Styling, comfort, fuel economy.

Weakness:

Transmission, transmission, transmission.

Purchased vehicle new and declined the extended warranty (mistake). Initially, very pleased with the car. Few, minor repairs for the first 70,000 miles and it looked great. Since then, the driver''s side power window motor has been replaced and it has been in the shop 3 times for transmission problems. Currently, for seven days straight. Mechanic has replaced the computer, and trans. still not working right. Probably looking at a total re-build of the transmission after only 88,000 miles. Meanwhile, I bought a Nissan and I will sell the Intrepid as soon as it is out of the shop. Never had any brake problems, though, and the fuel economy was good for a large, 4-door.

LOOKS, MECHANICAL, RIDE, PERFORMENCE AND JUST A CAR TO BE PROUD OF..

Weakness:

JUST THE BACK SEAT BEING SO LOW AND THE REAR WINDOWS THAT OPEN ONLY HALF THE WAY MAKING IT A QUEEZY RIDE IF SHORT

WE BOUGHT THIS CAR USED AFTER OWNING ITS SISTER, THE EAGLE VISION.. (NO WAY SIMILAR IN PERFORMENCE).IT IS SILVER LIKE THE VISION.. BUT IT IS WONDERFUL. I LOVE MY CAR. ITS COMFORTABLE, ROOMY, SLEEK, STYLISH AND I THINK IT ALWAYS LOOKS MODERN AND UP TO DATE.. WE GET GOOD GAS MILEAGE AND HAVEN"T HAD ANY MECHANICAL PROBLEMS YET. THE ONLY WEKNESSES IN MY OPPINION ARE THE BACK SEATS ARE TOO LOW AND BACK THERE PEOPLE TEND TO GET MOTION SICK IF THEY AR E BELOW 5''7.

Strength:

gas mileage I have gone 485 miles on 1 tank which is good considering the car weighs 50 tons.

Weakness:

Customer Service ( lack of ) Suspensions transmission airconditioning leaks ( all chrysler products) Paint Rusting Window guides (should be a damn recall) Interior is fragile Turning radius sucks. Passing gear is weak Emission sensors drive shafts The vehicles look nice on the lot but end up being junk. Everytime there is a new model out you think they would have fixed their problems but they haven''t and wont and will most likely go bankrupt. I hope.

My 1999 Intrepid is garbage. It should be illegal to sell them. The car now has about 45,000 miles on it. The paint is falling off of the front. The airvents inside are falling apart. The carpet is wearing through. My Windows and locks occasionally work. The clutch sensor switch went bad. The rotors are completely gone. The driver side window broke and Dodge wont fix it. They actually put a glass guide on the glass window instead of rubber. Of course it will break in the cold or over a bump. 495 bucks. The wheels are rusted. Transmission hoses went bad and leaked all over my garage. The oilpan gasket cracked and leaked oil everywhere. All of these things in just 2 years. Pathetic! I will never by dodge, chrysler or plymouth products again and will ensure that no one that I know will either. This isn''t the fist dodge that has been a problem. 1994 ES intrepid. Transmission replaced 2 times and worked on 7 times. 97 Dodge Ram Transmission replaced ( out of pocket $2,974 dollars)

Looks good!!

Weakness:

Doesn''t run! Extremely poor customer service.

My Intrepid has 36,800 mi and is at the dealership under warranty. They are not honoring the work because they say it was not maintained properly and there is sludge in the engine. They have service receipts for the car. They want to charge me 14,500 to replace motor. Chrysler has done nothing. I will not pay 14,500 for a car worth less than that. I would not recommend Intrepid or any other Chrysler product if this is how they support their service contracts.

Dodge sucks! Our beautiful silver Intrepid is sitting at the dealership, where it has been for about 2 months now. The engine is gone and will cost about $4,000 to replace. While driving the car to work one day, it started making a loud noice and it shut down. My husband had it towed to a mechanic who later told us that the engine was gone and that he found sludge and metal shavings in the oil. We had had an oil change two days before and yet Dodge is telling us it happened because we didn''t properly maintain the car. We took excellent care of the car! Nothing like trying to pass the buck. Our car looks like brand new and only has 40,000 miles on it. I have heard that there is a class action suit against Dodge due to premature engine failure due to sludge. Has anyone heard about that?

Strength:

Size and fuel economy! Handling in curves at high speeds!!! Overall handling is excellent for a sport type car under $30,000. All this and not a rice burner!

Weakness:

Engine....need 3.5 v-6 for sure! Interior color selection....dark gray, ugh! Taken a little time to become use to the no bumper front and rear feeling. Parking at first was a pain! But this is the price you pay for style!

Dodge 2001 Motorsports Edition Intrepid, 2.7 v-6 automatic transmission. The 3.5 v-6 would have been better for preformance since it is a special edition car. The 2.7 gives good fuel economy, had a vibration problem in the engine when first purchased during cold start ups, but started using Mobil-1 and the problem hasn''t returned! Taken back to dealer once during early stages of purchase, water leak in front passengers floor area, front cowl leak, rubber seal shy from factory. Left front sub speaker replaced, rattled very bad! Since then no problems! Paint is flash red and excellent, best I have seen on a production paint job. Fit and finish also pleased me since these details are an important factor in purchasing any car. Motorsport 17" wheels and Goodyear raised yellow letter tires make this car hug the road. Very little over steer at high speeds in sharp curves, not a corvette but real close! The car cruises at highway speeds, and road feel is available, not a town car ride! The Intrepid has style, preformance and good fuel mileage and isn''t a sub compact that one needs a can opener to enter and exit vehicle!

Strength:

nice handling, acceleration, styling

Weakness:

uphill acceleration is poor, improve sealings to reduce wind noise

Nice car so far. I like the sound of the roaring 2.7litre engine. Couple of times I would turn off the radio and just drive in silence! But then again, the wind noise is a bit inferior compared to Japanese car. Great handling in high speed and acceleration is good, not great. Uphill acceleration is poor(40 m/hr and up) due to poor sensitivity on transmission shift. May wanna consider shifting gear to 3 to boost up the rpm to get the HP. I guess it is so because of fuel savings. But that also leads to lack in power. On flat road.....its great! I intend to take good care of it and hopefully, problems dun come my way. Its my first intrepid!! Comparing with other cars, Ford focus have a better shift in transmission to accomodate power needed but lack in acceleration (intrepid is better) Toyota avalone and chverolet impala has poor suspension. Dodge is stiffer and has better road holding. I still think that japs have good transmission design but intrepid has great styling and stability(at higher speed) that u cannot find on japanese car. If the two would combine, it would be great!!

First of all I would like to say I have always liked the looks of the Intrepid. I''ve had 3 friends that own one and love it. I usually lease and I decided I would buy this time because I want to keep the car for several years. I read Consumers Reports and they recommend the Intrepid so I test drove one and liked it so I bought it. Well I bought it on December 27th and so far the things I don''t like are my door squeaks when I open it, I don''t like the cab forward design of the hood because I can''t see it and that makes it hard to park, the 12 volt plug for my cell phone is too close to the shifter, my tires always look flat, its hard to get in and out because of the design of the doors, cd player skips, engine makes funny noise when I first take off, etc..... The worst thing is my check engine light came on last week and I took it to the dealer and of course they said nothing is wrong with it. Well yesterday the light went back on again and I''m taking the car in again tomorrow. I know several people who have had check engine lights come on and they told me once they come on it will probably be an ongoing problem. I sure hope not. After reading these reviews I''m really nervous that my car is going to be a Lemon. If so I will sell it back to the dealer before the warranty is up.

Strength:

Beautiful design. Great engine. 3.5L 24-valve in longitudinal placement is genius. Comfortable and pleasant on the road.

Weakness:

6mm water pump bolts should have been 8''s, or more of them, either way. A/C compressor died young.

Car runs well, is fast (relatively) and comfortable. I am in love with this car''s face. It looks like a Viper to me. I have had some prroblems with the water pump. First one went at 36K, under warantee. Second one I was on my own... took me five hours, then had trouble with the pulley rubbing on the cover, had to remove the cover and spacer it out for clearance. Third one, I had it down to two hours, and I got the right pump this time, with the thinner pulley face. I put a new timing belt on each time I went in, but the dealer did not on the original warantee work. Problem is the smallish 6mm bolts that hold the pump in. All the tension from the timing belt pulling on a 6mm bolt? Good engineering there Dodge! The heads were literally popping off the bolts from the stress. I currently have a grade 8 bolt in place, with no problems thus far. Car now at 136K and running like a scalded rat. Someone mentioned problems with Bosch Platinums (?)... I''m running them, better starts, better mileage, no trouble.
