hills with 8-10 inches of snow and then moving again. They're smooth and quiet.

Weakness:

Less than great strength in the sidewalls. These tires are pretty fragile when used on unpaved roads or roads with alot of imperfections.

With a sidewall size of 55, they're slightly smaller than I'm used to and when I first drove on them, I did some damage. They are fairly fragile and prone to damage on unsmooth roads. The potholes of NY Metro area are like landmines for these tires, but the handling of the tires allows for quick aversion maneuvers. They are the standard tire with my car, but I've gone back to them several times. They are an attractive tire as well. I've seen some pretty mixed reviews and I can agree that they might be a little pricey for a tire that's not really built for performance. Had they not come with the car, I'm not sure I would have purchased them, but after using them for 18 months I'm satisfied and will stay with them at least for the life of this car, if not the next.

Strength:

Good traction on hard cornering, curve of off-ramp at 55mph.

Weakness:

On the front, one side wall cracked and tire flattened at only 35,400 miles. The other front tire was starting to crack, but still holding air fine. The two rear tires are still doing fine, looking good, plenty of tread at 55,000 miles.

Didn't last as long as I expected. Drives smoothly, rarely need air. Stands up to the Florida heat and continues to do well in the rainy season. Never any squealing, even when cornering fast, good stop and go under most conditions. Occasionally spins before catch on wet surface when accelerating rapidly from dead stop. Never used in snow.

Look nice (This is the best I can say about the tire)

Weakness:

Bad on wet roads and downright dangerous in snow/ice.

I have almost 30K miles on these tires, as they were original equipment. I would rate them as fair at best, and intend to replace with something else.

Dry weather grip and turning capabilities

Weakness:

horrible in wet weather

I put a lot of miles on these tires. They kept up with all of the rough driving i do, as long as it was on dry roads. i found that after a little treadwear the tires were really slick in the rain and i hydroplaned alot. Turning in wet weather was impossible but in dry weather these are really good tires. i didn't get a chance to test them in the snow.
