LUMINA 4DR SEDAN 3.1
Strength:
THE 3.1L V-6 HAS ENORMOUS POWER,IT CAN OUTRUN AND OUT PERFORM ANY 4-CYLINDER AND MOST 6-CYLINDER CARS.WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION NO SYRAIGHT DRIVE CAN TOUCH IT AS WELL AS ANY OTHER AUTOMATICS. I HAVE WON EVERYRACE I'VE RAN.WITH SOME MINOR UPGRADES SUCH AS A K&N AIR FILTER AND A DUAL GLASS PACK EXAUST SYSTEM WHICH GIVES IT AROUND 220HP IT IS AN UNTOUCHABLE V-6. THE A/C IS SO COLD YOU CAN SEE YOUR BREATH THE HEAT WORKS JUST AS WELL. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER ROOM THE LUMINA PROVIDES IS GREAT. HAS GREAT GAS MILAGE. A GIANT TRUNK.ALWAYS CRANKS. HAS A GOOD STEREO SYSTEM. NOTHING CAN HARM THE BODY, ITS LIKE A TANK THAT WEIGHS ONLY A TON OR TWO. LOOKS SPORTY AND NICE. EXCELLENT TO DRIVE AROUND TOWN AND GREAT TO TAKE ON TRIPS, LONG AND SHORT.
Weakness:
THE ONLY WEAKNESSES I HAVE EXPERIENCED IS THAT THE BREAKS SUCK. I COULD STOP BETTER WITH MY FEET. IT EATS FRONT PADS AND PRESERVES THE REAR ONES. NO BUILT IN CUP HOLDERS MAKES HOLDIN A DRINK IRRITATING. POWER WINDOWS ARE NOT ALL THAT GOOD, YOU HAVE TO ROLL ONE WINDOW UP AT A TIME OR ELSE IT WILL TAKE YOU FOREVER TO ROLL THEM UP AT THE SAME TIME. I WOULD HAVE TO GIVE THE 92' LUMINA A 4 STAR RATING. WITH MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE CAR, IT HAS PROVEN TO ME THAT IT WONT DIE. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A TUNE UP AT 123,000 MILES, NEW GASKETS,A REBUILT ALTERNATOR, AND A BRAKE JOB THAT COST A PRETTY PENNY, I HAVE HAD NO SERIOUS PROBLEMS. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT 2AND A HALF YEARS NOW BOUGHT IT WITH 80,000 MILES NOW HAS 123,000 AND COUNTING. IT SEEMS NO MATTER HOW HARD AND ROUGH I DRIVE THIS CAR IT WILL NOT STOP. THIS WAS MY FIRST CAR AND I ABSOLOUTLY LOVE. I WONT GET RID OF IT UNTIL I BLOW THE ENGINE AND THAT COULD BE A VERY LONG TIME.THIS IS THE BEST CAR YOU CAN GET FOR A NEW TEENAGE DRIVER WHO WANTS POWER AND DEPENDABILITY. Similar Products Used: COMPARED TO ANY JAPANESE 4CYLINDER AND BAD ATTEMPS AT V-6'S,AS WELL A CAVALIER,SABLE,TAURAS,NEON,ESCORT, AND A NEW VW BEETLE THE 92' CHEVY LUMINA IS UNDOUBTABLY THE NUMBER 1 PICK. THESE OTHER CARS DO NOT COMPARE WITH IT AT THE LEAST. I WOULD DEFINITLY RECOMMEND THIS CAR FOR ANY ONE WHO CAN DRIVE. IT IS THE BEST ALL AROUND CAR YOU CAN GET. |

Good acceleration, good handling, good fuel milage.
Weakness:
No cup holders, and repairs are expensive. I have had to replace a gas tank, fuel pump, and fuel filter, and it costed me, and i did all the labour. This is a wicked car!!!!!! I got it two weeks ago, and i'm impressed. I used to be an import kind of guy until i got this! This is my first car, and so far i love it. I wish I had got the standard!!! Similar Products Used: Kills any domestic in its class, but the acura CL type S is still the king. (sorry) it has 60 more hsp, and 40 more pounds of torque. |

Lumina 3.1
Strength:
Fairly good car for being as old as dirt. It's been through alot (165,000 miles on it). It handles decent and for it's time and it has really good acceleration. Also it gets fair (27 mi to the gal.) gas milage. Easy to change the alternator and do basic work on the engine... you don't even have to take it out of the car. Changing the head lights is really easy also. The paint held up pretty well. It doesn't burn any oil after 11 years.
Weakness:
Transmissions in the lumia series are horrible. It's so easy to drop one. I have to replace mine now, along with the power steering pump. The interior doesn't take much to ruin it. The A/C works but it smells bad. Chevy had a recall for the 1990 Lumina engine. My engine leaks oil really bad. Turn signals have trouble working. It shuts off sometimes immediatly after start-up... bad computer. If you want to get a 1990 3.1L Lumina, for what ever reason, get one that has at most 115,000 miles on it. Be prepared to replace the transmission, make sure you didn't buy it from a smoker, check to see if the trunk leaks (a common problem... but I haven't experienced it), make sure the turn signals work, and drive it (make sure it drives smooth, but it will be fairly loud). Be prepared to replace the transmission (or just replace it to save you from pain). Finally make sure it's been taken in to be fixed for the recall. The overall rating is a 4 because if I had the chance to buy it with all the requirements above met, I would for at most 5,000. This is a good college kid car (again if fixed up). Overall it's a fairly good car. Similar Products Used: I have driven the 1996 Lumina. It handles great and runs very reliable. However, it may just be me but I think my 1990 Lumina has more raw power. The two Luminas, when compared, seen totally different. The 1996 Lumina drives more like 1995 Pontiac Bonneville. |

Lumina Eurosport Coupe
Strength:
The engine and transmission are the greatest part of this car. You can totally beat the hell out of it without it breaking. The 3.1L V6 provides great low-end torque for getting off the line, but lacks the high RPM horsepower of the 3.4L DOHC. But overall, the acceleration is pretty good. The automatic transmission isn't the smoothest when racing hard, but it gets the job done. The 115 MPH speedo can be buried on a long country road!
Weakness:
My 91 Euro Coupe has developed a few squeaks and rattles at most. They can be quite annoying at times. I put in new rear struts last month and they still squeak. The brakes also suck. REMEMBER ALWAYS USE YOUR PARKING BREAK WHEN PARKING TO PREVENT THE REAR CALIPERS FROM SEIZING! If you don't do this you will be sorry Overall, my 91 Lumina Eurosport Coupe is a very dependable car. It has never left me walking home. The engine and drivetrain are absolutely superb....the transmission can take a beating and it still shifts like new. The 3.1L V6 is ultra-reliable and provides good power. 140 horsepower may not seem like much on paper, but it sure can get that big vault of a Lumina moving! I'll be the next in line for a mid 90's Lumina next. But then again my Lumina now may never die! Similar Products Used: It is better in every way compared to my old 93 Plymouth Sundance. It's faster and stronger and tougher and bigger. Nuff' said! The Lumina could pull that Sundance around the block! |

The car is definitely fast, good suspension, great looks
Weakness:
Repairs are expensive as long as you don't drive it like a race car. Treat it like your baby and you won't have any problems. I have 75k miles and i changed the battery once, serpetine belt, and that is all. I think that overall the car is very good. AS LONG AS YOU ARE A RESPONSIBLE CAR OWNER...change the oil every 3000 miles. Common sense is the key to preventive maintenance! Similar Products Used: I had a 91 Baretta GT, except for the cupholders, no comparison. |

Strength:
It has very good acceleration. I smoked the hell out of alot of cars, probably because my engine is the 3.4liter. The dual twin cams make it so much faster. The cd player is excellent, and is very nice to drive on the highway.
Weakness:
Brakes!!!! Need I say more. They squeak, even though I just had them replaced 3 months ago. I suggest a really good brake pad if you want them to last. Also, keep the oil changed on this car, the engine will become very rough sounding if not changed every 3000 miles. I haven't had any real trouble with it yet. I drive it alot to. In a month i put on at least 2000 miles on it. I think I will get alot of use out of this car. It is comfortable and rides like a dream. Similar Products Used: Ford Taurus sucked!!!!!!! I had on of those before I purchased this car. Chevy makes a good car. Stay away from those Fords. |

Rare after-market products, brakes make noise, even after you replace them. If seat railings break, look out, very expensive!!! could use a bit more horsepower. Great ride. I would recommend this car to all. Similar Products Used: Ford Taurus, Honda. No comparison. The Lumina kicks their butt big time!! Lumina is much bigger and stronger. |
