Strength:

great looking car, every thing is exactly where i like it, digital dash
sun roof, comfortable, has every thing new and high performance under the
hood, not exactly stock. overall the best year a caviler was ever made-and
only when combined with a z- you cant get all this out of a regular cavi

Weakness:

likes to not run right once in a while, need 4-wheel disc brakes
which i will be doing this winter

i would recomend a caviler z-24, regular cavilers suck. good car
parts prices a sort of high but theres always junkyards! always parts in stock for these cars, never shortage.

ford tarus sho=looks better, but performance sucks compared to a sho. jap crap sucks compared to a 1989 z24.

Strength:

I have a 1986 Chevy Cavalier Z24 with a 2.8 litre engine and that car hauls ass!!!!!!! Its fast, nice looking, comes stock with 5 star rims and ground effects, and if its pimped out it is a chick magnet.

Weakness:

Rattles with a system but just about all cars do that so I put Dynamat in it.

This car is tight. If your looking for a fast car but not fast enough to kill yourself in a testdrive, then bye a Cavalier Z24.

Compares to any car except for the real expensive ones.

Strength:

A/C is really strong it can be 200 degrees outside and in 30 seconds its winter in my cavalier. Good heating too when its colder than bejesus outside. Lots of trunkroom. Lots of legroom. Great gas mileage i can drive 40 to 50 miles a day and only have to fill up once a week with the best gas that is though.

Weakness:

heres a list of whats broke so far...cup holder, engine, sealings in the trunk, arm rest, a/c directional thingeys, and the cloth on the roof keeps coming off no mater how many times i glue that thing to the friggin ceiling. Seats are kinda uncomfortable.

i paid 3 G's for mine well 4 and a half G's after i had to put another crappy 4 cylinder in it. And i cant wait till i get done paying for this thing so i can get a real car. But overall it gets the job done and isnt a hoopty so i guess its not the worst car or the best that is. Its not a bad first car but i wouldnt buy another unless it was a newer model and a better model than a RS. Id rather get a Z24 2000 cavalier 5 speed that is if your gonna buy one.

Strength:

There are certain things that are great with this car. One such thing is the great gas mileage. I fill the car up with gas and it lasts me 2 weeks!
Also, the easy to read dashboard helps out alot where I live.

Weakness:

You MUST get a 5-speed transmission for this car. I have an automatic, and it is EXTREMELY slow for shifting. Plus, the radio speakers are weak. Plus, the acceleration is bad. However, what do you expect from a economy car.

Overall, since I am 17 and this is my first "car", I cannot really complain. Despite the faults that I find with it, there is a plus that I can find with it. If you are looking for a economy car for your first car, then buy it. If not, buy something else.

Model Reviewed: Cavalier Z24

Strength:

The reliability of my Z24 has been very impressive so far. Aside from a busted water pump 6 months after I got the car (the repair was covered under warranty), I've only had to perform routine maintenance, such as brakes, oil, filters & a set of new tires. The mileage has been fairly decent. Perhaps my favorite single thing about the Z24 is the vast amount of torque available from the 2.4 Twin Cam. I find the seats quite supportive in the right areas, and the stock cd player is better than most econo-car systems i've experienced.

Weakness:

The plastic trim gives a shoddy look to the interior. 4-wheel disc brakes are not even offered on the Cavalier. The fuel filler door doesn't have a lock, which is bad for us paranoid folks, as is the fold-down back seat, which just falls open with the tug of a cloth loop. Not great for security.

For the used price of $13,000, I'd say that my li'l Z24 is quite a respectable purchase. Despite the lack of certain options that I'd really like to see on the Z24 which are currently unavailable, but, on the whole, I would quickly recommend this car to a friend. The 4-speed auto that comes with the Z24 is smooth shifting, though it does take a while to upshift under hard acceleration. I think it looks really good in profile; it looks sleek. The Z24 comes stock with 16" wheels, power everything, and offers remote entry, a sunroof and an automatic as the options. I've been hunting for a newer one with a 5-speed, but they're near impossible to find used around here.
As for the things I want on this car that aren't offered from the factory, most are easy to find in the aftermarket.
This sporty car can be a possible alternative to the Ford Focus ZX3 or Escort ZX2, the Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS, and, if you stretch a bit, the Honda Civic EX or Si. It can be good for a low-buck, performance car with some mild modifications, or, in the LS sedan version with the 2.4 engine, as a family car for those just getting started. Just remember to research to make sure it's what you want before you buy one.

Similar Products Used:

99 Civic Si - were it not for the very low level of torque in the stock VTEC engine, i would own one of these. Perhaps with a nice GReddy turbo kit, it would be perfect. However, i can't afford that right now.
2000 Neon R/T - same rated horsepower, slightly lower torque rating and only available in a 4-door (at least for the time being). It comes with leather seats, is not available with an auto transmission (which is a good thing for me), and has a slightly different front fascia, which is something the 2000-1 Z24 no longer has...it just adds driving lights, now.

Strength:

Rides nice, has a very roomy trunk, comfortable riding, sticks to the road, great gas mileage, I could go on and on.

Weakness:

The only weaknesses about these cars are certain people who drive them and beat on them, then they get problems, and put the car down. Maybe if people knew how to treat a vehicle, they wouldn't complain at all.

I paid $5995 for my car. Got a great deal on it. I'd recommend a Cavy to anyone who were to ask me what kind of car is a good family car, but is also sporty. And the Chevy Cavalier LS Sedan would definately be it. There is no doubt in my mind. The 97 Cavy is an excellent ride. They pimp out really nice too.

Strength:

Looks okay, good gas, comfortable. Affordable price

Weakness:

I've only owned it 1 year and I have already replaced the rotters, and tires and H2O sensor. Now the stering knuckel is loose and after having it tightened twice they say it cannot be fixed perminantly. (At least they did not charge me for the last fix) They used stick tight or hold tight and said that was all they could do. I guess I will take it back in a month and have them repair it again. (for free)

I think these cars are built cheap but they are not a $30,000 auto in the first place. I would recommend it for a single, first time buyer. I drove 200 miles a day for 2 years and only had one problem (H2O sensor)but I was able to drive it to the shop. I won't buy another small car. But only because I want a truck. That way I can be the tailgater not the tailgatee.
