Gas milage was excellant. I could go to my mother's house 200 miles away and back and still have a half a tank of gas. Dependable (for the most part) It never left me stuck out somewhere, of course it also had a habbit of dying in the driveway when it did die ;)

Weakness:

Whatever that small computer piece was that made it die when I put it into drive. That happened twice in two years. Fuel pump replacement got old and the ceiling stuff coming out wasn't fun, either.

A good car, if you're not going for looks. I got mine when I was seventeen and it lasted until I was 22, and would have lasted longer if I hadn't traded it just last night. When I bought it it had 74K miles on it, and when I traded it had 122K. There was a lot of little things (and some bigger towards trade time) that went on it, though. I had to replace the fuel pump about three times, I went through a lot of tires, the struts/shocks needed replaced badly, the paint chipped, the ceiling padding came out, down and everywhere. Black stuff was all the time spitting out of the heater in the mornings (still not sure about that one), something that I can't remember the name of at the moment went out a couple of years ago and every time I put the car into drive it would die. That took a lot of money and time in the shop to get fixed. But that's really the only major thing that went out. Had to replace the alternator twice, the battery twice, windshield wipers twice, and the raditor hose a couple of years ago. The back speakers stopped working about a year ago, I never did get that fixed. And then a couple of weeks ago the driver side window suddenly didn't want to roll back up. I think it had came off the track or something. The AC went out the summer before last (that sucked!) but the heater worked great up until I got rid of it. It had some scrapes and bruises, torn seats (four six year olds tend to be rough on seats) and food stains -- but it was a good little car. The transmission acted like it was about to go when I got rid of it, though. But I'm not sure. All in all, I put that car through hell and back and it was good to me, so I'd recommend it.

Strength:

Styling (exterior), engine power,

Weakness:

interior, transmission (if your expecting it to shift like a honda)

0-60mph in 7.9 seconds. With styling that will compete with any sports coupe out there this was an obvious choice for a sporty practical vehicle. the engine is more than i ever could have expected out of a cavalier, 150 hp and 155 ft-lbs of tourque, all in a car that weighs around 2600 lbs. The car looks great and drives well (for a north american car), handles well even at 160k/h (100mph) and doesnt take long to get there. Manual transmission is a bit slugish, but it is an american car. If you go from a japanese car to this youll be disapointed in the transmission, you cant downshift into first and it does give a bit of resistance if it doesnt want to go into a gear. this is only for the isuzu 5 speed, i haven't driven the getrag 5 speed yet. this car comes with a power sunroof, speed compensated volume (youll need it becasue at high rpm it screams), cruise control, power windows (i chose not to get these because the buttons look crappy), keyless entry (didnt want that either), folding rear seat, full back seat (wont find that on an integra/celica), fog lights etc. the only real problem is the interior, it has the neccesities and is definalty functional, it just looks like crap and doesnt give it that sports car feel. GM cars lose there value fast so 3 years used its about half what it was new with barly any km (40,000) and because its a z24 it will never go below 5,000 so i can drive it for 5 years sell it and still have a down payment for my next ride.

Strength:

-- Good looks. I think my '97 looks better than either of the newer iterations. -- Aftermarked parts availability/cost. It's a Chevy, after all, and there are umpteen-million of 'em on the road. -- Engine. Smooth and tractable from 1,000 RPM to redline.

Weakness:

-- Ride quality. Pretty unrefined. -- Resale value. Lost half it's value in two years -- OEM parts costs. Dealer parts prices are insane.

I bought this car new as a demo with 3,800 miles on it. It's a manual transmission with every available option. Not what I went shopping for but it's what they had and I'm satisfied. I've got almost 100,000 miles on it now and the only major problem I've had is the water pump at 50,000 miles. I was rather upset at the design that required seemingly the whole engine be disassembled to replace it. The job runs about $700 (?!?) at my local mechanic. The dealer wanted significantly more (I don't remember how much). How about a simpler design, Chevy? Had to have the left front and right rear struts replaced under warranty because they rattled in their mounts. The paint on the windshield wipers flaked off in less than a year and the wiper fluid hoses freeze solid in the winter time making it impossible to wash my window. I'm still on the original manual transmission and clutch. Interesting considering the dealership tried to sell me an extended warranty based on the fact that "these transmissions don't last longer than 60,000 miles usually." Hmmm... I change the oil with synthetic every 5,000 miles and as of now have to add one quart every 2,500 miles. Not bad for 98,000 miles on the engine. I replaced the front brake pads twice and had the front rotors turned twice to clear up warpage likely caused by my washing the car with hot brakes. I've avoided washing it with hot brakes since the last turning and have had no further problems. I replaced both front wheel bearings and the passenger side half shaft (an updated version put out by GM) myself in an attempt to cure a grinding noise when going around left-hand turns. Turned out to be the power steering pump was starving for fluid due to low fluid level. Easy to fix, but aggrivating none the less. At least the repairs I did were relatively easy to do myself. The paint has weathered quite well. I've kept it waxed at least once a year and it still cleans up almost like new. I got over 65,000 miles out of the OEM Goodyear tires. They didn't stick like glue, but the mileage benifit was worth it to me. I've got a further 30,000 miles on a set of Dunlop D60 A2's that are now about 1/2 to 2/3 worn. I was rather pleased to receive a call from the quality department at the manufacturing plant (my car was US built) in the first six months after my purchase. I never have seen many assembly relate

Strength:

Good gas mileage. Very dependable. Z-24 has enough 'coolness' factor for a teen.

Weakness:

Paint on 'nose' seems to be chipped a little excessively (needs a bra). Had to have front brakes/rotors replaced (not bad for a car with 95K on it, tho). Hard on those low-profile tires. Think he said the other day it may need a shock and/or tie rod on the right front. Rides a little rough and somewhat noisy, but not bad for an inexpensive car.

This has been a pretty decent car for our teenage son. It had 65K on it when purchased (it was a 'one-owner' auto when we bought it). It now has 95K on it (and he's probably not very easy on it...if it wasn't an automatic, I suspect we'd have had to replace a clutch or two by now!). It is still a strong car, and handles well. I'd recommend it favorably.

Strength:

Air Cond cooled within seconds. Heat worked nicely. Gas was excellent. ABS worked excellent. Tons of driver/passenger room. Everything was on keyless entry remote. Very roomy trunk. CD player/system caused ZERO problems. No electrical problems, no major engine repairs and no minor complaints. So much was standard that you'll find you have to pay extra for on other competitors. If you take good care of your car, the car will take good care of you.

Weakness:

Heavy doors on the 2000 coupe. Other than that, it was a great vehicle to own.

Due to accident this past september I dont have it, but it was so so good to me. I walked away from a highway accident, pushed from behind into car in front of me. It stood up to its duty and kept me from being hurt. I recommend it just for that.

Strength:

Great price, lots of standard features, good fuel mileage, sleek appearance on the top-line LS Sport models.

Weakness:

Extremely poor handling, cheap paint job, poor brakes due to rear drums and fairly small diameter front discs.

The Chevrolet Cavalier it the leading car in its class, offering the most standard features at a reasonable price, however, it lacks performance.

Weakness:

Blind spot in driver seat

I loved this car from the moment I saw it in the show room!! It is great in gas miles, and is fun to drive. It has great pick up and is roomy. The only complaint that I have is there are blind spots when you are looking right or left at a stop sign.

Extremely reliable. The only major problem was the fuel pump needing replacement after 9 years! I have been VERY fortunate with this car. All repairs have been due to normal wear and tear.

Weakness:

paint chipping on trunk, the 4 cylinder rattle and vibrations, needs brake pads about 2 times a year.

Unbelievably reliable! Bought this car used in 1998. It had 53,000 miles on it and now has 117,000 and going still going strong! I must have got a hold of one of the "good ones!" :)

Year 1-5 great radio; now the radio is staticky but it is LOUD and I guess I could get it fixed Pretty reliable Looks okay

Weakness:

Instead of weaknesses I'll call them repairs and let you be the judge: First year, cassette player ate my tape (covered under warranty) Fifth year, radio got so much static that I no longer could use the front speakers The sun has melted the brake light. The metal gets so hot in the door that it burns you. Signal light had to be replaced Ignition switch had to be replaced (car would stop in the middle of the road for no reason Transmission converter had to be replaced Alternator has to be replaced every two (2) years Coolant reservoir replaced in the fifth and seventh year Temperature gauge has to be replaced every other year New tensioner New head gaskets Radiator hoses have to be replaced every other year Brake system replaced in 1999 Brake pads at every 7500 miles Have had to replace the batteries twice Paint faded started in the fifth year Electric Door Locks stopped working in the 5th year Gray seats started turning pink due to the sun Interior rubber has breaks here and there The exterior of the car has rust here and there and everywhere

Reviews have helped me a lot in my quest for a new car so I thought I would share my thoughts on my 1993 Cavalier. I have had this car since it's birth. It has been very dependable.
