Strength:
Looks, Roominess, Easy viewing of instrument panel, Good use of space for all controls, huge trunk
Weakness:
lack of some power when climbing steep grades, Braking tends to grab just before coming to a complete stop. If you have tilt steering in the lowest position you cannot see the instrument panel gauges very well. This car is nice and roomy but the 2.7 litre V-6 lacks power up hills. Transmission slips a little at low speeds when slowing down on a sharp curve and then speeding up again. Similar Products Used: 1991 Mercury Sable 1992 Ford Taurus |

Weakness:
Road noise, especially by driver side. But it's not too bad, just a little. Bought my Intrepid about 1 month ago. Haven't had any problems. So far, the car is totally problem free. Very powerfull, comfortable and good looking. I got a very good deal and it's only have 75k on it. Similar Products Used: Mazda 629. Less powerful and lot less room. |

Intrepid 2.7L V6
Strength:
Sharp looking That is all
Weakness:
-A/C works when it wants to -Heat works when it wants to -Battery in bad location -Weatherstripping falls off -Keyless remote doesn't work for crap -All parts very expensive brakes etc. -Can't see out rear window -Engine -Engine -Engine $3,000 used!!! from what I heard the life expectancy is between 50,000-60,000 miles they should recall these 2.7L engines When I first got the car it was a good car, SO I THOUGHT. It ran good looked very sharp and drove nice. Other than looks and a comfortable ride there isn't much else, NO NOTHING else to say about it that is good!!! First the battery went on me so I bought a new one and put it in I didn't realize at the time I had to take the guard off on the inner wheelwell and then jack the car up so I could pull the battery out from underneath the car. Next the A/C only works when it wants to in the summer time and in the winter the heat works when it wants to kind of a pain. The weather stripping around the doors is falling down and for the keyless remote entry, you almost have to get so close that you might as well use your key to unlock the door anyway. The brakes are terriable I took them to be fixed and I needed pads rotors and callipers the whole shot $800 for rear $600 for front. If you are 5'5 or under you can not see out of the rear window, I am 5'8 and I can't hardley see out ouf it. It has been sitting for a month now because I was going down the highway and all of a sudden it lost power so I pulled over to the side of the road and shut it off. Had it towed to a shop It threw a rod right through the block. Never had a warning even after it happened the engine light never came on and the oil light never came on. So It is the most expensive paperweight I have ever bought and still owe $5,000 on it. The other kicker is the 2.7L for a used one is minimum $3,000 NOT INSTALLED. You can't buy a remanufactured one. Dodge is not helpfull at all. Anyway in closing I just wanted to say to Dodge YOU SUCK!!!!! P.S. If anyone has any info on recalls or anything else on this engine please let me know!!! Dodge Intrepid
Strength:
Roomy interior, good handling, reliable, nice styling.
Weakness:
Brakes could be better. Excellent value for the money. Have had the car virtually trouble free until recently. Confort and great handling conbined with an adequate 3.3 liter engine provide for a great touring vehicle. I have had my Intrepid for 3 years and racked up 130,000 miles. Check list: 4 rotors and pads 2x's plus regular maintenece. Recently, though the car has developed a starting problem that 2 delearships have been unable to figure out. It seems that the battery will drain, once the vehicle is jump started and the car ia allowed to idle for five minutes or so the car can be restatred no problem. Absolutly beautiful! Lots of room, jsut enough power, but not too much (to get me in trouble). What else can i say... PERFECT!
Weakness:
Hard to find older modles. Once people get these cars and take care of them), they aren't going to get rid of it! Although I have not owned this car lnog, it is wonderful! My father has owned his intrepid for 4 years, and had nothing but good things to say about it. That is why I wanted to get one. It is a beautiful car. Looks and feels much more expensive than it really is. The intrepid is a wonderful car and I would recomend it to anyone that would listen to me! Similar Products Used: Nothing ever made like it! |

Strength:
Roomy, powerful, looks nice
Weakness:
Constant mechanical problems and small irritating noises! Didn't want such a big car, but my husband thought it would be safe. It feels like driving a boat down the street. We noticed a ticking noise in the engine just a few days after purchasing it. The dealers mechanic who inspected it said he couldn't hear anything. This was an obvious lie as the noise was very loud and has NEVER stopped in the 7 years that I've owned it. Luckily, it never has been a problem, besides driving us crazy. There has been several re-calls on it, which always worried me. Even though we bought it new, it seemed to be in a previous accident as the drivers door and the lines of the car didn't match up, and it has leaked on several occasions through the windows. This last year there has been lots of rattling noises in the dash that wont go away. The radio stops working sometimes, for no apparent reason, and now we are having shifting problems; one mechanic says we need a new transmission, another say's it's just a linkage problem and can easily be fixed. The back seat is roomy, and everyone loves that, big trunk, and though we're always getting lots of problems fixed, it's never stranded us or broken down completely. I wont buy another one, nor would i recommend it to anyone. But I've owned other cars that were worse. One friend owns an Intrepid and loves hers, another friend owns one and absolutely HATES it. Mine? I think it's mediocre. Similar Products Used: Honda Accord, Toyota Corola, |

Intrepid Sport 3.5L
Strength:
Roomy, lots of power. Good handling for a large car. Excellent mileage when on the highway.
Weakness:
Poor mileage in the city. Expensive to fix water pump and timing belt. Frequent front end problems. Poor service at Abbotsford Chrysler Dealership. Overall good vehicle. Purchased the car with 79,000kms on the odometer. The 3.5 appears to be an excellent engine. Jury still out on transmission although I enjoy the AutoStick feature. Would recommend as a family vehicle new or used if a mechanical history was available. Would not buy or deal with local Dodge/Chrysler ever again. Similar Products Used: Chev Impala, Ford Taurus |

Dodge Intrepid
Strength:
Power, when it ran correctly, comfort, sound system, and styling.
Weakness:
Engine, engine, engine. If you''re considering ANY of Dodge''s products which sport the 2.7 litre V6 engine, please buy something else! I have a 1998 Intrepid with said engine needing a rebuild with only 92K miles on it, which by today''s standards is NOT, I repeat NOT, considered high mileage. That was considered high mileage in the 70''s and earlier when referring to engine durablility. This engine failed very rapidly (within a 3 month period). I have faithfully changed the the engine oil as prescribed by Dodge and always ensured the oil level was within acceptable limits between changes. Additionally, I''ve been paying attention as I''ve been out and about driving and have noticed a lot of 1998 and newer Dodge automobiles which use this particular engine blowing blue smoke out the tailpipes as the observed automobile accelerates from stoplights and intersections. I believe Dodge is in trouble with this one and I''m not sure they know it yet. I''m from this day forth strictly a Honda customer while my Intrepid sits in the driveway rotting as I pay a car payment and full coverage insurance on it for 3 more years. Wake up, Chrysler Corp! Cheers! |
