Strength:

Comfortable front seats. Somewhat quick off the line. Ample room in glove box. If the trunk hinges aren't impeded you can actually get a fair amount of stuff in there. I filled it with an army issue duffel bag, another huge duffel, a rucksack with frame, garment bag and a smaller backpack. Wasn't easy. Gas mileage was OK. I liked the paint job. It beats the 1986 VW Gulf I drove in Germany. (But just barely)

Weakness:

Cup holders located right in front of climate controls. You have to reach between and around cups, bottles or whatever to make adjustments. High engine and road noise. Loose handling is rough on front tires. Seat adjustment is clunky. Exterior trim pieces are already beginning to pit and fade. Rear bumper needs a guard to protect from scratching while placing or removing items in trunk. Windshield defroster vent located dead smack in the center tacks a while to defrost/defog entire windshield. THe A/C takes forever to cool the car down. Better off driving with the windows down so it doesn't rob anymore power from the already weak engine. No inside controls for side mirror adjustments. The motor assembly for the power sunroof is rather large and tends to intrude on cockpit space. It draws a lot of "What the hell is that thing?" type statements from passengers. Man I could go on. Frankly< I believe that I'm paying too much for this car. I should have bought a Focus or Neon. And the fact that the new car market is flooded with these 0% APR no money down sales events means that there is next to no market for used cars, essentially my 2002 isn't worth crap.

This particular cavalier has only 17800 miles on it. I have owned this car since purchased in Oct. 2002. I'm not impressed. You get what you pay for. Sometimes less.

Strength:

Very reliable car

Weakness:

Starter

I bought this car new in 1989 and it now has 260,000 miles on it. I bought it because I wanted a new car and this one was the cheapest out there. I have never had to do any major repairs on it in the 14 years I have had it. It still has the original engine. The only repairs I have made on it are the usual brakes, starter, alternator. In the 14 years I have only broken down about 4 times and each time it was either the starter or alteernator.

Like a rock! Very sturdy car, okay styling. The ultimate rental car.

Weakness:

Sounds like a truck, poor handling, cheap GM parts all over the thing. Stone-age suspension, weak engine for it's size, horrible ratings...should I continue?

I'm not dumb enough to buy this car, but I was stuck with this car while my car was in the shop. Almost went off the road a couple times, because it's lack of handling. Forget that, it sounds like a truck. The true mark of a lemon car. Engine size does not matter, 2.2 liter in this car is a joke. I'll take a Civic over this pile of junk any day.

Strength:

Peppy.....plenty of power. Looks good until about 70k, unless you are rich and can have it fully "restored" Always dependable in cold weather. Traction control nice....until you have to replace it....like I have. Cheap to buy...expensive to maintain. If you need a cheap car, this is the one, but, be sure to be saving money, so, when the car starts to fall apart, you can buy another car.

Weakness:

Rattly, cramped, cheaply made, tire eater, expensive to keep in good condition, outer trim not suitable for weather of any kind. Chevy is not truthful in their maintenance promises (paint, coolant, plugs/wires) Their warranty is a waste of money. My car sucks, and there is nothing I can do about it, and I have put so much money into it, and cannot trade it in, even though it is practically new again. A person pays thousands for the car, and can only get a couple thousand for trade-in!!!

I bought this car in 2001, being only a couple years old, I thought this car would be perfect...not a new car price, but, great quality otherwise. Boy.....I was fooled!!! I have had so many problems with this car that I would accidentally leave the car in neutral and let it roll off a cliff, if I knew my insurance would cover it. It is a great looking car...very peppy, but, every 1000 miles I have put on it, I have to spend a few hundred dollars to keep it up. At 82k, I have spent so much on it that I could have bought a new luxury car. Problems include: Driver's side door leaks air. Seals checked. they are fine. I have had to have the door adjusted many times since I have owned my junker. The plugs and wires were warrantied for 100k....wrong...replaced then at 50k. Engine coolant=150k WRONG 60k. Also had to replace the brakes, calipers, rotors, drums. The car eats tires. the trim on the car is fading, and I wax and take excellent care of the car. My dash cracked at 60k. My radio died at 70k. I have had to have seals replaced in the motor. This isn't a car that I could recommend to anyone. Sorry Chevy!!

Strength:

1.- good millage per galon 2.- Low Maintenance 3.- Spare parts not expensive 4.- It's a CHEVY.

Weakness:

Not very fast (4 cylinders), not a lot of room on the back seat. Small trunk, but what do you expect from a small car !!!

It's a very nice dependable car. I rebuilt the engine at 185,000 (good for a 2.0 four cylinders). In my town there are a lot of stop signs and even though, the mileage per gallon is pretty good. My car wasn't fuel injection so it wasn't very fast. I recommend to buy this car if you are not going to use it as family car (too small). It's a good choice for you "first car".

the cupholders suck it can only hold a biggie cup from wendy's it can't hold a spring water bottle.I just use it for a ashtray I do not even have a ciggarette lighter.another bad feature when you shift from park to drive or reverse, because the display is in the gauges and sometimes the steering wheel blocks that sometimes I think im in drive when im really in neutral :(

In august 2002 I purchased a preowned 1999 chevrolet cavalier 4 door sedan from richard lucas chevrolet in woodbridge,nj.its a very good car but im going to break down the good and the bad about the cavalier.

Strength:

I no longer own this car.

Weakness:

1. The car had issues, that didn't seem as if they could be resolved, see summary. 2. Dealership that car was purchased from did not assist or follow with the complaints/concerns. 3. Other dealerships, Service dept. was unsatisfactory. 4. Chevy did not send courtesy discount service coupons and/or the customer satisfaction survey initially. 5. The 1-800 Chevy # did not send the service discount coupons and/or the courtesy oil change coupons for the dissatisfaction, as they promised. 6. No trade-in value. 7. Had to trade-in at 10 months old, in order obtain a car without issues.

10 months ago I purchased a Cavalier LS model (brand new). Problems included: no power steering, broken power steering.....; a/c drain clogged....; mold and mildew in carpet and padding repeatedly.....; not to forget to mention that the car had leaking issues in the trunk and in the car (that the service dept. never could find in order to repair it). I was told that their was water on the floor and under the seats when the carpet and padding was being re-replaced, but if I could find the leak and prove it they would fix it. Go figure? That pretty much summed up my overall experience with this car and the chevy support(unbelievable and very, very disappointing)!!! From the beginning, I never received any of the courtesy customer satisfaction surveys and service discount coupons, which I was told by the dealership that I would receive. As time went by, and problems seemed to develop and/or worsen, the dealership that I purchased the car from did not follow up with my concerns when emailed or called. The local dealership that I used for repairs was unsatisfactory. When I complained to the 1-800 chevy #, they offered only courtesy certificates, such as courtesy oil changes for the dissatisfation and/or the usual typical thank you for purchasing our product discount service coupons... Which I never received, initially or after the 1-800# offered them. I was not surprised when I did not recieve them and actually never expected to recieve these coupons, as history seemed to be repeating itself, at every level......... Finally, I was so unsatisfied with this overall experience that I ended up trading off the car to avoid knowing what else might have been or would have gone wrong with the car. Friends, relatives and fellow workers which smelled, heard and saw the problems have all commented that they will never purchase a chevy product. I know that I will never purchase another chevy. As the last insult,I ended up taking a major loss due to the lack of trade in value on the cavalier . This overall experience, was not what I expected from a chevy product or the chevy company. I could have hoped for a better overall experience, especially for a brand new car.
