Strength:

White Z-24 Convertible..outside styling, affordability in a convertible (11000$ used), good handling, excellent sound system w/ CD, roomy trunk.
Peppy acceleration for the car...not like my 69 Z-28 though...good for the teenager.

Weakness:

none as of yet...take care of the car and it will take care of you...remember it's not a race car and it isn't made for that type of driving for all you kiddies out there...the old V-8s are made to be beat on...not the new delicate cars...

Excellent car from chevrolet as usual....don't go the Ford route.

Strength:

strong car , has been through hell with me.has lasted 8 years in canadian winters which is a big thing.it looks kinda sporty.went over 140,000km without a single tune up.abs brakes react very quickly

Weakness:

lack of power i think it has less than 100hp but take out catalictic converter and it gives a extra boost, speakers are a little cheap, tape deck sucks, horrible noise when converter is off(unlike the mustangs)rusts apear under the doors very fast.

cavaliers are dependable strong cars , i recommend them as familly cars. they suck when it comes to power, handling and speed. for a first car its good to learn on it. i would recommend the HONDA PRELUDE. KICK ASS CAR!!!!
but cavaliers are good for the price.

Strength:

Very sleek looking car--it caught a friend of mine's eye before he ended up buying a T-Bird, but when I saw it, I fell in love with it. It's still putting out a lot of power considering the conditions it's been in and the mileage (110,000). Handles extremely well in any conditions, even after I replaced some suspension components myself after an accident (I'm not Mr. Wrench by any means). Speaking of, it can take a hit like no other! Would have cost me two grand to get it fixed at a body shop, I had it (mostly, except for paint and bumper) back together and running again in less than a week. For the most part it's easy to work on, and parts for it are SUPER CHEAP!

Weakness:

The smell--maybe just because it's 8 years old, but it smells like a nursing home in there and even FeBreeze couldn't handle the task. Some engine components are a b**** to get to, especially the spark plugs (since the engine is turned sideways). Also, it may be due to the fact that this was my first five speed, but the engine and transmission mounts are not worth a crap now. That's most likely due to my aggressive driving, but every time I shift it feels like the engine's about to fall out. The interior could be a lot more attractive, and speaking of interior, the most annoying thing is all the squeaks and rattles inside coming from the dash. Sounds like the dash is about to fall apart into my lap.

I would recommend this car to younger buyers who are looking for their first car, so long as you can find one with lower miles. I bought mine with 85,000 on the odometer, and had EVERYTHING go wrong with it the first few months I had it. (By the way, thank you, Milford Ford, for showing me what prison sex feels like, you S.O.Bs.) However, I'm sure that I could have found a better dealer to buy from if I hadn't of acted so impusively about buying it. Make sure you check over everything and get a warranty, take good care of it and follow your scheduled maintenance, and I'm sure you'll have a car to love for quite some time.

Used to have an '89 LeBaron--it sucked compared to the Z-24. No comparison. I also currently have a '96 Cavalier Z-24--about the same as far as being attractive, and the interior of the '96 is much more well-designed, but there are serious power and handling differences. The '96 has some decent get up and go (for an automatic), but the '93 is the hands-down winner as far as tire smokin', haul-a** power. (When done correctly, it will smoke tires through 3 gears). The '96 has shoddier handling and rolls around much more than the '93. As far as parts and maintenance go, the '96 parts seem to be generally cheaper, although there are some components that are just as much of a pain to work on as the '93.

Strength:

-Quick - The car has quite a bit of giddy-up-an-go.
-The new Silver Metalic color is very nice.
-Plenty of room for front passengers.
-Excellent sound system (CD Player is a little weak when driving on the interstate)

Weakness:

-Lack of rear disc brakes (It is a cheap car but its still a sports car!)
-Poor factory inspection (At the time of my first oil change the car was leaking oil and had to have the entire engine replaced since it had a crack head) They set my up in a nice rental and gave me 3 years worth of oil changes for free though!
-Very Noisy above 45 mph.
-Styling was better on the 1999's

I would recommend this car to someone is who is looking for a sport affordable car. I would also recommend you get it checked by a mechanic thoroughly even if it has less that 5 miles on it. Factory speakers that are in the vehicle are extremely good, especially with an upgraded non-factory deck. Car is extremly difficult and expensive to get an alarm installed in because of all of the security features that are built into it already. Some 2000 even have a risk of the airbags going off during the installation of a non factory cd player. The car also has the governor set so you can not exceed 106-107 mph.

Strength:

This is an ecomomy car that gives you bang for your buck. The car is great looking, peppy motor, and very comfortable. Controls are very functional and accessible.

Weakness:

Soft sheet metal. Grabby clutch. Too much body roll. Poor gas mileage for a 4 cylinder. And my number one complain, Rear ABS is horrific. This is one major safety concern. There should be a recall on this. I have never experienced wheel lockup under moderate braking on any other car before. It's down right scary.

I am selling this car, and moving to something with more refinement and better quality. My last car was a 90 Mustang 5.0 and it was a much better built car, handled better, and weaknesses like the ones I noted above are none exsistant. I have read my comparison from Z24 owners who mock the Mustang and brag about how faster there car is, out handles it , etc. GET REAL. Your comparing a econobox to a muscle car. I won't own another 5.0 but as I've owned both I feel I can make a informed comparison on both vehicles.

Strength:

with the optional spoiler and tinted window (its black)
its got some kind of looks. not that expensive (24000 can)full equipped with mags

Weakness:

bought a brand new one in 95 had a scary rattle that the dealer couldn't fix. 6 months later they changed the car for a brand new one '96. no charge. (nice service tho) but the second one had a knockin engine straight from the factory, check engine light comes on and off, handling is so-so and with such a bad ABS they shouldnt have an option of not havin it. also the car is peppy on starts but lacks top speed. and the shifter path is quite fuzzy.

Id say the z-24 is the average american car but it has a peppy engine, pleasent to drive in a straight line but not as refined as its japanese counterparts. More reliable than the impulse but had water pump problems, and a lil oil consumption (which is my falut since im always floorin). I regret the integra for overall performance and reliability but my insurance payments are way down. :) Dont thin ill buy another. ill be lookin for a '00 celica. Looks terrific and reliability should be Toyotarrific too.

But for someone with an average budget, lookin for an average car with low cost maintenance, id recommend it. BE CAREFUL TO CHECK THE V.I.N. if it begins with a 3, its MADE IN MEXICO. Curiously all ppl i know havin trouble with their cavalier got one made in mexico. if it begins by 1 or 4 its made in USA, which i think, means better long-term reliability.

only think about volks electric troubles on the jetta (hecho in mexico)
and ford focus brake problem (1000000 vehicles recalled) made in mexico too

I also want to state that i aint racist, just that since mexico economy is awakening, the buyer is usually the guinea pig. just think about pre-war japan products (read, was cr**, that dramatically improved over time).

Thank you

love the 3.1-v-6. very fast with a few toys, like k&n, exhuast, take off the catilitic conv, turbo muffler, dual exhuast, and youll be spanking 5.0 litre mustangs like I have. love the gas mileage, and it feels good to win against people who think they have the fastest cars in the world with mustangs. looks flashy with 97 z-24 5star rims.

Weakness:

ugly interior except for the dash, not the greatest handling

if your looking for some speed then here you are, just have to do some modifications, I wouldn't really recommend just because of the fact that so many people have them already. to all you with mustangs im known as the 5.0 litre eater so bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The one think I do not like about this care is once the gas gauge gets to about half a tank it goes down to fast.

I paid 2000 dollars Canadian I bought it not cert. All I put on were tires which I purchesed from Canadian Tire that is all it needed.

great gas mileage, much more reliable then I expected, very good ride, great in the snow,

Weakness:

lousy handling, weak moaning engine, clunky 3 speed auto, generally boring

A good little car for anyone looking for a cheap beater. I've been putting 25,000 miles a year on it for a while now and it just keeps going. I was more disappointed with the new Cavaliers. The styling is nice but the motor is still weak and noisy and the handling is still poor. For $1000, it's a great little car but if I were buying new I would get a real car (Civic, Sentra or Protege )

overall I would recommend it to anybody. $3000.00 Isn't a lot of money to pay for a dependable car that lasts. The two door 5 speed is great for a "Younger" driver. The four door auto is a great family car!!
