Strength:

Comfortable seats, INTENSE pickup (this car has BALLZZZ!!!), good handling for a luxury car, did i mention great pickup?, great stock stereo system, roomy interior (seats 5 comfortably), great road trip car, very comfortable

Weakness:

Front driver side window rattles when rolled down (this drives me nuts), windows are slow to roll down, interior is a bit dull, center console cupholder pops way too easily (they changed this on the 1999+ models), Performance shift button is also easy to hit accidentally, car pulls to the right a little when you get on the gas really hard off the line, rear seat does not fold down, GS model should come with a sunroof, they should make this car look a little sportier than the Century (its sister car)

VERY NICE RIDE! I'll begin by saying that I think I'm the only person under 40 who drives a Regal. (i'm 24 yrs old) I drove my friend's Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (also with the V6 3.8, Supercharger) and loved it. I was originally looking for a GTP but the price was too high. When I saw the Regal for $5,000 less the salesman told me it had the supercharger, so I took it out. The acceleration is unreal. This is NOT your father's Buick. It's the perfect sleeper car if you ask me. The interior is not as flashy as the Grand Prix, and it is not as sporty of a car, but for the price this car is well worth it. It is very roomy--my friends love it when I drive places. The GT suspension improves the handling. I would suggest that anyone looking for a Regal spend the extra money on the GS, you won't be disappointed.

Engine air intake sounds, sporty old mans car.

Weakness:

Electrical problems

Very fun car for a Buick. Found a K&N cone air filter to fit the 3.1 V6. More power...cooler sound. Heads turn. Fake chrome hubcaps, tinted windows, and a sound system make it that much better.

Strength:

The car has a powerful engine that just keeps on running. The body is solid and does not rust. This is a great cross country travelling car that gets 38 miles per gallon.

Weakness:

Almost impossible to work under the hood. Changing the spark plugs and battery are very inconvenient chores. The car is outfitted with a black box that keeps a 5 second record of everything happening in the car (I don't trust smart technology.)

The car has good looks, tight design, and needs little maintenance. I bought this car with 86,000 miles and now there are 130,000 miles. I've only replaced tires, battery, rear struts, brakes... the usual wear and tear items. The engine is still strong with lots of pickup, the transmission sounds great. Even after three hard winters in Vermont there is still no sign of rust on the undercarriage. The insurance cost for this car is among the lowest in the industry. I believe the car is lasting so long because I burn only Super Unleaded gasoline and use synthetic oils. The carbueretor looks like new inside.

Strength:

Powerful for its size, roomer than most imports, and good resell value in my area of the country.

Weakness:

Suspension a bit soft for the power availabe in the supercharged GS

This Regal has proven to be a quality vehicle. I’m a somewhat young Buick owner, (35 yrs old) and I don’t drive anything like a traditional Buick driver. All of my previous vehicles have been high-maintenance, sporty cars. To add to that, I’m a high mileage driver. I am pleased to have a car with 67k plus miles on it, and the only problem I’ve had is a blown fog lamp and a loose door molding. The 3.8 supercharged motor is powerful and responsive. The transmission is smooth, and the stereo kicks-butt. The ride is not as tight as a Grand Prix GTP, but it is more comfortable. The dashboard doesn’t look like that of an F-16, but it is attractive and functional. And there are other amenities like an unbeatable climate control system, the On Star system, and traction control that make this car well worth the money. If someone has had a bad experience with a late model Regal, they may have a lemon, or poor maintenance habits. But the Regal I got has and is servicing me well.

Strength:

Good looking, Nice Power, Good Gas Mileage, LOTS and LOTS of leg room.

Weakness:

NO convertable option. The car would have looked great as a convertable. Needed a 5 speed...

Overall impression with the car is outstanding. Good gas mileage, power, reliablity and, good looking to top it off. When I first got the car, I thought that I had gotten a bad deal because it seemed as nothing worked on it. After some time however I realized that it was the easiest car that I have ever had to work on. I would rate this car as one of the best buys that I have ever made. It paid for itself in about 6 months though because of all the fun that was had in the car. It was great fun in the snow and ice and it had no traction problems at all. I didn't realize how much I apprecited that car until I got rid of it.

It is by no means similar to the Mazda that I drive now. And there is no comparison becasue, the Regal would win everytime.

Strength:

Lots of visibility. Comfortable. No rust. Bum warmers. Climate control. Fast speed. Luxury car.

Weakness:

When starting the car it sometimes dies/stalls. We've had the computer replaced in the car (on warranty) and it still stalls unexpectedly. We were in the middle of a turn and the car died, VERY DANGEROUS! They don't know what's wrong and because of this dangerous problem we have to buy a new car. Awkward to get CD's out of consoles because tapes are on top, you have to take out all tapes to get to the CDs.

I love this car to bits! It looks great, the ride is soft and comfortable. The Midnight blue is gorgeous. Lots of visibility. Great controls once you get used to them. Climate control is great for different people. Very expensive if you buy new, but we bought used and the previous owner was an elderly gentleman who took great care of it. Looks really slick with tinted windows. The body shape is very nice and fancy looking. The back seat is comfortable, but the armrest is awkward. Cup holders tend to pop out at the slightest touch. Cd & tape holder in the console is awkward, you have to take out all of the tapes to get to a CD.

Strength:

Comfortable, nice looking, great ""get-up-and-go"", reliable, handles well on all types of roads, few to no problems since I've owned it

Weakness:

Poor design of cup holders in front, rearview mirror hits against sunvisors at certain angles, appears to be heavier than one would expect which makes for longer stops.

(1999 Model) - I've been down the SUV and minivan route and was ready to have a ""comfortable"" yet responsive car - and the Buick Regal has been everything I wanted - for a reasonable price. It truly is not ""my father's Buick."" It's got great pick-up and enters the interstate traffic with no problem, which is no small feat when encountering traffic in the Austin, TX area! The seating in both the front and back is substantial, yet it doesn't feel like you're driving a tank! I've driven my dad's Buick LaSabre and it doesn't begin to compare to my Regal. The Regal has ""tight"" handling that allows the driver to feel the road - not like the other Buick's that seem to be ""floating"" above the road. I've recommended this model to many people and will seriously consider the Regal again in a few years. Hopefully the designers will fix the few flaws and keep the good traits.

Strength:

Powertrain - engine VERY powerful. Transmission works really well. This is a very quite combination. Barley whispers as you pull away, and purrs when you floor it.
Interior - Very comfy, room for 5. Heated seats are great, dual air is great, sound system is great, sunroof is great.
Trunk - HUGE, HUGE, HUGE....can get luggage for 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 deck chairs, golf bag in and still have room for more.
Exterior - Sleeper of the decade. No chessy plastic crap add-ons like the Grand Prix. British Racing green or Dark jade green, whatever colour it is, it is beautiful. Chrome wheels are a nice touch

Weakness:

Every car has them, but these are just minor......
Traction control - much to intrusive, although it's easy to see why they made it so - just switch it off, mash the gas and you will lay down to very long strips of black tire rubber on your way to 60mph!
Speed limiter - AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH why does this car have a 118mph speed limiter. It has z-rated tires and 240hp!!! This speed limiter drives me crazy!....If anyone knows where I can get a chip to remove the limiter please e-mail me.
Exceleration - not a weakness, but i find it hard to go slow in this car and as it cruises so silently it is often hard to keep anywhere need the posted speed limits.

WOW!!! What can I say....I've driven and owned some very fast cars in my time, but this is the absolute best. Dark green with a tan leather interior, sunroof, heated seats, dual air, power everything. Did i mention it was fast!!! 240hp 280ft/lbs torque 0-60 in 6.4 seconds!!! Leaves just about everything looking at its tail lights.
What's the big deal with the age thing here??? I'm 31 and this is the best family hauler (emphsis on hauling ass!!) car out there!!

Similar Products Used:

1999 Alero V6 - okay car, quite quick, but problems started to occur and dealer service not good and of course oldsmobile are dead, so getting parts already a problem.
1995 Taurus SHO 5spd - fast (slower than GS) bullet proof motor (built by Yamaha) but the rest of the car was a piece of ford crap. Clutch was bad and didn't last long, car ratteled like a cheap yugo and although the motor was a jem at high rpm, you really had to trash it to get it to go fast.
1990 Bonneville SSE - nice car, quite slow.
1991 Dodge Spirit R/T Turbo - another very fast car, but was a handling nightmare. can you say TORQUE STEER - if you need an upper body work out then find one of these cars. A very peaky turbo engine.
1986 Turbo Lebaron GTS - quite quick on its way to the mechanic.
1980 Chev Monte Carlo 350 - kept ESSO profits up for years.

Strength:

Lots of Power!!! Great stereo system by monsoon with 220 watts of RMS Power. Transmission response is great, even under strong acceleration. Seats are comfortable even for a person who is 320 pounds and 6 and a half feet tall. Not only that but the power seat adjusts with no hesitation with all that weight. Trunk has no obstructions by trunk lid hinges, and providing better loading the trunk lid opens at 90 degrees. Warranty service is great. The paint quality is great. The sunroof slides all the way back unlike many cars which stop three quarters of the way back.

Weakness:

Leather could have better quality. Speakers are so powerfull that many of the interior surfaces rattle; Buick needs to fix this. Electronic climate control screen blew out on me. The radio switches and window switches were designed very poorly. The paint on the buttons wore off to reveal white color during the day and green glow at night. However, the car was still under warranty at 25,000 miles and the dealer did not hesitate to replace the affected components. Handling could be better. Rear armrest is too big to use for most passengers and is too low for comfort. However, in models 2000 and up this was fixed and a folding rear seatback was installed as well.

I love this car. It is very comfortable and has great features. I recommend this car to anyone. The car has a lot of power. The engine purrs at any speed. When the gas pedal is pressed the transmission shifts down in less than a second. Floor the gas at 80 MPH and this car will shift into second gear and take you to 92 MPH and shift to three and again you are accelerating just as fast as you were in second. If this car did not have a speed limiter I'd bet you could approach speeds of 145-150 MPH.
The 3800 series 2 has had a lot of good ratings I have not seen any ratings on the supercharged model which mine is. In fact I was reading in a magazine that the normally aspirated 3800 series engine in the new impala police cars has done successful tests to 400,000 miles;with curb hopping. However, the front end suspension in the police cars are reinforced with steel. I personally love the supercharger. The supercharger will kick in if you get the feel of the car at just about any speed but you don't always use the supercharger unless you provoke it. I know this because there is a gauge in the driver information panel in the instrument cluster.
By the way if I have convinced you to look into the supercharged model always remember to use 93 octane gasoline and to get the oil checked in the supercharger every 30,000 miles. You cannot check the supercharger oil yourself a technician must do it! And, another thing if that supercharger ever breaks it means money to fix it up to $3,000 with labor. Fortunately, I have never had a problem and it does not seem like it will be an issue in the future.
I gaurantee that you will be happy with this car especially since you can look at all of those sports cars you can blow the doors off of and say to yourself ha ha my insurance is way cheaper! I feel my rating is good because the cars price was a steal for what you get: high performance low maintenence engine, leather sunroof, cool rims, fat tires, power everything, and to me the best factory stereo I have ever heard even better than Bose. Some of the things in this car could have been better therefore I gave it a four star overall rating.

Strength:

All of the creature comforts on this car are great. With every possible option on this car I have really gotten use to all of the automatic features such as auto climate control and automatic headlights. It will be hard to give up these features on my next purchase.
Gas mileage is great for a car of this size, with a V6 engine. A very smooth, quite ride with great visibility. The audio system includes both a CD-player and a cassette and I really like the audio controls provided on the steering wheel. Plus, the steering mounted controls are illuminated at night, which is not the case on my other car. Buick has also added a lot of sound suppression material that yields a very quiet ride and the theather seating in the back seat gives passengers a good view of the road. The trunk space is very sufficent and it's traction in the snow is good with the factory provided all season tires.

Weakness:

- I would prefer a stiffer suspension and handling even though I have the Grand Touring suspension.
- A radio display that displayed the time and current radio station at the same time would be nice.

Overall I am very satisfied with this car. If it's handling was more precise with a little more road feel I would probably rank it as one of the best cars that I have owned. But the "boulevard ride" has just a little too much sway on a winding road at 55 mph. Other than that I would recommend this car to anyone in the market for a mid-sized luxury car the won't break the bank. I disagree with a major consumer magazine that rated the Regal at the bottom of the all the family sedans this car has many virtues that have been underrated. My Regal has every option except for heated seats and the optional trip / performance computer. It’s a great touring car on the express ways getting close to 30 mpg from the 3.8 liter engine. Around town, driving mostly suburban streets a consistent 20 mpg is really good for a V6 that always provides enough power for any situation. One feature that is never mentioned in many reviews is the great visibility that the Regal has at night. The head lights provide the best road illumination of any car that I have owned and the side turning lamps light up the side of road when making a turn. Also the visibility out the sides of the car is excellent, with a very small blind spot over either shoulder.
