Strength:

Fantastic steering and engine. Great transmission, comfortable seats.
Plus it is holding up extremely well.

Weakness:

Manual transmission can get stiff if car is not used regularly.
Windshield chips easily.

I bought this car new on a whim 6 years ago. After 50000 miles I have
had ZERO repairs other than a few warranty things. Even the original
Michelins are still on it! With the 5 speed, I have never gotten less
than 26 mpg, but I use this car mostly for highway trips. It is rattle
free, the power leather seats are great and offer unlimited adjustability,
and if you know how to drive you can put almost anything to shame on a
two lane road. Rear seats fold down so you can even squeeze in a
mountain bike. Even when these cars do break, parts don't cost that much
anymore. BMW has done a good job in this regard. I'm looking at new cars
and can say that this car is a tough act to follow.

Strength:

It is a M3 so that says it all. From A to Z everything is a strength. Speed, torque, looks, comfort, interior(seats are sick) etc. You may think that 47k is alot for a used car? Obviously you have never drove an M3.

Weakness:

None. Back of the rear seats are hard ass plastic.

Would recommend no doubt. Its the car of a boss. It's got it all. Can't wait for the new one(2001). VROOOOM. Even better.

Strength:

This is a super fun car. It handles great. The braking system is awesome. One of the best features is the automatic top that folds into the trunk. The new engine is very quick

Weakness:

Those great breaks put dust all over the wheels in seconds (no big whaup)

The other auto considered were the CLK which is NOT a sports car and the Jag XK8 which felt like a P.O.S. Needed a back seat so the Porche was out. If you want a true driving machine that is a convertible then this is the one

Strength:

Superior handling (with Sport Package and 16" wheels), excellent braking, smooth 5 speed manual transmission, great styling.

Weakness:

The 2.5 liter engine only produces 170 horsepower.

I paid $31,610 + tax on 15 Feb 00 for the 2000 BMW 323i Sedan equipped with the following options: Sport Package, Leather Trim, Heated Power Front Seats, Metallic Paint and CD Player. I highly recommend the BMW to those who truly enjoy pushing a car to its handling limits. This car is a thrill to drive every time you get behind the wheel.

I test drove the 2000 Nissan Maxima and 2000 Infiniti I30 before purchasing the BMW. The other cars didn't even come close to the shear driving pleasure and high-performance handling of the BMW.

It's hard to drive at the winter time, but it's always hard to drive with the rear drive car ...

I'd like to recommend it to all the young people, all the crazy boys and girls. That's the roght car for all of us ...

Strength:

Superior handling and breaks. Fun to drive. After 16K miles
of hard driving engine still purrs. Car is smooth at speeds
in excess of 110 MPH.

Weakness:

Break dust is a pain in the neck. Also needed a few repair,
cd player would not eject disk, dealer repaired. Passenger
window broke, dealer repaired.
Poor design for view of left rear. Every time I need to
change lanes left to pass (ALOT) I have a hard time seeing.
I have tried to move see up, back , left and right and the
dumb bar between the windows is still in the way.
Also when back windows are down at 40 MPH or great and front
windows aren't there is a very annoying reverb.
Seats are a little uncomfotable.

Overall an excellent car, but a little pricy. It's still worth
it if you love to drive. I have never driven anyting as fun.
I test drove the A4, S40 and Passat. Non of them compair.
The car seems to beg to be driven, the engine purrs when
you hit the gas and seems to whine when you coast.
BMW need to work a little on comfort, reliability and
design a better view of the road.

Also I should add I have a base car no extra.
Definte must is the sports package, I guess I'll get it next
time.

Strong Engine
M3 suspension kit, seats, wheels etc. are excellent
Great gearbox

Weakness:

Electrical glitches, especially door lock actuators, H-K amp died, premature battery failure, A/C had to be completely replaced (under warranty).

Once you have purchased a BMW, it is very difficukt to go to another type of car. They really ARE the best in their class.
I use this car hard, on the street, back road twisty bits, and the track for 'play days'. With over 100,000kms on the odometer, I am still in love with this car. I like the styling and the performance better than the new E46, so it's going to be hard to trade on the new models. Ah well, I suppose I'll live. C'est dommage :-)

I would recommend this car to anyone.

Strength:

Beautiful car in every way - SEXY.
Tight German feel.
Clean shifter.
Envious glances, chicks dig it.

Weakness:

A-LOT!!! I bought mine new and have had MANY PROBLEMS!!
1)First CD player wouldn't eject CD's. (now fixed)
2)Then sunroof wouldn't open/close unless I fidled with the switch for a couple of minutes. (now fixed)
3)Then my headlight module malfunctioned and the lights would flicker when I had them on. (now fixed)

But worst of all, has been a non-stop stream of mysterious squeaks and rattles coming from the interior:
a) The seat-belt height adjusters (on the B-pillar and right next to
your ear) emit clicking noises while driving.
b) There is a random rattle coming from the front passenger door.
c) The sunroof shade sometimes rattles and I have open and close it to
stop it (temporarily).
d) The armrest is constantly squeaking and creaking. My car is a stick,
so my elbow on the rest causes very annoying creaks. This is also an
intermittent noise.
e) There is a very loud and extremely annoying creak coming from the rear
shelf where the speakers are housed. BMW is "trying" to fix this now
and I hope they are successful.
These squeaks and rattles have seriously marred my second BMW experience - to the point where I would not buy it again if I had the choice. The dealer says they want to help but they are incompetent and really don't care. I am still trying to get these glitches with the interior fixed, and I want very much to love this car, but can't b/c of the non-stop problems I have had. This is a nice car but be warned, it is not perfect and there are lots of nice alternatives like the ES300 and new MB C-class and A4/S4 Audi.

Besides my specific problems complaints are:
-crappy stock stereo, despite 10 speakers it sucks!
-some blemishes in the paint (i have alpine white)
-never ending brake dust

Most of my review is summarized in the weaknesses section. BMW has really let me down on this one. I still read a lot of great reviews for this car so I think I may have gotten a lemmon. I have my good days and bad days with this car. If the stinking thing would just work like it's supposed to I would be much happier.

Strength:

Excellent handling. Solid high quality feel. Quick torquey engine. Very good feedback. Most comfortable seats ever used (sport seats). Great looks. High level of utility for being a sports car.

Weakness:

Below average reliability unfortunately. Drives rough if you don't have a smooth touch.

I bought this car used (75000 mi) from a dealership. I live in the city and can only justify owning one car. This is the only car out there that does it all so well. It is a top notch sportscar that can take 4 passengers and a trunkload of stuff, and look great doing it. This was simply the only choice. I guess I could have opted for an Interga or something, but there is no emotional facter there. The suspension has a magical ability to eat up anything you can throw at it. The balance of the car is great: neutral with very controllable throttle-induced oversteer. If you get the tail to let go by overzealous throttle use, it is easy to retreive it. The only downside is that the car has not been perfectly reliable. A lot of stuff has gone wrong that should not have in a car of this class. Replaced wheel bearings, rear breaks, seatbelt sensors & steering column all in 2 years (that would not happen on a Toyota). I think it might be cheaper to just get a new one, which is what I plan to do. It is just such a fine car that I am willing to take the risk.

Quick and responsive, with a good tighht transmission. By all means, better than, say, a Volkswagen Golf. Girls love it, hence, love me. 0-60 in less than 7.0. Good V6 engine that has never done me wrong.

Weakness:

No cupholders. Arghh... Also, noisy, can be good at times, but when you're just crusing, can be annoying.

Highly recommended. MUCH BETTER THAN VOLKSWAGENS. I'VE DRIVEN THEM ALL. NOT AS GOOD. NOT AS GOOD.
