Strength:
Great acceleration and nice handling
Weakness:
brakes aren't good at all and it seems to just eat up gas... I have only had my Malibu for a short period of time and it seems to be a very good car. I could probably live with the gas thing but I am not up for replacing brakes and stuff all the time... Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
great passing power, great sound system
Weakness:
quite a few...but brakes and rotors are definately top of the list. The last vehicle i owned was a 1994 Toyota 4X4 (bought it in 1996)...was NEVER in the shop, never needed a single repair. The only thing I paid for was a bi-monthly oil, lube and filter. The same holds true for the 1994 Volkswagen Golf I had owned previously, as well as the 1990 Toyota 4X4. In 1999, i thought I'd finally give an American-made car a try...Big Mistake! Bought a Chevy Malibu LS...had to have the rotors replaced before 16,000 miles...with the "new" ones recently put out. Had to have them turned sometime around 18-20,000 miles, and again around 32,000 miles. Similar Products Used: None |

EVERYTHING ELSE!!!! Brakes, Brakes and Brakes.. Had to fight with the dealer to get them to turn the rotors and replace the pads at 11,000 miles.. Had to fight even harder to get them to replace the rotors at 17,000 miles. I have replaced the pads 8 times in 86,000 miles, the brake lights keep burning out fuses and bulbs, Replaced the fuel pump after FIVE trips to the dealer to find out why it was stalling when applying the gas. After the fifth trip, they gave me a sensor recorder that told them what the problem was in minutes.. WHY didn't they do that in the first place???? This car has been problems from the start AND has HORRIBLE resale value.. I AM STUCK with it..... I would NOT reccommend this car to an enemy!!! Similar Products Used: Honda, Toyota.. It doesn't EVEN come close to the value of foreign... |

Malibu
Strength:
The vehicle is roomy and has a nice ride to it, other than that, there is none.
Weakness:
Brakes, rotors kept warping, ac/heater control head went out twice in 6 months, brake lights keep burning out, had to replace some board back there twice in 6 months at about 300 a pop. This car is lousy I don't recommend you buy it, chevy keeps saying there is nothing wrong with the car eating rotors and having to replace the control heads and that panel back there. Yesterday I gave up on it and traded the car in for a Mustang GT, will never again own a Cheverolet, I refuse to make car payments and have to pay for repairs on top of it. Malibu (Base)
Strength:
Comfortable ride, good value, good acceleration, no maintenance other than tire rotation and oil/filter changes, good handling.
Weakness:
The Firestone Affinity tires will not last the 70,000 mile estimated life. Our two year/20,000 mile experience with the Malibu has been nearly flawless. We have used the Malibu to take several trips to visit family in Pittsburgh, Pa. and Oneida, New York. On each trip, fuel mileage has averaged better than 30 mpg. The ride is comfortable and the noise level is quiet, except during full throttle accelerations. The 3.1 L engine has suficient strength to merge into turnpike traffic. We would readily purchase another Malibu based upon our experience with the 2000 Malibu. Similar Products Used: Much better than the Plymouth Breeze/Dodge Stratus. Equal to the Ford Taurus. Better value than the Toyota Camry. |

Chevy Malibu
Strength:
Nice Gold edition packaging, strong engine, great handling
Weakness:
Car was less than 3 years old, we had it for 1.5 years of that when traded back out, had backend suspension replaced, road noise in winshield, bubbling paint, Chevy service, bad head gasket, bad road noise This car was a mistake to buy, Chevrolet service is the worst I have ever dealt with from any company. The paint started bubbiling up from underneath and Chevy says we will have to take a sample and analyize it. Ok well they do this and say it is from rock chips??? Go figure. take it to another chevy dealer they look at it and say yes bad paint... After 18 months of ownership and repeated trips to the dealer for repairs including the $1800 rearend suspension (warranty thank God!) we had enough when the head gasket blew. So off to that Chevy dealer who was so nice to not provide good warranty repair work or blame the problems of the car on us, and off loaded it on them. Traded for a 99 Century, and even though this car has the same engine in it, it is loads better in quality, Buick service is top notch, and as you are driving into your Buick dealer you will notice the repair facilities are almost always empty. We had to have a service call performed on the transmision of the Buick and they had to call the mechanic in to do the work because they only have him work 3 days a week. They had him come in on his day off to do the work. Plus our's will give you a vehicle to use while yours in the shop. Chevy just looked us in the face and said weel I guess you will just have to wait for your car. Similar Products Used: 1999 Buick Century much better vehicle, roomier, better feel, less noise |

Weakness:
Chevy service is the worst. Vents broke after a month, took them 1 month just to get the right part to fix it. Had brake pads replace twice, and new rotors(warped) in the first 4 months. Radio is bad, blew 3 speakers. Power windows grind, have to be lubed every 2 months. Bearings had to be replaced on the front end. Shocks and struts squeak. All this and only 15k miles. Malibu
Strength:
Overall good value EXCEPT for the notorious rotor problem. Handles well, good room, nice trunk. Good stereo system as standard equipment. Even the cup holders and glovebox arew good.
Weakness:
Original tires very poor. Rotor problem has obviously not been fixed, regardless of what GM says I love almost everything about the car, but unfortunately I cannot recommend it for anyone else to buy. The brake rotor problem is a very serious one and it has not been remedied. The rotors were turned at about 5000 miles, then replaced at 9000, again at 15000, again at 22000, again at 32000, again at 34000. The car is at the dealer as I type this, with the same warped rotor problem (car has about 52000 on it now). Up to now the rotors were always replaced at no charge but this time they are turning them, and the last set were the "new" ones with the problem supposedly fixed. These lasted longer but I still had pulsating after a few thousand miles and just didn't have a chance to take it in sooner. I am sure that within a couple months it will be in again for new rotors, but I will probably have to start paying for them. 6 sets of rotors in 50000 miles over 2 years... If I have this so look forward to at $400 a crack it looks like $2000 over the next couple years just for rotors. My last 4 cars over the last 14 years have been Chevys...looks like its Honda or Toyota next time. Similar Products Used: None |
