Strength:

Nice, sporty looking car. Great gas mileage the car handles great, lot of compliments from the ladies.

Weakness:

There is some dash noise but i believe some of you already know that. I wish the styling of the car would have changed(but that's ok it still looks cool)and the radio has to change, they need to start putting better factory stuff in these things, everytime i turn it up it feels like they're going to explode. So an upgrade on a system is highly suggested.

Overall, the cavalier is a very nice dependable car. You can't beat the price on it, great gas mileage, and it looks great(especially the color i have which is a red/orange color which i have yet to see around here so i guess that makes it unique). But like other people have said "you get what you paid for", but it also applies that if you take good care of your car by doing all necassary things like oil changes, rotating tires, checking fluid levels, you will get a longer running life out of your car.

Strength:

The best quality is that it is not an expensive car.(Cheap!!)
And good on gas.

Weakness:

The plastic on the seat belts break...The rear speakers went out...The dash rattles like crazy...The AC died on us...The horn went out on us twice...When we go through water on rainy days you hear this weird electrical sound.
Now for the major things.....We have replaced the engine....The transmission...and just today the stupid car won't start, we have to get a new alternator. And for you people who say take care of your car, this car has been pampered....And has been a pain in the *** since a week after we purchased it, with just twelve miles on it!

The car is just a worthless piece of plastic! I will never buy another Chevy vehicle again. If you buy one I advise you to get extended warranties because you will need them.

Good strong torqey eingine, decent braking, tons of buying options, good price, nice wheels nice colors

Weakness:

suspension is to soft needs to stiffer. interior looks to cheap, i wish they would've left one color

If you want an american car thats worth hooking up this is the car to get. All the above cars i've raced and spanked. Ive never been beaten by a civic or a civic Si or an integra gsr. The good thing about this is that For a 4cyl., it balls its good more compression than those other dinky 4cyls. the only thing that i've done to my car is put a high flow cone filter on, not a full intake, and changed the muffler to a more free flowing one, and that alone added 25+ horeses. I can keep up with a mustang gt, even though thereover rated for an 8cyl. Even bone stock you take down an Si, if you no how drive your Z24 corectly. The down fall is the suspenion, get a sway bar and you'll be fine. oh yeah, mine is an automatic, stick shift means nothing. All i need now is an automatic quick shift kit, and i'll really have some fun. All i'm trying to say is dont you dare under estimate the Z-24 or you might find out the hard way.

Strength:

This car had any redeeming qualities?

Weakness:

Well, just about anything I can thing of that has to do with this car would be a weakness. Where to start - the 3.1 litre V6 was the most horrific engine to work on I have ever seen. Ferrari V12's have better access to the spark plugs than the Cavalier did, and I was shocked to find out that the GM dealer had only replaced four of the six plugs after I started doing my own maintenance. It handled like a tank, had seats that were as comfortable as church pews, and the dashboard ergonomics of a gas station toilet.

This car was a mistake from day 1. Built on an antiquated platform that wasn't even that good in its day, it handled like a Sherman tank. The 3.1 litre V6 was nothing short of a disapointment, and the automatic it was mated to seemed to suck any last bit of life from this mundane yacht. Repairs on this car are a nightmare - obviously Chevrolet's two ulterior motives were making it too hard for the average backyard mechanic to work on in the first place, and the built-in obsolescence that wore this car out after less than 100,000 miles. The Cavalier is a cheap car, good for those who want a long list of options bolted onto an otherwise cheap car with no redeeming quality other than its low purchase price. Then again, you get what you pay for ....

Strength:

The car is nice on gas, considering I had a Dodge Dakota before this. It handles pretty well especially in Washington DC traffic.

Weakness:

You cannot change the stereo. I bought a minidisk system and Chevy has decided its stereo is the best. Though I beg to differ. Also I absolutely positively HATE when you turn the car off the stereo stays on. HATE it!!

Overall the car is pretty decent for the price. Music is a huge part of my life and being able to change the stereo to my own would be nice.

My mom actually bought the car and had many wonderful years with the vehicle. Great power, speed and dependable

Weakness:

When something breaks it breaks.
Replaced the engine head twice, ceiling material keeps coming off, light switch, turn signals, wipers, ignition switch all had to replace. Ratiator replaced. Heater went out, bubbled the dash board. Rear window difficult to defogged.

My esperience is great when you put lots of money into it.
The car with that many miles should be expected to have some problems over time. I do admit that this car was great at its time and has proven to be a wonderful first car.

Weakness:

CRAP? We bought it new and had major problems with engine noise, weather stripping falling off, front end had to be replaced at 50,000km, brakes were crap, handled poor in snow and the back seat didn't fit child car seats properly. The customer service was crap and we usually had to take it back twice for the same thing. They refused to fix the weather stripping until we called corporate; their excuse "what do you expect? It is normal wear" this was at 20,000km.

We had more problems with our "NEW" car than we had with our "OLD" clunker. It spent toooo much time in the shop, it was uncomfortable and the service was pathetic. We dumped it after 2 years because we didn't want to have to deal with it. Bought a Caravan and haven't had a single problem with it in 2 years. Will never buy GM CRAP again.

I love the engine on this car, I have a 2000 cav. z24. It has everything! sunroof, cd/tape, alloy wheels, foglights! On those civics ex you dont get a tape player, alloy wheels, foglights, or traction control. What do you get some cheap hub caps?!

Weakness:

THE ONLY THING IS THAT IT LOUD WHEN YOU REALLY PUSH IT BUT AFTER IT GETS REALLY QUIT! -NICE!

AFTER LOOKING AROUND AT THE COMPACT CARS THE Z24 WAS THE BEST OVER ALL VALUE- BECAUSE OF ALL THE EXTRAS YOU GET AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE. GAS MILEAGE IS EXCELLENT! I LOVE BEATING THE CIVIS WHEN THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN! ITS A BLAST TO DRIVE EVERYONE SHOULD GIVE THIS GREAT CAR A TEST DRIVE THEN YOU WILL CHANGE YOUR MINE ABOUT THESE CAV.
