i love this car, everything about this car is great. Where ever i go people stare at my baby. the speed, style, attitude, and performance of this car is everything you would expect out of this Chevy. i couldn't expect anymore, Chevy did a really good job. they took a guess and thought that people would like the new look of the Monte and they were right. i love it. i hope they will continue this model for a long time.
Weakness:
the only weakness with this car is that, its not titled as a "sports car" Through out the years i have tried a variety of cars, my favorite is the monte's. my old monte was my pride and joy, but now i have a new one. and i love it. i Would stongly sugest getting a Monte Carlo to anybody who wants a stong, sporty, reliable car. that takes you to your destination with style and comfort. I LOVE MY CAR!!!! Similar Products Used: i have driven sevral diffrent types of cars, my first car was a Plymoth reliant, that was awful, next i bought a 97 mustang GT that was ok it wasnt very comfortable, and lacked the potiental that i wanted. next i bought a 98 lumnia and it was nice and roomy even though i only had it for 6 months, it saved me alot of money, the next car i had was a 95 monte carlo Z34, as soon as i bought it i was hooked i loved the style of that car everything was perfect, and you can fix it up better than any other car, then finally i bought the brand new 2001 Monte Carlo SS Special Edition |

Strength:
FOR A SMALL V-6, THIS ENGINE HAS A LOT OF GET-UP-AND-GO. THE RIDE IS COMFORTABLE AND I GET FAIRLY GOOD GAS MILEAGE.AND I REALLY LOVE THE SPORTY SHAPE OF THE WHOLE CAR
Weakness:
THE CD PLAYER IS TERRIBLE ABOUT SKIPPING AND THE MUSIC QUALITY ISN'T AS GOOD AS THAT OF MY AUNTS CHRYSLER SEBRING. ALSO IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND CUSTOM PARTS FOR ONE. I HAVE OVER 115,000 MILES ON MY CAR AND THE BIGGEST PROBLEM I HAVE HAD IS THE DRIVE BELT RUBS A HOLE IN THE LOWER RADIATOR HOSE. I ALSO HAD TO CHANGE THE BELT TENSIONER AFTER 112,000 MILES BUT THAT IS IT BESIDES CHANGING THE OIL AND SPARK PLUGS AND FILLING HER UP WITH GAS EVERY 320 MILES. Similar Products Used: I HAVE DRIVEN A 1992 CHEVY Z-71 SILVERADO AND A 1991 PONTIAC GRAND AM. OVERALL THE ONLY ANDVANTAGE TO THE OTHER VEHICLES IS THE FACT THAT THE TRUCK HAD MORE POWER AND A HIGHER VIEW POINT |

Strength:
Absolutely incredible suspension/road handling for such a big car.
Weakness:
What the hell about SS means V-6? - It's a very fast V-6, but I can't wait for the new ones with a V-8. I work on cars 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, and I'll never buy anything but a classy, strong, elegant luxury/sport coupe from General Motors. We've owned several, both Chevy and Cadillac. I've done basic maintenance on my Monte only, and it runs today like it did 20,000 mostly city miles ago. The car won't disappoint in acceleration, comfort, looks, or anything else. I will probably always own a Monte Carlo. And for anybody who complains about them: "GO BUY SOMETHING ELSE. THE MONTE CLEARLY DISLIKES YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE POND SCUM." Bottom line, don't let the minority of bad reviews talk you out of buying this car. Go drive it for yourself. If you like the feel, and I bet you will, rest assured that with basic care (OIL & FILTER CHANGES, RESPONSIBLE DRIVING) it will give you many, many years of dependable service. Similar Products Used: Closest things are my dad's '90 Cadillac Sedan de Ville and his old '94 Chrylser LeBaron convertible. My car rides like the Caddy, with better pickup, and the leather interior is every bit as comfortable. As for the LeBaron, well, let's just say my interior (whole car for that matter) isn't falling apart, I get better gas mileage, and I still get more looks from the chicks. |

The power will blow your mind! If not careful, the car will go over the speed limit very easily. I get to work where all the "cool" guys with their Ford Mustang peices of crap are and let them see why Chevrolet cars rock! I am 17 and this is my second car, I bought it for college so I have reliable means of transportation. The style is great, especially for the custom white/purple paint job it has.
Weakness:
It rides rather low to the ground, I have noticed that the plastic gaurd on the front scrapes the ground alot. I have seen a mysterious antifreeze leak, but nothing bad is happening. For a totalled car that has been rebuilt, it is in excellent shape! I recommend this car for any teen who wants to show people what a little money an get ya. Power and nice looks, all built into one! My dad even likes it and he is 40, and my mom is 44 and she fights with me on who gets to drive it. It is an obsession on wheels! Similar Products Used: My old car, which I still proudly own, is a 1985 Chrysler LeBaron Convertable. It is sadly beaten in every aspect by the monte, except on the nice summer days when a convertable best suits ya! The only thing i noticed they tie on is the milage per gallon. I thought that was wierd. But really, there is no comparison for it. |

It has awesome pickup, I love the power of the engine!!! It's good for showing off, and fishtailing and such because it's rear wheel drive. Even though the car is ugly now with rust, my friends are trying to buy it from me when I get a new car. Because the car is older and carbuerated, it is soo much cheaper to fix as well as easier. I would recommend this car as a first car. I went over 10,000 miles without an oil change, I kept forgetting, and my car was still happily running. It's die hard and if I were to get into an accident, the car would only get scraped because the body and frame are so strong.
Weakness:
This car would be awesome, except for the rust, I've heard Monte Carlo's are infamous for rust, but I believe it's more from neglect than anything else. People always complain about their car being a POS, but that's 99% of the time due to their ignorance, and irregular maintenance on the car. I hate the bench seat, I prefer bucket. The cigarette lighter blows the circuit and if I have my CD adapter thing in the lighter thingy, and it gets bumped, that'll blow the circuit too. The trunk release also doesn't work, but I have to expect that from a 15 year old car. I got this car as my first car, for $800, it wasn't a bad deal. I was dying for a Camaro (I come from a Chevy/GM family), but I wanted a car as soon as I could get one. It had 132,000 miles on the original engine, and now I'm still going stong on the original high performance 305 v8 it came with, I'm now at over 152,000. I got what I paid for, but for a first car, I am pleased with it. It hauls on long road trips, the interior is extremely comfortable and roomy. One could sleep in the car if they wanted. I have plenty of room for everything and then some. For a 15 year old car, I don't really think I've ever seen better. My friends and I beat the car, and it still runs happy with no problems. I still have yet to figure out how to break it. My mom always tries to steal it from me. Similar Products Used: Well, I drove my friend's 94 Tempo GL. That car is way too tiny, my car has had BY FAR FEWER problems than that car. Now though, I plan on moving on to a Pontiac Bonneville, another quality product by GM. They're comparable, I think the newer Bonnie's have more style though and I want something less rusty. |

Strength:
The handling, the power, the looks, the comfort of the car. A sports car with the title of a luxury car. Great for young people looking for a fast car but not looking to spend the insurance.
Weakness:
Not a whole lot of performance parts for it. I went in looking for a sports car, something to get some HP into. Instead i found out there is nothing. Gas milage hurts, but when you don't drive that much who cares. Car looks great, very fast engine for the size of the car. The car handles like a dream. The 4 wheel disk breaks makes stopping smooth. I've never had any problems with the car yet. The interior of the car just fits arround you. It gives you that sporty feel of ridding low to the ground with actually not being that low. Even for a 2 door, it is extreamly roomy, still no family car, but good enough to have friend in, whithought them complaining about how they got no room. They come near fully loaded. Still, I prefer my 97 to a brand new one, yea the engine is smaller...but a 3.4 with 215hp to a 3.8 with 200hp....you tell me whats better. Similar Products Used: 89 Oldsmobile. Since it was my first car, i have nothing to compare to. It just blows it away in all aspects, even gas mileage |

The ride and stereo
Weakness:
Cost to fix everything is a joke. The labor will cost a fortune because you have to take it all apart to even replace the battery. Very expensive to maintain. I bought this car with 40,000 miles on it. It now has 70,000. In the last year I have replaced the battery, rotors, calipers, brakes, altinator, fuel pump, fuel filter, tires(common),rear defroster, starter. I owned a Camaro before this and it was just as bad. Please take my advice and never buy a Chevy in your life. The Monte Carlo rides good and the stereo is great but that's about it. The car has just plain sucked. Similar Products Used: 93 camaro |

Strength:
Better than walking
Weakness:
Quality sucks, service is even worse. This car has been very disappointing. At 18K the brake sensor went out, and the muffler clips had to be replaced. At 20K the side molding clips had to be changed because the car was falling apart. There is a continuous rattle/shake in the back that no mechanic can hear (of course). At 31K I had to have the front struts replaced, and now at 37K I have to get the back struts replaced. I've talked to four mechanics who say that I do need back struts but there is no way that they should be out at 37K, so I'm convinced that the quality of this car sucks. I'm tired of spending money on this car, I don't even want to put gas in it anymore. I will never own a GM product again. Great looks, handling and performance with very few problems.
Weakness:
3.4L Engine not easy to work on. I purchased this vehicle used, in very good condition. It has the Z34 package. Options include leather, power windows, power locks, power seat. The only peice of interior that's given me a problem was the ash tray lid. It won't stay closed all the way. It drives and handles well , with a roomy back seat. The 3.4liter DOHC engine is very difficult to work on. It took calling 3 or 4 mechanics before I could find one that would change the timing belt. The alternator also requires disconnecting the tie rod and the exhaust and loostening your motor and lifting it several inches. The back spark plugs also require tilting the engine forward to get to them. These repairs will cost you more because they take more time than normal. Even though the engine is hard to work on, it has been a very good performer. It accelerates like a V-8. It has a lot of power and the gas mileage is decent. |
