Yokohama A520 Tires

Yokohama A520 Tires

DESCRIPTION

Sleek design. Superior handling. Sharp response. That's exactly what the A520 is all about. Born and bred on the race track, this performance tire is ready to tackle nearly anything the road throws its way. From super sharp corners to wide open straightaways and everything in between. They're available in 16 and 17 inch sizes.

Strength:

Unbelievable grip. That was the first impression I got from them. The construction of the tyre also make the handling of the car more responsive. My car is FWD and the A520 makes 'lift-off oversteer' much easier to control due to its progressive and predictable nature. Truely confidence inspiring. I like a car that is direct to the point of beeing 'pointy' and this tyre just suits me.
Another nice feature is that there is not much tyre screech, which means you won't attract too much attention. As for wet weather handling, I'd say that it is very good through longer corners, the A520 don't really like quick changes in direction when its wet.

Weakness:

Tyre wear and the NOISE.

Paid AUD$127 each. I would definately recommend it for the driving enthusiast who won't mind the noise.

The A520 replaced the Original Equipment tyres (Goodyear Eagle GA). There is simply no comparison. Like going from Flintstone 'rock for tyres' to nice grippy rubber.

Strength:

Precise turning and cornering.
Incredible grip.
Awesome looking!!

Weakness:

A bit noisy (hardly noticable with 800 watts pounding 2 12" subs in the trunk)!!
Short life span.

I have not yet discovered the traction limits of this tire (wet and dry), believe me I've tryed!! In launching, cornering at stupid speeds, highway driving in the pouring rain.....they have exceeded all my expectations!! They have even improved my 1/4 mile times on the track!! If the noise doesn't bother you (which it doesn't me) BUY THEM!!!

sticks to the road like glue sticks to paper. I would definetly recommend these tires to anyone.

Weakness:

loud as hell.

these tires would last if you dont drive like a maniac. I keep up with mateniance and the tread is still perfect after one year and 20,000 miles other than average wear even with a 3 degree chamber.

Strength:

Outstanding grip wet and dry, just incredible. Great for the price.

Weakness:

Noise, especially at 25 to 45 mph, on all pavement. Short life - I estimate 25K miles tire life on a Honda Accord (205/55-16 size).

Discount Tire Direct recommended the A520 as a replacement for the old A509. The grip is great in all situations, but I don't like the noise. I don't remember the A509's being noisy. I will replace these in a few months and am looking for a high performance tire with a wear rating of about 300, and less noise, for about the same price. I am considering the Yokohama AVS db, and the Bridgestone RE730. I would recommend the A520 to anyone who wants excellent grip at a low price, is not annoyed by noise, and can live with the 180 wear rating.

Strength:

Relatively affordable
Good looking
Incredible grip
Sharp cornering

Weakness:

Fast wearing
Noisy

I replaced these from the Brigestone in my 96 Celica, after 55,000 Km of regular driving. The first thing I noticed about these tyres is the improvement in the handling of the car, especially in the wet and also cornering. However, after 30,000 Km I'm begining to get the feeling that I might have to replace them soon, despite my relatively sensible driving. The tread pattern looks good, but the noise is starting to annoy me!
Would recommend them because of the performance and value for money.

Sticks like glue and since sides of the tire is quite stiff steering response is excellent.Looks very aggressive also.

Weakness:

Noise, noise noise! It sounds like you have a snow tire on your car.(My tires are 205/50/16 and has W rating)

130$ per tire. If you don't mind having a noisy tire it's one of the best you can get for that price

Model Reviewed: 93 PreludeVTEC

Strength:

It has very good grip both in the wet and the dry. Very good grip around corners and stopping power. Awesome traction. They are a Z-rated tire.

Weakness:

Although it does do good around corners if there are any imperfections in the road it does tend to jump out a little and I expected a little more from this tire. The tire tread wear rate is high, the tires tend to wear pretty fast if doing performance driving. Not a burnout tire, they will go up in smoke.

Paid $100/tire I have 17" tires. They are very good, awesome traction and grip although do get a little loose around rough corners. Because of good traction and rubber they tend to wear kind of fast. For a performance tire at a good price I'd recommend them.

Similar Products Used:

Yokohama XGT-V4 Since these aren't performance driven tires as the A520's are they aren't as good but have a better wear rate.
