since the new coupe came out in 2000, mine looks so old now....

i Do love all BMW that i have had.... especially this coupe rocks my world.
eventhough my Z3 looks better and all, more powered 328is is my favorite to drive to and from work.

Model Reviewed: / M3 4-door

Strength:

* Good power (240 hp, 220 ft-lb)
* Phenomenol and very forgiving handling and cornering
* Build quality
* Appearance - looks like the world class car that it is

Weakness:

The stereo! It has the standard stereo, a step down from the optional Harmon Kardon unit. Whimpy output and I hate to turn it up to hear its 10% THD (total harmonic distortion). First upgrade: a Nakamichi aftermarket unit.
Aftermarket parts are expensive! I'm betting BMW parts n' service are expensive too.

A couple years ago, I thought about what my dream car would be (within range of middle-class ownership). I drooled over the M3's introduced in 1995 but they were too small to be practical. My dream car would've been an M3 for its performance with 4 doors to allow me to haul back-seat passengers like my daughter.

I had always owned cars/trucks with a manual transmission. No doubt they drive sportier. But I guess I'm tired of shifting, so I also dreamed that my M3 would have an automatic.
Not until recently did I discover they made such a car in 1997/1998! Within three months, I found the 4-door M3 with automatic I dreamed of.

The car is phenomenol! Even with automatic, acceleration is quite brisk. The engine loves to pull and rev to its redline. And the engine is very smooth.

Handling is also great. Suspension is more firm than a 323i/328i which I prefer for improved feel of how the car reacts to the road and for break-neck cornering. When I first got the car, I had to learn to trust it because I held mental baggage based on experience with average cars with body roll and other bad cornering manners. The M3 can be pushed much harder through curves and it is quite forgiving.

Luxuries are appreciated on this model. I would bet interiors of 328's are similarly equipped.

I gave a 5-star rating based on the great price I paid, no doubt this is a 3-year old vehicle. I'd be freaked out to pay $45k new.

I am very happy with this car. It speaks class and I'm proud to drive it. A 4-door automatic family sedan that drives like a sports car? Oh yeah. It drives better than the cheaper cars that people call "sports cars".

power,looks and brakes.

Weakness:

problems with the windshield (it distorts the images through it).
sport seats feels like been seating in a surf board.
front seat bealts located too far behind the seat to reach it.
dealer service really poor ( like they just wants to sales you once)
pricey in PR due to local taxes.

really dissapointed this time, thinking going back to 5 series with more punch (540i) but have to consider dealer service and that the life span of actual model is too short.

Strength:

Style, triple digit passing power, sublime shifter and clutch, decent size, HK system, best steering in its class by far, good T. control system, awesome safety, incredible engineering details that many don't know about.

Weakness:

Not as good road feel as E36, but hey, it still is fabulous.

You guys already know about these cars enough, so I won't get into the superlatives. But I would like to share with you one thing:

If any of you were in the car with me one night that I REALLY flogged the car around the bends, on the highway, etc. you would become a believer in BMWs being the ultimate vehicles, no matter what you think. Utterly incredible. And the car didn't even have sport suspension!

Talk about feeling-better-the-faster-you-go. What a driver's car. I did things in this car that in anything else short of a highly-modded sports car or anything less than a Porsche would have gotten you killed. That alone speaks immensely of these Bavarian engineers' focus. 6 stars out of 5. Nothing else comes close on the market.

I don't have the time nor the patience to explain (believe me, I have tried, researched, and whatever else you can think of, LONG AND HARD), save yourself and get a BMW. Forget anything else including Audi and Benz. If you are thinking about a Porsche just get the new M3.

Best car company on the planet, period. If you argue with that then you are, no offense, simply ignorant.

Fantastic feel and handling. Great styling, the sport package is a must. Great pickup @ 184hp for a 2.5 lt. Braking power is excellent.

Weakness:

tight rear seats

Definitely go w/ a 5-speed w/ the 325. Puts the power where you need it. If possible, get the sport package (great handling and 17" wheels), and premium package w/ the xenon headlights. Remember, the dealer does all the servicing for 3yr 36K miles, which includes the oil change, clutch, brakes, etc, except for tires and battery. How can you go wrong????

Strength:

Handling is top notch.
DSC works well, allowing fast and safe cornering.
Braking feels very precise and sensitive.
Has a real beauty both inside and outside.
Transmission is smooth and cleverly adapts to your driving style.

Weakness:

Trunk cannot be opened from inside the car! Only via keyless and key.
Wheels and rims need regulay cleaning, lots of brake dust.
No speedtrip meter.

Overall, this is one great car and it adds lots of fun when you're trying to get from point A to B, in style. I got mine for around 37000. BMW has great customer support, so won't have to worry about your car at all. If you're someone who is looking for a car that looks good and cool and at the same time giving you the rush everytime you get into it, welcome to the club. Watch the speed though, coz' it goes up so fast when you're dragging and pushing that steptronic. Really envy those dudes in Germany and that Autobahn thing. Damn

Wind noise at speeds over 50mph

This car is no doubt a blast to drive. The ride is comfortable, and the road handling is great. Im a little disappointed in the wind noise and belive that it just might be my car. My buddy has the same car and does not complain about the noise. Overall its a sharp, well built driving machine! If your looking for heads to turn when you roll down the street, this car would be for you. I dont recommend having the windows tinted though, it makes it hard to see out of at night with the heating side mirrors which are blue-tinted.

Weakness:

Weak sound system
Needs more horsepower
Strange rattle from windows

I would definitely recommend this car to everyone, especially for those who are looking for a luxury car but not willing to spend $50,000. I purchased the premium package. My only regret is not purchasing the sport package and xenon lights. The sport package is a must! Don't bother with the 328i because the $6,000 price increase is definitely not justified! The 328I is only equiped with 24 more horsepower. Beside a little more horsepower, noone can tell the two apart. I purchased the steptronic shifter which is also a nice toy to have. In short, love the car!!!
