Strength:

A convincing case for never, ever buying American again.

Weakness:

Unsafe at any speed.

This is, without a doubt, the worst car I have ever owned. In the last six months, I have replaced the fuel pump, the TRANSMISSION, and now the head gasket. I spend more money per year fixing the car vs. paying for it.

Strength:

Sturdy drive train with smooth auto shifting. Decent power for a 4 cylinder engine. With a 2800 lb curb weight, this car has a good power-to-weight ratio. Enough room for 5'9" person but my 6'2" cannot sit in my front passenger seat without his legs pressed on the dash.

Weakness:

Power window for a driver's side (I feel I may need to visit a dealer to fix this before I stopps working altogether. But, since the window still goes up and down with some straggles, I may need to wait for the total system failure before a dealer will fix this under warranty. Sqeaking noise in the rear shocks areas when the supsension compenents move at the bumpy corner or pot holes.

This is my sencond entry to this site. Now at 4200 miles on the meter after 7 months, I have not been able to drive this car that much because I have a company car during the day. So far, the drive train is good with a decent pick up and smooth GM 4 speed auto. However, I started noticing two things I am getting worried. First, the driver's side power window does not move smoothly when it is cold outside. No problem with the passenger side, though. Since it sometimes stops right in the middle on the track, I will think twice before I lower my driver side window in the rain (or before I park my car overnight in the parking lot). The other thing is a little rattling sound at the rear shocks. Even though it is not that loud but it is very audible. Maybe this is one of those chassis squeaks.

Strength:

Very sporty Heater/Defrost work well

Weakness:

Not very reliable Poor construction Cup holders Factory Warrenty not backed by chevy Basically the whole car

Bought this car brand new in May 2002. The car ran fine for about 5,000 miles and then the problems came. The car has bad hesitation on take off, lack of power, sometimes you can get the brakes to work properly, makes a bad popping noise, and windshield washer fluid bottles kept leaking. I took my car to the Chevy service dept. where i purchased this car. From the beginning the service dept. was very rude to me. They found problems with it but would not service it because my service light never came on. I would not recommend this car to anyone unless you have enough money to get out from underneath it once you purchase it. I would've expected more from a Chevy and i don't think i will purchase another chevy product.

Strength:

Good pickup. No major problems other than what I explained. The Dealership was good about trying to fix it and letting me use a "rental".

Weakness:

Starter...or whatever the problem is.

I bought my Cavalier in Sept. of 2000. I loved the car in the beginning. Then the starting problems started. Sometimes it would start, sometimes it wouldnt, sometimes it would hesitate..ect. Well I must have had that car in the dealership 20 times. Always fond something they thought was wrong, never fixed it. Finally replaced the starter thinking it was fixed...nope..I still have problems with it and know that Im at almost 40K Im waiting for the more expensive repairs to come in. Overal I like my car, but cant get rid of it due to the fact that its only worth about 4000 now. I over payed for this car..I kick myself in the butt all the time. Good Luck with ur Cavaliers.

Strength:

Lots of options for good price, economical. Handles nicely. Good ABS. Nice looking.

Weakness:

EGR Valve problems, feels sluggish sometimes like the rubberband is winding too tightly!

This is my 3rd Cavalier but I am out growing it now that Im over 35! I generally like Cavaliers but this one Ive had many problems with. Mostly with the EGR Valve getting clogged & leaving me stranded numerous times (at least 6 in 4 yrs) that is too many. Just recently my transmission light came on & it wasnt chifting into 2nd gear. Dealership has been good trying to fix the recurring problem. I ma now looking at a Century or just something bigger that rides better & is less noisy inside. Cupholders are inconvenient & not deep enough but sunroof & power locks & windows are nice & I love the keyless remote. Nice cd player & good sound. Good value for a younger driver (20ish)

Strength:

Excellent takeoff and speed. Better if I had a 5-speed. Excellent in snow. I call thi car my "Little Tank." In West Virginia we have a lot of snow in the winter and I have never had a problem getting around. Great handliing curves at high rates of speed. No problem getting up and go when passing another vehicle. Power sunroof is definitely a plus, tinted windows also a plus.

Weakness:

Transmission was replaced by GM before warranty was up and once by me in August of 2001. Transmission is now as strong as it should be. Should have a V-6 motor instead of the 2.4 liter little 4-cylinder. The car would zoom with a 6 cylinder.

I love this car. It had 52,000 miles when I bought it, now has 121,000. I will buy another Z-24 when I need a new car. Bought this car for the looks and was really surprised with the performance. I added some extras for the look of the vehicle like tinted headlight and taillight covers, ventvisors on doors and sunroof, back window and a bra on the hood. This adds a distinct look to the character of the car. Installed a K & N air filter.

Strength:

acceleration, room, dependability, comfortable ride

Weakness:

braking, passing power, a/c stereo

I got my Red Chevy Cavalier coupe at the beginning of 2002. It has been a very reliable and fun car. it has decent off the line acceleration but passing power is somewhat lacking. I'm 6'1" and the seating position is great. The back is a little cramped but that the price you pay for a coupe. The brakes are good i've used them in more of my share of emergency stops from not paying attention and i haven't hit anyone yet. The 15 inch wheels are a little smallish but give good grip on the road. One of my few gripes is that the a/c doesn't work and the heater only blows on the highest fan setting. its all or nothing. this car however heats up a quick as any car ive ever driven and the rear defrost works quickly. ive asked about the a/c and its not a common problem just a dishonest seller who knew to sell in the winter so the a/c would seem like a non issue.

Strength:

Nice looking- sunroof, stereo rocks (for factory unit) RDS system- cd,cassette and speakers are a good match

Weakness:

hate the break away mirrors- Victory Red should have had some more accent color- too red-

Borrow 2002 Chevy Caviler Z-24 for the weekend to test drive for the wife. We have a 2002 Avalanche and she wanted a newr run-about. Loaded 2002, paid 11,000 out the door, tax, tag, title and only had 9600 miles on it. Met the previous owners. older couple- at that. Great running, got the remainder of warranty, looks cool (For a chick car) and was really impressed by the stereo GM put in a low cost production car- I guess they need that and the Z-24 package to sell Cavilers to the younger crouwd (were in our 30's adn into SUV's) but needed a run about for shopping, soccer and school functions. Again- at the price we got it for (helps to know the dealers owner and managers) it was a steal- I love it and my wife is very happy. Plan to place a K&N and some other litle upgrades for performance but overall a 5 of 5 on my scale- I will re eval my thinking at 25K miles and again at 50 to se if it holdss its tightness and feeling as well.

Strength:

Good look, great safety features, quick acceleration, very good gas milage.

Weakness:

Heard of other Cavalier's having the head gasket problem.

Its been a great car for me. Survived a major accident when a pickup decided to make a left turn in front of me while I was going 60 mph. Car was fixed and ran fine after. Did have major problem with a cracked head gasket a few years back, but that was fixed and the car runs fine.
