Strength:

Power, Nice V6, plush seating, great speaker system, big trunk and almost everything else in it

Weakness:

the split fold seat could be a bit bigger. They should install more features on the steering wheel.

Got it for a great price of 21000 marked down from the fully loaded price of 25000. Got a great deal on the audio and functional package. When purchasing, especially considering getting more options because buick makes great offers on it features. Regal is a feature rich value and beats out on all of its competitor in everything, EVERYTHING. Definitely consider buying it.

Model Reviewed: Regal GS

Strength:

Acceleration, Very Quiet, Good Ride, Reasonable Handling

Weakness:

Climate control can be a little too "smart"

I bought my 98 Regal GS back in May. Mine was a GM factory official car so I got it for $19,100 with 8,900 miles on it. I've never been disapointed with it. Acceleration is fabulous. 0-60 time of 6.9 sec. (with traction control off) Average gas mileage of 23mpg. I added a K&N air filter and performace went up to 6.6 sec and 25.5 mpg. (The K&N filter cost $39 at Autozone)

I would have liked more instrumentation, but the supplied guages are easy to read. The steering wheel radio controls are wonderful. The factory radio makes a nice head unit for an afermarket amp and speakers -- very clean output.

The rear armrest is a bit on the springy side. Drinks in the rear cupholders can launch when going over a bump. Buick seems to have redesigned the rear armrest in newer models.

The the climate control is a little to smart sometimes. If you're used to a standard (non-electronic) system, it's sometimes hard to get the same results. It trys very hard to fulfill your request, but it's sometimes hard to know what to ask for. Also, read a/c ducts would have been nice. The rear seat passengers tend to get a bit warm when the sun is out.

Overall I love the car. It rides good, handles good, and can out accelerate most anything on the road. This is my second Regal (my last was a 1991 Regal Custom) and when the time comes, will consider another.

Strength:

Awesome Power, Lotsa room, Good stereo, Ton of features.

Weakness:

Needs bigger cup holders and a better rear seat fold down

Bought this car for my wife (she has a lead foot). She loves it! Has a ton more features than the imports and will drive circles around anything less than a big V8. It is a little stiff and front wheel drive stinks, but, I would buy one again in a heartbeat. I've never hit the buttons on the steering wheel and the sterring wheel DOES NOT BLOCK ANY OF THE INSRUMENTS. I love the driver information system. MSRP $27500.00 Paid $24700.00 almost 1 year ago now.

Strength:

Fast;-) sc V6, soft yet sporty, firm ride, Pretty good stereo

Weakness:

door hinges grind when opening the door, seems worse in cold weather, climate control display has went practically blank ( very dark ) again seems to be worse in cold weather.

Overall a pretty nice car. I would not want to live in colorado given all the defects seem to be worse in colder seasons. I have enjoyed mine. If you are considering buying a family transporter with the kick of a mild sports car, this is what your looking for.

Weakness:

cup holder lid pops open at slightest touch, seat belt does not always easily retract when exiting, instument panel not completely visable-blocked by steering wheel, wheel mounted remote buttons are raised to high and can be activated when turning.Poor lumbar support on the seats.

This car for the dollar performs very well. The supercharged engine moves the car when needed. It is fun to drive while at the same time povides good transportation.

Strength:

Very responsive handling and acceleration. Good braking, excellent sound system with CD, firm seats, comfortable power seat settings, front and side visibility, fuel economy, quietness of ride, trunk capacity with folding rear seats

Weakness:

Visibilty to rear is limited (my wife is 5' tall) hard to see over headrest and trunk compartment. Road tracking is not good, but this may be a tire problem. Steering wheel feels too small. Turn signal lever is placed to high for comfort. Often hit radio change buttons mounted on steering wheel.

Having driven an Olds 88, a LeSabre, and GMC pickups, I am having to adjust to the firmer ride. We are a couple just turning 60 and don't need a large car anymore. We still keep the faith with General Motors and are able to be within easy distance to a dealer. Foreign dealers are scare in outlying areas of Texas. This is a perfect American car for getting in all of these new (small) parking places at the local malls. Overall the car brings back some of the fun of driving a responsive car.

Strength:

Good handling, quiet, corners well, comfortable seats, concert hall II sound is great. Powerful, smooth engine with silky smooth transmission. Touring suspension corners well. ABS brakes are great.Excellent value

Weakness:

Some interior plastic is ill-fitting. Leather upholstery is not the top grade but acceptable for the price paid. Wish I had automatic thermostat on the heater/AC. (This is available on LS model now)

Best car I have ever owned. Trouble-free except for head gasket that leaked at 50,000 miles.

Supercharger is the selling point... its addicting to have that much Torque. Sporty looks. Turning lights. Dual CD and cassette player is nice.

Weakness:

Still has a plastic look to interior. Power mirrors seem slow to operate. Center unit is tight, keep bumping drink holder open. Previous owner had to replace both headlamp assemblies (moisture penetration) Power window unit was replaced. Strut tower bolts rattled, had to be tightened. Temperature control light was dim had to be replaced. Needs premium fuel to burn...

The great choice for somebody wanting to balance 4 door near luxury and performance on a limited budget...

Strength:

Seductive styling, solid performance, nice options, wonderful steering, ample space.

Weakness:

The Performance Shift button is hit when access the front storage bin, cup holders are inconveniently placed, and rear seats become uncomfortable on long rides

My black Regal GS has amazing looks. Some may think of it as a granny car until I beat their Mustang off the line. The headlamps and fog lights look intimidating when someone is followed by them. The leather seats are amazingly comfortable and climate control is the greatest innovation for cars since the windshield. Plus, the my kids love it. Who wouldn't love to see their mom pull up in a luxurious car that has power. It's was the best purchase I've made in a long time! I would recommend it to anyone who would like a family sedan, but still stay youthful.

Similar Products Used:

I also own a 98 Buick Century. The Century is definitely more family oriented, with 6 passenger seating and the "theatre seating" in the rear. However, it lacks in styling (subtle, but important differences) and power. My son also owns an 89 Regal GS. The line has grown up a lot in the past ten years.
