Strength:
The lanos has its looks going for it. I was pleased with amount of trunk space there is. I couldn''t beleive the leg room their is in the back set of the car it is very spacious for a two door.
Weakness:
I have had some problems with my breaks making noice. I''ve had my lanos for six months now and I have been over all very pleased with my car. It sporty but the cost is''nt expensive and in PA thier aren''t to many running around which is neat. It''s weird to see the reaction you get from people when they see you because not to many people no much about Daewoo''s. Everyone tells me it fits my personality which I think is true. Well I think this car is more for the younger people because it looks sporty and is afordable and that what we like. Similar Products Used: I''ve never had a two door hatch back to compare to. |

Strength:
price, styling, design, build, performance - 1600 twin cam with variable intake come to life after all other cars poop out - passes in traffic then keep right on going - WOW!
Weakness:
Seats need lumbar help - not up to VW Passat standards (okay, the VW Passat is a $20K car)! GREAT car - excellent in almost every way. nicely and cleanly assembles, quick, surefooted, spacious, small to park, tall enough on the highway to feel safe and see well. Cute, very cute car! go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/daewoolanos to discuss further Similar Products Used: Honda, Nissan, Suziki, Subaru, Neon, Escort/Focus |

Strength:
For the car’s size, it has a massive trunk. The split fold-down rear seat makes it even better. The driver’s seat has pitch adjustment, an item not usually found in low-end cars. At six feet tall, I’m very happy with the front and rear headroom and legroom. The styling of the car is very nice for an economy car. Road noise it present, but not as much as in my $17K ’93 Aerostar. After several trips of more than 500 miles, I must say that that long trips in the car are not unpleasant.
Weakness:
The car has been recalled once; a wiring harness under the front carpet needed to be moved away from foot traffic. The dealership repaired the problem in one day. The carpet was not put back in place very carefully and has come out of place on a regular basis. The car gets door dings easily and paint chips easily from road gravel hitting the hood. The brakes needed new front pads after 15K. Since purchasing the car, it has pulled heavily to the left, increasing with higher speeds. The dealer attributed it to uneven tire pressure and put air in the tires. My wife reported some improvement, but not much. The dealer refused to realign the wheels at their expense. At 5K we had the wheels realigned at our expense, but did not experience any improvement. Several mechanics (not Daewoo mechanics) told us that it was torque over-steer and that some cars are worse than others. The car was brought into the dealer two more times to look at the problem; both times the dealer blamed it on bent wheels. Although the problem had existed since purchasing the car, they played the “we’ll have to speak to the manufacturer game” while never having an “answer” for u My wife and I were looking for an inexpensive car to replace an aging mini van. I researched many different cars and decided on the Lanos because of recommendations and price. We were very happy to find a four-door automatic sedan with a/c, AM/FM cassette and many extras for $10,500 (after negotiations). Initially we were very happy, but after experiencing several problems, we are left skeptical. I have to say that our negative feelings stem more from how the dealer has dealt with us rather than the car itself, even though the car has had its problems. Overall impression: the car offers a lot for the money, but at the same time, you get what you pay for. Thin sheet metal and faulty wiring harnesses. Difficult dealer. If you have less than $11K to spend and need a comfortable new family sedan, you have few choices. The Lanos can be an option, but choose your dealer wisely. You may have to visit him on occasion. dignostic system, motor, tempeture gagde I have a 1999 Daewoo Lanos that I am now putting a brand new motor in after 68,000 miles. It is costing my husband and I over two thousand dollars because our extended 60,000 warranty is up and we could not get another extended warranty for the fact the car needs major work. I took it to the dealership to get it fixed but they wanted two thousand just to do a valve job, so we took it to a freind of the family, which has a shop working on high performance vechiles and he told us that our temperture gadge had not been working properly plus the computer in the car that tells you that something is wrong was also not working properly. So now I am stuck buying a new motor for a vechile that is not even paid off. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Price for Options/Features. Easy of Controls. Powerful Stereo (outperformed a stock Maxima one day). Good looking car. Central window control (like the BMW and Mercedes lines).
Weakness:
Loud and Noisy brakes, Gas Mileage, Paint Consitancy, Quality of lock components, No Tachometer, ABS not standard on our model and year, No Cruise available on our model and year. Not a bad little car, also own a Nissan Altima, and although price wise there is no comparison, there are a lot alike when it comes to most of the quality of ride. The car was purchased brand new as a last years model. Its fully loaded, and for the price you couldn''t beat it. The car does have some constant problems the dealership nor the company is very helpful in fixing. First would be the paint, it sucks. The car is barely old and it already showing surface rust, which can only happen if there is metal that is not covered well enough by paint. The dealership basically said, it''s a northern climate, it''s bound to happen. I would agree, accept my 1994 Altima just started showing any rust at all this past year. The next thing is the constant squeaky brakes. The dealership says they are fine, but I find that hard to believe when ALL THEY DO IS SQUEEK! The next think would be the trunk lock stopped working or as the dealership said, seezed. They said it was from lack of use and will happen in a year or so in any car if you don''t use it...hm...beg to differ, my Altima again is 1994 and I rarely (as in less then once every 6 months) use the key for the trunk or the doors, and they seem to work fine when I do use them...I''m more apt to think second or even third rate parts are more of the problem. Next thing would be this constant stalling at cold temperatures. The car could be fully warmed up, you go to start driving and it will just stall. It has been in the SHOP MANY times to fix it, however it still persists. The dealership says they cannot find any problems, and the computer shows nothing. Again, I find that hard to believe, the car has OBD II in it and the computer tracks about everything that happens, espicially when the car has problems (ie. stalls). I thinkt they''re just trying to ride out the warranty period so they don''t run into costly repairs for the dealership. Other then that the stereo is great, although it is slow when loading CDs and when you shut the car off it doesn''t remember where it left off. It will remember the track, but not the location on the track, kind of annoying but very tolerable. The car is a little sluggish, but if you learn to power shift well with the stick, it can be quite peppy (taken on many small 4 Cylinder cars before and it does well). Oh No Tach, bad for good shift points. Not the best gas m Similar Products Used: Nissan Altima |

Lanos
Strength:
Nimble and roomy for its size. Good gaz mileage. Excelent sticker price. Good job from Ital design. Many possible improvements for someone who wants to make that car a street demon.
Weakness:
No Tachometer. You will have to instal one. Only few after market performance parts. Will need a more powerful engine for those who like Hp. Not able to lock the driver''s door from the inside, or open the trunk without the key. But all those weaknesses are only there because I did not want to pay more for a car. It is an inexpensive car, and that is the bottom line. But what you get for that price is plaintyful. You get a nice looking little car. Handle just fine. the p/s is quick, but it seams weebly at higher speed. The engine is a bit slugish at low rpm, until you get to 5000rpm, then you can feel it. The gaz mileage is totally acceptable. The finish is as good as my last 1998 Subaru. Similar Products Used: None |

Fairly cheap, especially for a car with a four speed automatic.
Weakness:
You cannot drive them. The rims bend and the cars fall apart. Service is very difficult to come by too. NEVER BUY A DAEWOO OR ANYTHING FROM BARBER FORD. I literally made myself a bumper sticker that reads exactly like that sentence! I purchased a Lanos 11 months ago. It has been in for sevice 8 times only 4 of which were overnight jobs. Here comes the bad part. The Rims on a Lanos bend if you drive on them! I am not kidding. I replaced 4 rims on my lanos already, and I currently have three rims that need replacing. I am a very good driver, but one simply cannot drive a lanos without the rims bending. I have spoken to two other lanos owners who have said the same thing. I cannot beleive there has not been a recall or class-action lawsuit against daewoo. Oh, by the way, the rims ARE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY; neither are the tires if they go do to a bad rim. If anyone else has noticed this or solved this problem, please post a reveiw. Similar Products Used: 1990 Ford Tempo. 1988 Chevy Cavalier. Fortune Cookie. All more sturdy and reliable. |
