Cavalier Z24
Strength:
acceleration (Z24 5spd), appearance, price, ride
Weakness:
Paint quality is only major complaint I think the Z24 is THE best value and bang for the buck. In a 5spd manual, it's really quite quick. Much quicker than I thought it would be. Gas mileage is pretty good. I average 26mpg. Civic's beat it out in that catagory. I got the upgraded sound system with CD and tape player, along with a power sunroof and the purchase price was still only $15,350 plus tax. Had a $2,000 rebate at time of purchase and haggled dealer down an additional $500, so $17,850 became $15,350. My one biggest complaint is the paint quality. It's really bad. Getting it in black made it worse. It's only 11 months old and the paint isn't close to as shiny as it should be and already has water mark stains. One minor complaint is the safety to get the manual shifter into reverse. You have to remember to tell the valet, or someone else borrowing the car, because no one knows about the safety or can figure it out. Chevy - if you're reading this - get rid of that damn safety release!!! There's 3 things I'd like to see offered that currently isn't offered. 1) Leather wrapped steering wheel 2) Monsoon sound system offered in the Sunfire (not as good looking) but not in the Cavalier. 3) Split folding rear seat, not just single folding. The coupe has more rear seat space than you'd imagine and can fit an adult reasonably comfortably. Overall, I can't believe this is a Cavalier, looking at what kind of cars they were 15 years ago. They've come a LONG way!!! Similar Products Used: Looks better than competition and is very competitively priced (especially factoring in standard anti-lock brakes). Lags a little in fuel economy and some competitors offer leather wrapped steering wheel and better sound systems, though the upgraded system in the Z24 isn't bad at all. |

cavalier sedan, 4 cyl.
Strength:
I love my car, first off, If you actually change your oil every 3000 miles, its runs strong and hard. It hauls ass and pick up is very good. I replaced the battery, only because i left the lights on all night. Cheap, sporty looking and easy to modify. Great gas mileage, 10 bucks almost fills the tank
Weakness:
The scratch on the side, And i broke the seatbelt holder. This car is great for anyones who wants a reliable car at an easy price. The insurance premiums are low. If you take car of it, you'll love it forever. I highly recommend the 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier!!!! Similar Products Used: It destroys all hondas, and crappy foreign cars. I will smoke in a race anyday of the week, raining snowing, doesn't matter. |

Strength:
It looks nice, rides nice, and it has a lot of cup holders. It also gets really good gas mileage. I can make it from SC to OH(about 11 hours)and only stop once for fuel.
Weakness:
It doesn't accelerate like a v6 car, but everyone that buys one should all ready know that. I paid $14500 for it and I reallly like it. It handles well, smooth ride, and is a very realible car. If you take care of it, it could last many many years. Another plus is the A/C gets really cold, which is good on those hot and humid days down here in SC. Cavalier Z24
Strength:
Nice features for the money, I got the completely loaded model. Sunroof, cd,power windows, power locks, etc. Great power from the 2.4L engine. I have a 5-speed, and it will take down the older V6 mustangs. Reliability is great so far, my fiance has a 95 Z24 with the Quad 4 in it and her car has been great. She had a saturn before that and it was junk. The only thing that we have done to her car is put a transmission speed sensor in it. (All under warranty of coarse, I am a salesman at a large dealership and would never buy a used car without a warrenty. Reliability all depends about what engine you get. If you buy a cavalier with the 2.2L engine then you are asking for trouble. It is a dated pushrod design that does not hold up for the long haul and is very coarse in it's operation. Definatly recommend the Quad 4 or the 2.4L Twin Cam.
Weakness:
The automatics are very nice transmissions. My fiance has one in hers and it shifts smoothly and without fuss. I must admit that the manual is a little rubbery in it's movement, although it does get the job done. I will be putting a short-throw shifter in it and a different shift knob. (I hate the shift knob that comes on them from the factory) I work at a large dealership, so naturally any car that I buy I am going to "steal" it. I paid $9500 for the car with only 29,000 miles on it. To give you an idea of the deal that I got on the car, N.A.D.A. on the car is $15,200. First, the dealership stole it, and then I did. Ah, the joys of being a car salesman. Yes, I would recommend the car to anyone who wants a lot of value for the dollar. My girlfriend and I also own a 95 Z24 with 73,000 miles on it and it still runs as good as mine does. We are very happy with our vehicles. A 2.2L cavalier, in all honesty, is not worth buying. The engines absolutely suck. GET THE Z24 or the 2.4L ENGINE OPT. Take care of the car, and it will take care of you. The only reason I would not recommend the cavalier is if you have a family consisting of more that two people, the back seat is not the roomiest. Besides that, I say buy one! Similar Products Used: 91 Mazda RX-7, the cavalier kicks this car's you know what. The RX-7 only had 28,000 miles when the first engine was replaced, and 62,000 when the 2nd engine needed to be replaced, and I was very meticulous about the maintenance, always checked/added oil at 500 mile intervals. That car was a absolute nightmare. Before that I had a 85 300zx. That car was a good car, I sold it with almost 174,000 miles on it! I have seen older Quad 4 powered Gm's come on my lot with around 200,000 miles on them and they seem to still run ok. It all depends on how you maintain your car. Anyway, my Z24 is the newest and best car that I have owned to this point. |

Looks sweet! I like the new head and tail lights! Sweet Rims!
Weakness:
Quality? 14600 + Tax, family member works for GM. Overall I guess it's worth the money, I like the power of the 2.4L Engine, wish I could have found a 5 speed but they are no where atleast around here. I live in GM country and I was skeptical in buying this car because I know a lot of drunks and drug addicts that build these things! Scary!! I use this car for commuting 120 miles a day for work. Quality is poor, no question there. Look I would recommend a japanese car before this(toyota, nissan, honda) I would buy a cavalier over a ford, kia, daewoo(daewoo? don't they make crappy $75 vcr's that break a week after you have them?) hyundai, well i think you get the picture. Strength:
fast off the line, beat all comparable import cars(stock)
Weakness:
has a stupid governer on it, top speed (107) I love the car. Handles good. When I first bought the car, I thought that it wouldn't handle that well in the snow compared to my Jeep, there was no comparison, the Jeep handled much better with 4wd, but I was surprized, it handled much better than I expected. It is a total chick magnet, girls love the car. The car is much faster than the Civic, or Neon off the line, and once I get the performance chip (overide the governor), it will be much faster too. Overall, I am glad that I bought this car over the Neon and the Civic. I would recomend this car for everyone, it performs great for the price!
