It will start. Has a lot of room. Big trunk!
Weakness:
Noisy, The front end feels like it's falling off! I had the car for two days and it was in the shop for a new brake job. In the past 18 months it has had four more brake jobs and at this moment it needs another one. The front end of the car feels like it is going to fall off. When driving at 60 or over the tires feel like they're going to roll off the car. My car now will not go into park with out pushing and pulling for 45 seconds to get it into park so I can shut the car off. This car is worse the my 9 year old Honda Civic I had before I bought this thing. The other reviews pretty much sum everything up that will happen if you buy this car. DO NOT BUY THIS, SPEND THE MONEY BUY SOMETHING ELSE!!!! Similar Products Used: None |

Weakness:
Engine noise when cold I bought the 2000 Chevy Malibu because I like the looks, price, V6 engine and size of the car. When I test drove the car it was quiet comfortable and handled reasonably well. The V6 engine, which is now standard, has very good power and it also gets good gas mileage. I get 27-29 mpg on the freeway and 20-22 in town. The stereo is a good one and I like the combination CD and cassette player( I got the LS model). Overall I like most everything about the car and I would be a very satisfied customer with this car, but, there is a problem with the engine and I consider this a serious problem. When cold the engine has a very loud knocking noise the goes away after several minutes when the engines warms up. I took it to the local dealer and they told me this was an acceptable amount of noise and all the Malibu's make it. They said it wouldn't hurt anything. Well, it hurts my customer satisfaction level. I now have to live with a car that makes horrible engines noises every morning I start it up and the noise continues until the engine warms up. I bought this car new and it only has 3,000 miles on it now and it sounds like an engine with 300,000 miles on it. By the way the noise is piston slap which is a quality control problem. This is really unacceptable and I would not recommend this car to anyone until GM responds better to the engine problem. Similar Products Used: 1998 Ford Contour |

Strength:
Sound system, car is very roomy, good acceleration, great trunk space.
Weakness:
I hear all of these bad things about the Malibu. I did replace the brak pads at 20000 miles and when I first got the car the tailight had water in it. Other than that I have been satisfied with the car...knock on wood :) I would recommend the Malibu for the price and the stability of the car. Most of the reviews were from the early versions of the Malibu. Similar Products Used: None |

The Dark Green Paint is of questionable quality, The front Headlights , specially the left one lets water in!!! It is a nice Car for the price, not the best buy , but still nice. I think it is a little too "complex" in its body componentes, for Example the frony and rear head lights are made in England , but otherwise, at least for me , it has been reliable (could it be that it was assembled in Oklahoma?) This is the worst car a anyone could buy. This has been nothing but a hassle since day one. I have had the car for 41000 miles, I am the first owner. I replaced the tie rods on both sides twice before 7000 miles, the rotors and brakes were replaced at 7500 miles, the tires (Origional Firestones were CRAP) replaced at 28000 miles, brakes at 30,000 miles, Battery died and was replaced at 32,000 miles, keyless entry fixed at 33,000 miles radio reaired at 35,000 miles which is still broken now was fixed for about 1000 miles till warrenty ran out. This is the short list that I can remember theres more now at 41,000 miles rotors need replacement, and I have coolant leak at intake manifold (Which they estimate is gonna cost $600 to fix). I bought this car because it was the Motor Trend car of the year. I thought I had done my homework. I can not reccomend this car to anyone. Even Hyundai has a better warrenty. Stay Away, Avoid this car like a sexually transmitted virus. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Size is great, trunk space. mileage decent, cup holder for driver side.
Weakness:
Not that powerful for a V6, stereo is crap, drivers chair is loose and has little support My chair seems loose, rocks when I wiggle my legs, the stereo sucks, fm reception bad, am nonexistent. Cassette replaced once, horn is unreliable, tires were quickly. After a break in, I had to have the coils replaced on my airbags. I just took it in to get brakes serviced at 36K and find I have to have my calipers rebuilt and springs replaced, cost me $350, should have been $100. The tires seem to be wearing too fast. I don't drive like a madman, many highway miles. Anyway, I was once happy with this car. I am beginning to think it is not such a good buy. If you have a great friend who is a GM expert mechanic and likes doing pro-bono work, this is the car for you. Similar Products Used: 1990 Cavalier, 1978 Malibu Wagon |

Strength:
Rides comfortably; decent-looking 4-door car. Good pick-up from the V6, when it's running well. Okay gas mileage, good on the highway. For what I paid it was a good deal at the time, but has quickly depreciated. Purchased with 46000 miles on it in May '99, now have about 75000 miles on it.
Weakness:
Alternator failed at just under 70,000 miles. The fan kicks off when running at "5" after about 15 minutes or so, on both heat and A/C. FM reception stinks, and the AM is non-existent. Recently, the oil has begun to separate, which I'm told may be due to air leaking into the engine (haven't had that checked out yet). Creates a very bad ticking sound until car is fully warmed up. As hard as I am on my cars, this held up fairly well for the first year I had it. As soon as I can break even on the loan, I will be replacing this vehicle. It's comfortable for me, and the options are nice, but something more reliable is necessary. Like I said above, I bought it for below book at the time, but since then have gone upside-down in the loan. (The rip-off extended warranty isn't helping much, especially since it's been driven out of warranty.) Maybe an okay car for a student, around-town driving, if you don't mind paying repair costs once in a while. I haven't had as many problems as some of these other folks....yet. Similar Products Used: More comfortable than the two 4x4 pickups I've had. Had problems with a '95 Chevy Cavalier as well. (When will I learn to NEVER buy the first model year of something?) |
