Acura 3.2 TL
Strength:
Strong engine. Good reliablity, fairly comfortable ride at highway speed. Good sound system.
Weakness:
Brakes, paint chipping, especially on bumpers. Just coming off lease on this TL. All in all a pretty reliable car. Brakes werent great, had to have the front rotors recut by Acura at 40,000 miles, wobble. Starting to do it again at 52K miles. Other than that, have had no problem. Wind noise on drivers side is louder than it should be. Fast enough to more than keep up on the highway. Other than oil changes, brakes and tires, no repairs. Considering getting a 2003 this month (good deals on them now). Had a 95 Maxima, ok, thought it was way cheaper in fit and finish than acura. Strength:
Good motor very powerful, rides and handles good, quiet interior, little road noise at high speed,a very comfortable car to drive
Weakness:
Transmission never shifted well from day 1, stopped shifting at 50,000 clicks, rebuilt tranny put in seems to shift good now. SRS warning light keeps coming on none pressing against air bags, dealer reset it once, light is on again. Good car, very fast, luxurious, love the heated power memory seats. Gas mileage is not terrific but reasonable if you keep under 60 miles/hr mark. Handles like a dream. No problems with brakes and we have 55,000 kilometers on them. Similar Products Used: Last vehicle nissan maxima, sold it at 80,000 kilometers, no problems just took in for oil changes. Not as luxurious but had no problems with it. |

Acura 3.2 TL
Strength:
Engine, comfortable seating (love that memory seating),even the Bose system that so many others have panned is great. For the type of music I listen to, it's more then enough. Lot's of trunk space.
Weakness:
Only thing I am worried about is the tranny but with 24 road side assistance what the heck. My car is not included in any manufacturer extended warranty so I am hoping that they fixed the tranny problems. I heard about the transmission problems but bought this car anyway. I knew they were changing the body style (and raising the price for 2004)so I took the plunge. Always wanted one and so far I am glad I did. I put two coats of wax on it's white diamond pearl finish hoping to avoid the chipping that other's have. Looks great, drives great and even smells great. Similar Products Used: We have a Volvo S80, which is a great car and like a tank. I drove a 330ia but the BMW dealer didn't seem to want my business as bad as the Acura dealer did. Told me to come back when I had more money |

Transmission, Brakes Basically this car is good, it has great acceleration, and gas great interior, but the transmission sucks and same as the brakes. The transmission failed at 37,000 KM, and the brakes somedays decide to work, some other days it dosen't work. I had the rotors replaced twice but it still has the same problems. Either than these two issues, everything else has been good. I really like the car alot, and I hope with the new transmission it will work better. I'm putting crossed drilled rotors in it, so I hope it will solve the problems. I drove 1995 Nissan Maxima, and I found it to be a better car, also the g35 is a better car. I would put the Acura in 3rd, first the g35, than the Maxima and finally the Acura. Plus the Maxima and the G35 is faster, more torque to it. Transmission, Tires, Middle armrest storage compartment won’t stay closed, Sunroof noise, cheap leather, Crappy Bose radio cd Owned a 1989 Honda Accord EX 250k no problems. Own a 1997 Acura CL 2.2 230k miles runs great. Bought a 2002 Acura TL Type S after a few thousand miles everything started braking. First leather cracked in the back seat Acura replaced. Then middle armrest storage compartment won’t stay closed Acura tried to fix three times still broke. Hard shifting never got better Acura replaced transmission at 6k. Michelin Pilot Tires started failing in the sidewall at 16k and still has half its tread. The Michelin Pilot Tires on these cars are DEFECTIVE replace ASAP!! See Acura-TL.com or The Tire Rack.com for more info about the tires. Bottom line this car is crap don’t buy it. Similar Products Used: 1997 Acura CL 2.2 still running strong after 230k miles. |

Acura TL S-Type
Strength:
Excellent fast Straight Acceleration. Conservative understated exterior styling.
Weakness:
Typical frontwheel drive handling. Cheap interior materials(plastic and leather) and poor craftsmanship(Fit and finish). Very weak brakes that cannot handle the 260 HP. Tires are too slim to grab the road. Headroom is poor. No rear passenger headrest to prevent whiplash. No separate exterior trunk lock(your forced to use your remote). No full size spare tire. Purchased the car in April of 2003.This car is simply the best value for your money. Search the web and you will agree. Buy this car only if you want the absolute bang for the buck. Otherwise, if you can afford another 10 to 13 grand, opt for the BMW 330. This car is a jack of all trades, but a master of none. Performance is excellent in straight acceleration only(freeway on ramp and etc). The car struggles heavily to balance itself during hard cornering. Front wheel drive and skinny tires make it worse. German build quality and handling is by far milestones ahead of Japanese handling. Turning radius is horrible. All Acuras except the RL is made in Ohio and that has compromised the once renowned build quality of Honda/Acura vehicles. My Interior center console simulated wood trim fell out because the adhesive and the metal clips were defective. Rear passenger interior door panel came loose due to missing clips. Moon roof has rattling noise. The RL is made 100% in Japan. Go to any Acura showroom and look at the fit and finish of the RL compared to TL and all other Acura cars and you will discover that the RL is far ahead in quality and craftsmanship. Even Honda knows and will not take any chances when it comes to building their flagship RL sedan and prefers to build it in Japan. The car is great as a daily driver and is marketed toward past and present accord owners. If you are a buyer considering the present S-Type or the Accord V-6 and looking for performance then go with the S-Type. Those of you considering the standard TL or the TL S-Type, get the S-Type. Do not even consider the standard TL(a good car still no doubt). If you absolute must have superb fit and finish quality and performance, look to BMW(Be willing to pay for it though). After its all said and done, the TL S-Type is a great buy, fun to drive and pound for dollar and dollar for pound. Similar Products Used: 96 2Dr four cylinder Honda Accord Coupe. |

NONE!
Weakness:
See above. Avoid this car! I've been driving mine for over a year and a half...nothing but problems. The transmission needed to be replaced at 12,000 miles. I'm told that EVERY model needs a new transmission (the '02 and '03...I'm waiting on the results of the '04, but I expect the same). Transmission is not only deffective, but DANGEROUS! Mine went out causing me to crash. Cerritos Acura (avoid them too!) only wanted to replace the transmission and not repair the body damage at first. I had to haggle for them to repair the body damage and supply me with a rental car. A/C is not very cold. Bose Stereo is unreliable at best...I'm on my second and will get my third on my next service visit. Paint chips all over front bumper and scratches too easily. My rear view mirror was barely bumped and the housing broke causing the mirror to just dangle. The TL "wears" too fast...there is a lot of interior "noise" after 42,000 miles. I bought an Acura because of friends experiences with the Integra...the TL is a complete Lemon. It took me almost 2 years to come up with the down payment for a new car. I wish I'd put that money down on an Infinity, Audi, or C-class. Acura places great emphasis on their "customer reviews" which the Service Department reminds you of every time you bring your car in for service. When you pick your car up after being serviced, the service dept. asks you to bubble in "Excellent" on all the questions "just in case you are sent a survey". You'll deffinately get one after your purchase as well. Further, Cerritos Acura tells you at the time of purchase that they have "loaner's" when you bring your car in for service. GOOD LUCK! You have to beg and stroke them for one! Usually, the laoner's are "all gone". GET ME OUT OF THIS CAR! Similar Products Used: None. I will never buy another Acura and have talked 3 friends out of buying one as well. Two bought Infinity's and the third I referred to Audi. They're all 3 very satisfied. |

Horsepower Refinement Price Transmission performance (Reliability?) Honda quality Good size
Weakness:
Transmission reliability? No unique qualities Not as fun to drive as the IS 300 Average looks I haven't had this car long enough to make a long term review, but here are my initial impressions since I have driven it for 24+ hours. Typical Acura feel and quality which is nice. However, it doesn't have that tight solid feel of the Lexus IS300 or the BMW. There is a certain perfection in the way the wheel feels in your hand and the car reacts to driver input with these other cars. I was very surprised that Lexus had figured out how to duplicate that German feel. However, that German feel comes with a price tag and usually high repairs/maintenance costs. The Type S has great acceleration and Acura has done well with the gearbox, though many reviewers have had problems. For the money, I am not sure you can find a car that offers so much performance, refinement and that wonderful Honda reliability. The Tyoe S is not as common, but I feel based on my limited driving that it is worth the extra money. I haven't purchased this car yet, but I am very close to doing so. It doesn't run like my 03 vette, but for a four door it boogies. I just wish it had better styling. I would put a body kit on it(no spoiler), lower it about 1", and go with wider wheels and tires. This is a nice ride, but it needs to distinguish itself from the Accord and the Type S should be more agressice than the base model, the 17" wheels don't really change much visually.
